The slight upwards pressure on the barrel will put you a little high. Try it with the stock rested instead of the barrel. Nice looking rifle for a beginner. Congratulations Pappy

Thank you for this review. I am searching for my 10 year old son’s first gun... and mine. We will learn together. He would be the primary reason for the purchase, so my decision is set on a youth bolt action. Great demo and information. Buffalo Outdoors reported in 2015 about 70% reliability out of the box due to what he concluded was a poor “Squared” hammer design. After narrowing it down on his own it, he reports 100% reliability. I am curious to hear if this is still a problem in 2020? Obviously I am not going to work on a gun with no experience and would prefer to make a purchase that does not need to back to the factory out of the box.

I bought myself one. I got the target model. The barrel is heavier but it is threaded. I bought a scope mount and used 1/2 of it and mounted a pistol red dot on it. No more varmints in my yard. 😉

Do you know how the CB Longs compare to the Hummingbird and Super Hummingbird? I have heard of people using the CBs for small game. I believe that they are still more powerful than a pellet gun.

I do not know. The manufacturers usually have ballistic charts on their websites for the rounds they make. I don't know if I'd want to try small game hunting with the CB rounds, they usually only have the primer that propels the bullet.

Just something I was told once and maybe with a 22 it's not important . I was told never rest your barrel on anything when you shoot .it would change the whole effect of a free floated barrel . What are your thoughts on this ?BTW congrats on your grandchild !

That is correct, even the slightest amount of pressure can have an effect on the point of impact. This little rifle weighs pretty much nothing so the deflection was minimal and I'm pretty sure the difference in the point of impact from resting it on the rest like I did, couldn't be measured with an electron microscope at the distance I was shooting. Longer distances and heavier firearms would definitely suffer more. Thanks for the compliment.

How far away was your target?

From the front of the Saloon to the back targets, is 15 yards. When I shoot from the rest, I add another 3 yards. The last shot I took with the CCI quiet, was standing in front of the saloon, so you could deduct about 1.5 yards from it. Thanks for watching.

So my daughter has this and we took it out yesterday and after about 50-ish rounds the casings started to get stuck after she would shoot. We had to use our finernails to pull it down and out. What would cause that to happen?

Hmmm. You might want to try cleaning it and see if that helps at all. I've seen it happen with older rifles that have badly pitted chambers but usually with a new gun, and especially after only 50 rounds they should still extract fine.

Yeah we are cleaning all of them this week. It was brand new so it should have been cleaned before we hit the range but the husband thought it would be fine.

@@victoriareyes5748 you'd be suprised at how dirty some of them are from the factory. At a minimum, you should run a boresnake or a cleaning patch through the barrel to make sure there are no obstructions before you fire any of them. Even a partially obstructed bore can cause problems. Give it a good cleaning especially in the chamber area, run some clean dry patches through it and see if it helps. Be safe and have fun!

What would be a good scope for this rifle

Wow, there are so many choices but I would probably stick with an inexpensive, compact, fixed magnification scope. Something like a 4x32 would be pretty good for a new shooter. With a fixed power scope you don't need to worry about parallax. I have several Caldwell and Blackhawk brand bipods on my rifles and they seem to work fine. You need to find one that will work on the swivel stud on the fore end. Be careful with the ones that have external springs, they can pinch little fingers. I know this because they can pinch big fingers too!
