Would LOVE to see more MMZ covers. The YM2612 could really do some justice to songs that the GBA couldn't
@MastaGambit4 жыл бұрын
I don't like advertising myself on someone else's videos, but I've actually started covering some MMZ tracks using instruments from Sonic 3, over on my SoundCloud. (profile name is same as my KZbin name). Of course it ain't much compared to what Gecko/SR can pump out, but it's something. :'D

I keep coming back to this, easily one of the best YM2612 - SN76489 engineered compositions. Your mastery of the chips and their quirks are a sight to behold. I love how your covers even use limited size samples for the PCM and don't go overboard like some people do, such as the fantastic Better Off Alone cover which uses high quality PCM samples the system could handle, but would never have appeared due to the sheer size of the file. There's a noticeable crunch to your drum and base samples I appreciate for the authenticity. Outstanding work. I would LOVE to see what you'd be capable of manipulating the YMF292 chip into producing within the confines of a 512kb ram pool.

This whole arrangement is solid gold, natch, but I’m particularly impressed with your recreation of the little synth loop at the beginning; it’s damn near spot-on to the original sample (which is itself one of my favourite well-rinsed sample pack loops). Good show, SR~ ✌️

What sample library does it come from?

GravianS If I remember right, it comes from Methods of Mayhem: Industrial Toolkit (which is *very* widely used in VGM).

@@DeconTheed92 Hm... I might have to look into it then. Seems the Prodigy made some use of it, too. Not surprising. I've found a whole bunch of samples from different games in the old Datafile CDs, not to mention all the rave stabs and other dance noises from all over the place.
