I got a 30 30 over 20ga. 20 ga takes 3” magnums too. Checkered walnut stock with swirly blueing on the receiver. Inherited from my Dad. And his Dad owned a gun shop here in town. So Dad inherited from Grampa. I love it and will someday give it to my son. Shot a lot of partridge and big game with it. My motto when carrying this gun was that the bottom barrel will fill the pot but the top barrel will fill the freezer.

I have Granddad’s Model 24. It hasn’t been out of the safe in years can’t remember if it has a suffix designation. Granddad bought it in the ‘50’s sometime it is .22lr/.410 3”. Nice wood furniture and a color case hardened receiver. I have been in possession of this since around 1964. It still looks as good as when it was new. I have shot countless rabbits, quail, dove with it. I am 75 and in probably not too many years it will go to my grandson.

I just got done stoning the trigger in my 22 hornet/ 12 gauge. After four times of stoning and testing I bet it still breaks at 5 pounds or more but really crisp. Before I started it literally hurt my finger to pull the trigger. I don’t see how these guns are worth anything except for a novelty which explains why they don’t make them anymore. I have plenty of other guns with lighter triggers that’ll be way more accurate for hunting so this gun will probably sit in the closet until somebody pays me twice is what it’s worth.

Gotta start messing with mine again! Think I got my trigger down to under 3.5 pounds…or less. I need to polish the chambers. On my first outing with it I had a12 gauge trap load stuck in the chamber after firing. I had to tap it out the empty hull with a cleaning rod. Figure polishing might help with the release. I also acquired a bunch of 22 hornet brass and tons of hornet specific projectiles to do some accuracy testing.
@SmallCaliberArmsReview4 ай бұрын
Very nice! Except for the stuck hull. Thanks for watching!
@tripplebeards34274 ай бұрын
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview yeah it was the first time shooting the gun when I had stuck hull. Was using cheap 7.5 shot federal trap loads for testing. Didn’t happen again, but I haven’t shot it much or I should say after the test it’s been collecting dust ever since. I figure a good chamber polishing will help release them. It worked in my 223 H&R so I’m guessing it will hopefully fix the issue in the savage. It looked it the brass stuck under the extractor on the 24f.

My Brothers and I had identical Model 24s in .22LR and .410 shotgun, back about 50 years ago. I late refinished the furniture on mine. They were good reliable single-shot guns, but I always craved more gun. This 30:30 and 12 gauge combo would do the trick. They show up every now and then on guns international. Towards the end of the Model 24's run at Savage Arms, they put the shotgun barrel on top and the rifle barrel below, which I think is a better arrangement. The other issue with most combination guns is that it is hard when using open sights to shoot accurately with both barrels. Either you dial in the rifle barrel or the shotgun barrel, but seldom both. There's a term for that property but I can't remember its name.
