Kenny and Lionel Ritchie were great friends. Lionel actually penned a few songs for Kenny. Kenny was a massive legend, and his catalog is immense. Lucille and Ruby are two of my favorites.

Live from 1980, but then in 2013 with Lionel Richie, who wrote and produced 'Lady'! Kenny tells the audience the story of how 'Lady' was written and then asks Lionel to come on stage and sing it with him! They were the best of friends right up to Kenny's passing in 2020.

Kenny Rogers taught a lot of us many life lessons through his music. He is greatly missed. Other songs of his that are really good include "Lucille", "Ruby", "The Gambler" (which he's most known for), "Islands In The Stream", and "Love Will Turn You Around". These are just the list I can think of immediately. I'm sure others can expand on it. "Planet Texas" is fun and comedic, as well. Hardy's "Wait In The Truck" seems to be the only other one I can think of that tackles the similar topic.

I think this is a great song because the music keeps you grounded to the song and you can move with the beat throughout the entire story even when it takes you to a dark place. It a morality tale people can enjoy and really think about at the same time. I don’t know another song you can compare it to or another artist who has tried to sing it.

Kenny Rogers is a Great Entertainer..... Kenny made a TV Movie based on his song "Coward of the County" Kenny made 5 TV Movies inspired by his song "The Gambler"..... Kenny was also in a Movie "Six Pack" which used his song "Love will Turn You Around" as the theme song......

I always thought this song was supposed to take place in the old American West, maybe in the 1800's and that Tommy was 18 or 19 years old. It actually took place during WWII and Tommy was a 30 year old town preacher. He declared to be a pacifist objector to avoid serving in the military. The Gatlin brothers who all served took offense to it and then did what they did after their return from the war.

@liberty belle reacts - The difference between country music and other genres is country is more about story telling - if you listen to the lyrics theres usually a story to be told. And contrary to popular belief, country isnt always about "a tear in my beer". Decades ago, yes, there was a lot more of that but things have changed - you can find happy, upbeat, fun songs just as much as the other. I dont really have any one single "depressing" song in my library.. its all fun and kick a$$.. If you would like some recommendations i can point you to a trove of good ones you probably would have never even thought of lol
