As a 17’ XSE V6 owner, better tires go a long way to helping put the power down. My car just has a CAI and borla catback, and Pilot sport A/S 3+’s help out so much. Also the V6 has some strong acceleration from 50 and 60 mph. Passing power on a two lane road is very nice.

I know this is a super late response but I’ll tell you if you’re still interested. I’m currently driving a 2020 Camry se 4 cyl loaned from the dealership while my scion is being repainted under a factory recall and I gotta say, it’s pretty nice for a daily driver. The power just isn’t quite there, you really can’t even break the tires loose and it’s not going to slam you into the seat. But, if you’re just looking for a fun daily driver, it’s more than enough. The updated 2020 interior is great and the entertainment system with carplay and android auto is really nice. Hope this helped!
@tonymagona3344 жыл бұрын
@@carsonwarner3797 Since you're driving the SE and I'm considering getting the 2021 XSE 4-cyl when it comes out.. could you tell me what RPM speeds you're getting at different highway speeds? I found a really specific video someone posted on their V6 XSE going from 55 to 80 in 5mph increments to show what the engine is doing, and I was hoping to compare that to the 4-cyl. Basically his V6 was going 1,600RPM at 70mph and 1,800RPM at 80mph, which is pretty good considering my current car (2018 Corolla SE) does nearly 2,100RPM at 75mph. What kind of gas mileage are you getting too? I'm eager to get the Camry next month or whenever the 2021 is available, but I'm deciding between the 4-cyl and V6 and I'm trying to justify the nearly $5,000 increase for the V6.
@carsonwarner37974 жыл бұрын
tonymagona334 yeah man happy to help! I found that the gas mileage was pretty accurate to what it’s rated. I would get probably 29 or 30 in the city and around 40 on the highway. And as far as the rpm it’s was really amazing it was hardly over 2000 at 80mph! Total cruiser 😍 but if you want to get put back in your seat I say get the v6. The 4 is awesome, it’s enough to satisfy anyone as a daily driver, but nothing exceptional. If you want great performance and impressive gas mileage I say get that v6!
@tonymagona3344 жыл бұрын
@@carsonwarner3797 Thanks for that, it really was something I was wondering! Man 40mpg on the highway sounds like a dream 😄 but better is the engine not going over 2k even at 80, that's awesome! I'll probably stick with the 4cyl for the better gas mileage and also cause the V6 would be nearly $5,000 more. That 4cyl is gonna be great when I take trips from Miami to Tampa!

Very nice review. I have to interject and say that when put in sport mode, the steering stiffens up significantly and of course higher RPM shifts. I'm getting the 2019 XSE with the 2.5L Four but it's good to hear pros and genuine cons on the new Camrys. It is tempting to go with the 3.5L Six but the Four's gas mileage and initial cost are important to me while the power is more than adequate for my purposes. Again, this was a special review, thanks!

Well I was going to get the XSE but went with the 2019 SE with the 2.5L Four. Just couldn't justify an extra $4000 when the SE has all I need plus its 18" wheels have a softer ride than 19" on the XSE. What a great car it's turned out to be.

So as a "sports car guy" for the past 20 years (MX-5, SE-R, CRX, S2000) I ended up changing my focus and buying a 2017 Camry SE 4-cylinder ... retired rental car with 12,000 miles ... for $16K. My first automatic transmission (sad panda). This thing will probably outlive me. The suspension was much tighter than expected, very little body roll, and I did a back-to-back against an Accord and felt no difference, except the Camry was much cheaper. Toyota intentionally keeps it old school with the infotainment, switches and engine/transmission to avoid the reliability problems their competitors are having with the new tech to meet EPA targets. And I know if I get the itch for something sportier again that engages my right hand and left foot, I can easily sell this thing in a day on craigslist.

Gerard ... my previous car was a 2006 Mazda 6 manual with Racing Beat suspension. A low-speed accident clipped the front bumper support, bent the engine cradle frame and totaled it. I've had four Mazdas in my life but decided to try another brand ... the new Mazda 6 my knees bump the steering column, and after dealing with long-term Mazda maintenance quirks (idiotic PVC valve placement, buried suspension components) I wanted to avoid those headaches. In honesty, the 2017 Camry SE stock suspension feels eerily as firm as my Mazda 6's Racing Beat kit. I can't wait for the horrid all-season Bridgestones to wear out so I can put some decent summer rubber on there (Texas).

