Add to that the excellent refinement in the interior, usable tech and luxury features that are relevant to how I use a vehicle and I am thrilled with it. Really wish they provided reviewers with 2 different cars, their "preferred" option package and a base model. It's getting pretty obvious that manufacturers are trying to hide behind the MSRP of phantom launches at a low price. Have been trying to find a first suv for my mother and it's been a total chore. Either reviews don't match the product we're seeing or things are wildly more expensive than we're being told It's not because of the market either, it's because base models don't exist or ship to dealers 1 in 20.
@karanpatel78152 жыл бұрын
It's more of a supply chain issue. Before dealers would have 1,000s of cars at their lot, giving people alot of options at reasonable prices. Now that the supply of cars gone down, dealers are gouging prices on all models. If I were you, I'd buy a used car from an independent buyer. Just be sure to get a mechanic to check it out before you buy.
@bigcjm2 жыл бұрын
So here is the thing. Base model vehicles are incredibly low margin products. So if they have a choice to order something with almost no margin or something that would sell with twice the margin they'll order those. Also the folks who provide the cars for reviews are out to give the best impression which is why you see these folks reviewing totally maxed versions. If you're car shopping for the most amount of options to choose from you always want to be in thier middle trim.
@joeamith8382 жыл бұрын
Your so right!!! you see these reviews you think that's awesome because the car has every option but in reality the version most of us can afford is nothing like the reviewed car!
@JS-sy8mo2 жыл бұрын
I'll also add that the differences between top trim and lower or lowest trims arent always on the spec sheets either, so even more reason I'd want a reviewer who knows their stuff to point things out. For instance, Mark says this jeep is really quiet, but does the base model have the same amount/quality of sound deadening material?? Small stuff like that is literally impossible to find out without someone (such as a reviewer) having access to two cars at once.

I took delivery of my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve V8 2 weeks ago (1/12/22) and have been very impressed. I do agree with your analysis of the McIntosh Audi system being off (too bass heavy and lacking audio detail). Where I disagree with your analysis is what type of buyer the upper-level trims attract. I’ve owned Mercedes, BMWs, Audis and most recently a Porsche Macan S. You can’t get a decently equipped base version of any of those for what you can get a fully loaded 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve ($71,515). I was very impressed with the features, quality and look of the new Summit Reserve trim, but what have easily looked away at the Limited or other models before buying another German. Night vision, massaging seats, quilted leather, 4 heated and cooled seats, passenger screens and pano roofs are all things you pay a premium for, but less than the competition. It’s these “silly” features that made me notice this new Jeep and the reason I bought my first MOPAR vehicle. Cudos to Jeep!

Great Video. As an owner of many FCA vehicles, they used to hit a sweet spot between price, value, & performance. Sadly they have been slow increasing prices on all their vehicles to where I have started looking at other manufacturers. A top of the line Rubicon used to be had for $45K. Now you are over $60K. A well option Grand Cherokee was $50K. Now it's over $60K for a comparable model. They have added more features which is welcomed, but they have added significant costs to get them now. Not a fan of the nickle and dime thing they are doing lately.

The only option it didn't have was the rear seat entertainment, it stickered for 43,000 dollars, I got it for 10,000 dollars with 90k miles It has the *quadratrac 2 awd system that has FRONT and rear mechanical limited slip diffs, a 2 speed transfer case thats a 50/50 to 40/60 split front/rear,* and of course a 5.7 hemi, that doesn't have VVT. It also has underbody protection for the whole front area and gas tank. It could tow 7200lbs but I've never towed with it, but since it has the hemi it came factory with an XL engine cooler and a transmission cooler. *The sound system isnt great, its mid 2000's bose.* The cargo space in it sucks, the back seat is TINY and it eats gas, like 13-15 mpg eats gas, but that's what its rated for anyways so I can't complain. I have also lifted it 2 inches, put 32 inch general grabber at2's on it (stock was 29 inch all seasons) and its high enough off the ground that I can comfortably crawl under it for oil changes without a lift. It drives comfortably through 6-7 inches of snow, but the diff in the solid rear axle is 9.5 inches off the ground so I haven't really pushed past 7 inches because once you're dragging in the snow you're done. I believe under the rest of the body is about 13-14 inches of ground clearance though. It's driven through about 10 inches of standing water, its water fording depth from the factory is 21 inches, with the lift and tires its 23-24. I know woodland trails are a breeze for it and even going over downed trees isn't much of an issue. The grand cherokee is a truly one of a kind vehicle, especially in the trailhawk. An overland trim with the offroad package is mechanically identical to the trailhawk, just with a lot more luxuries on the inside. The amount it can tow for its size is insane, its the length of a camry but it can pull 6000lbs in all configs and 7200lbs with the hemi. This is a function over form kind of vehicle, which is why it stands out so much. The luxury top trims aren't anything special because that's not what's special about this vehicle.
@ecocav02222 жыл бұрын
If you're truly getting the mpg rating that it was rated at. With the 2 in lift and bigger tires. Then it's doing very well there for sure. Those two factors can easily take away 3 mpg average out the door.
@james20422 жыл бұрын
@@ecocav0222 it was rated for 13/15/17, after accounting for the tire size difference affecting the computer, I get 13-15. I did a major road trip this summer and actually got closer to 17 on the open highways. The tires aren't wider than the SRT8 tires and there's no spacers. The tires sticking last the fender flares is usually what tanks mpg.