@BrendanMacWade6 жыл бұрын
This really kills the argument for the Lexus ES. Yeah, I know that's Lexus' best seller. But this is the first Camry V6 that has a really good exhaust note. And at $38K, it's priced just a little lower than the Lexus. Me, I will get the RAV4 with the new 2.5L motor that makes the new Camry more fuel efficient than ever before.

Brendan A. MacWade but the Lexus IS rwd which I prefer than fwd. I wish the Camry was rwd
@Toyota4Life6 жыл бұрын
Brendan A. MacWade this kills the argument for ALOT of luxury sedans. Not just the ES. Also the new ES is sure it have a WAY higher quality interior and more refined driving experience then this Camry. More tech and more luxury also. The Camry won't compare period.
@oldtwinsna83476 жыл бұрын
I'd choose the old ES over this any day. The ES is much quieter riding and premium feel to it. Slower, but who cares, neither one is the right choice if you want to be smoking it.

I don't know what camera and what lighting trickery you have going on but in the Final Thoughts segment you somehow figure out a way to stand in front of a television without looking washed out and not freaking out the camera with the brightness of the TV. How do you even achieve this and how long did it take to get it just right? The sheer amount of quality that your videos have for even small things people don't really notice is ridiculously good.
@MattLassota6 жыл бұрын
Do you ever see the Accord bringing the V6 back? I loved my old 2000 Accord v6 and i was in the market for a new one but now they've gone to Turbo 4 crap and I'm not sure about long term reliability what is your take on this? I'm a Pilot and for instance any naturally aspirated engine has an overhaul time of around 2500 hours when on the flip side a force induction airplane engine has an overhaul time of about 1800 hours, so there is no way that car engines can last as long with forced induction or can they?? More pressure = more wear.

@@trp2413 Honda had as much as 120 hp/liter in the late 90's that have proven to be reliable and long lasting (S2000). I'd be more worried about the turbo itself. And Honda's CVT fluid actually costs around $10/quart and needs to be serviced every 60,000 miles. Though I also still don't like CVTs.

savagegeese I have a request. Can you also review the usability of the adaptive cruise control and lane steering assist? As much as I love spirited driving, most of my trips involve mundane driving. The new Corolla Hatchback has really great standard features for commuting. It would be nice to see those features reviewed from an everyday driving perspective. Thanks!
@FrenchValleyAirport6 жыл бұрын
I've used these features on the 2018 Camry and I can tell you at least from my perspective the most useful is the adaptive cruise control, the lane keep assist will keep you in your lane but you cannot rely on it for a full hands off experience. it will just bounce you off either side of the lane indefinitely, it cannot keep you centered.

One car you should really consider reviewing is the 2006 Camry SE V6. It isn't a sports car, but it was Toyota's attempt at building a sportier Camry, with stiffer suspension, 17" wheels, and a 3.3L DOHC V6 with 210 hp...the same V6 that went into the Sienna except the Sienna engine was rated at 240 hp. I bought this car when the re-designed 2007's came out, and was able to get it out the door around $26K. It is fast (I have been able to time it 0-60 in 5.6 seconds), fun (as fun as a Camry can be) but best of all, after 12 years and 140K later, other than a minor power steering leak I had to have repaired a couple of months back, it has never had one mechanical issue. Over the years I have abused it, driven it back and forth between the Northern Cal Bay area and Southern Cal, tracked it in the Mojave desert, and used it as my day to day driver. Besides the 2018 Camry, in my opinion it is one of the best and most overlooked V6 Camry

He's right it's not going to make the Earth spin backwards but for the "camry midsize car buyer" to them this will feel like the world is on fire stepping up from the 4 cylinder. I've been driving econo shit boxes my whole life I come from a toyota family of 4 cylinders only, when I drove the V6 variants they had a significant amount of thrust compared to the 4 poppers. I drive a Stinger GT2 now but for what it is and under 6 second to 60 acceleration I can respect it objectively

The Mazda 6 looks good, no doubt. But their turbo engines are notorious for burning oil. If you’re leasing or planning to sell within 5 years then the Mazda 6/Accord is good. If not, go naturally aspirated, Camry .