Jeep today is nothing like Jeep in the 90's. In fact, I'd take a 90's Cherokee over one of the modern piles with built-in grenades. Nowadays you pay through the nose for the privilege of getting disappointed constantly with cheap fit and finish, lack of reliability, and cheesiness that you glossed over when emotions were running high. At least back in the good old days, you could see what you were paying for right off the bat.

@@PolishGator yes, autos are complicated now, too many computers, and engines have to comply with EPA. more things to go wrong and also very difficult to wrench on your own vehicle. i've recently owned a string of new vehicles: GMC Sierra, Chevy Equinox, Toyota Tacoma, Honda CRV, and Mercedes Sprinter. I had engine problems with the Honda (oil dilution) and some other minor electrical problems -- electric seats didn't work, some minor glitches, etc. The Toyota had bad welds in the exhaust system and had to be replaced under warranty soon off the lot. The Toyota also had horrible transmission -- the 5 speed on their 3.5 6 cylinder in their Tacomas, horrible experience using it and I didn't care for the engine either. The Mercedes, Chevy, and GMC have been trouble free. The Mercedes Sprinter drives smaller than my pickup, 6 cylinder smooth as butter and I don't even know the transmission is there. GMC best riding vehicle I've ever owned, very smooth for a pickup! The Equinox is peppy with the 2 liter and also strong transmission. Interior on the Chevy Premier tier is also up there. Reading Auto journalism and KZbin comments, all you hear is about Toyota reliability. There's tons of sampling bias there. People who buy Toyotas, buy them for the purpose of keeping them a long time. Where's a MB owner, most likely has a lease. But that's my recent car buying experience. I've tried to do the Toyota, Honda thing but they had problems. At the end of the day, I'll buy what makes me happy and maybe some sort of extended warranty for piece of mind. For as good as Toyotas are suppose to be, I just can't get excited about them. I don't think they are especially desirable in anything. I believe Toyota is resting on their reliability reputation to sell their cars. And for me, I simply wouldn't keep a vehcile for that long if I wasn't having fun with it. I'll still shop with reliability in mind, but not at the top of my list. Look I had problems with my Toyota and Honda, I know it's just me, but I'd say buy what makes me happy. I can't see myself getting into a vehicle for 10-15 years, even if they were trouble free, if I wasn't happy with all the other things.

One negative in FCA’s products interior is the overuse of Bass in the high and low end sound systems. I’ve realized that in my grandmother’s Pacifica Limited with the Harman Kardon system you’d have to turn the bass to negative on some songs which can be an annoyance. I do believe the Beats system has this issue the most but I will say the Harman and B&O systems in the Italian brands Alfa and Maserati are better.

I was really excited about the 4XE model GC. Almost to the point of ordering one when that started. I waited and now they are sitting on lots. The car is too big and heavy to drive with just a 4 cylinder turbo especially around town in traffic when the power runs out. Plus, over time, batteries degrade. What’s that 25 miles going to be three years from now in the cold (which also reduces battery power)? I could see driving into the dealer saying: “I’m only getting 18/19 miles out of it now and the dealer saying: “no problems found.” Forget it. 4XEs will drop like a rock over time….

That is one fantastic review. I own a 2019 GC Limited and just took possession of a new 2024 GC Summit with literally every bell and whistle. I have also owned/leased 2 Mercedes GLE 350's. For what I want in an SUV a new GLE 450 (the new GLE 350 is not an option with a pitiful 255 Hp motor) will cost in the mid $80k, around $85k. The Summit I bought cost $74k but Jeep is running a 10% MSRP discount to bring it down to $66,500. I also negotiated a few grand off that price + tax. With Mercedes you may be able to get $2k to $3k off which brings it to $82k +tax. For almost $20k less it was an easy decision to buy the 2024 Summit that has air suspension, night vision with object warning, semi-autonomous driving (can't get that on an $84k GLE), massaging front seats, 4 zone climate control, ventilated and cooled front seats, a beautiful and super comfortable interior, etc etc etc. I bought it with the V6 which honestly has plenty of power for most customers. The infotainment system is crazy good. I gave my 2019 GC Limited to my daughter. It's been a great vehicle. A couple things to note: The MacIntosh stereo must have been upgraded or tuned differently for 2024 because I actually increased the bass in the equalizer. Also, the center console storage/arm rest has a better release than in the 2022. Not a big deal but worth mentioning. It is just a well built swiss army knife of an SUV.
