I just bought a C300 and I love it. I’ve had BMWs in the past which offer a little more sportiness but not as much luxury as the Mercedes. The interior technology takes a little time getting used to but offers so many options making it fun for the average tech type person. The ride is smooth and quiet. The engine and transmission interaction combined with the mild hybrid work seamlessly. I’ve owned my C300 for about two months and I’m getting about 26mpg in the city and over 34 on the highway. My wife just purchased one. She has had 4 BMW's, I had a couple Audi S4's, this is our first Mercedes. I now drive a Mazda MX-5 ND2, so I appreciate a light nimble sports car. The Mercedes isn't that. What it is is very comfortable and luxurious. It is solid and well-built and just has a quality feel. We made a point to not get the AMG suspension, and the rear steer and adjustable dampers were not available, so MSRP was low 50's with AWD and upgraded sound system. The base suspension is German taught, without play in the steering. It drives smooth and quiet, not detached or boat like. You can place it well, and see out well. Put it in "sport" mode and use the paddle shifters does not turn it into a great sports sedan. In normal mode and normal driving, road trips, and what you use a car for everyday, it is enjoyable to drive because it is so refined. Tech is pretty cool. Important controls are screen or capacitive on the wheel, but always there. And the LED lighting package is so cool, especially at night.

I don't understand MB's push to make a car that will be outdated very quickly based on the interior control layout. One of MB's biggest strengths for decades was the fact their cars aged incredibly well in terms of looks and features over the years. This "Tesla" design that so many manufacturers seen to be integrating into their cars is beyond me. My 2012 C300 (where the number actually reflects the engine displacement) is still solid as a rock with 133k on it, aged very well and has a usable interior. When you said “the most controversial c class” I had to pause and think as to why.. I get it, but hate that people look at it that way. I have a 2021 Volvo XC60 R design. I test drove this new C class when it came out. The C300 I drove had an MSRP several thousand lower than my Volvo. Once you spend a few minutes in the cabin, everything falls to hand (or mind) easily and is far more detailed and cohesive than my Volvo. Once on the road the adaptive suspension impressed me and the MB 9at feels like a dual clutch compared to the spongy 8at in the Volvo. I’ve driven many older Benz products and this thing is a different animal. I walked away very impressed. I love the variety of color options they offer both inside and out. I have driven thousands of miles on both cars in the same locations, sometimes both in one day. I also have serviced both of them by myself, with major maintenance too. More cylinders mean worse weight distribution and speaking about l4 vs v6 both turbo, they give you also A LOT of layout and maintenance headaches. C320 is an absolute pain to maintain because to take off X you need to remove Y, Z, A, B, C, and D before. Also on other hand, C320's front feels much heavier in tight turns even though it has way better tires, sport springs, sway bars, shocks, and sportier wheel alignment than is recommended by the factory. Deffinetly you can install wider fanders to accomodate even wider tires, widen front track, add more camber and so on, but nobody will do it.

It is a great small luxury car. Yes it isn't a sport sedan in the realm of the 3 series or G70, but it isn't as boat like as the ES and more advanced than the old A4. The new M254 2.0L inline 4 is I believe the first I4 turbo with a 48V MHEV system. Every other application thus far is always on a 6cyl motor and cost far more.

You have a point. I have a 2021 ES, and my previous car was a 2017 C300. At the same time, my son in law had a 2016 E class. In my mind, and in driving these cars, it feels like the ES is more akin to the E class. I loved my C300, and would have moved into another, or an E class, but my lease was up at the height of the auto chip shortage, and MB had literally nothing available I would lease. I went to Lexus, only because they had product. I am exceptionally happy with this Lexus, it does almost everything better than the C. I especially like the non turbo V6 at 302 horsepower.
@aprtur Жыл бұрын
@@savagegeese ES and IS both overlap with this, honestly - you can get a fully loaded IS350 for about $55k. So for the dynamic element, the IS is a better choice than the ES. Outdated or not, the IS is the only NA V6, FR sports sedan available on the market (obviously this changes a bit as you go up-market, with a few V8 options)

@@davidcoughenourdavidc9064 I traded my 2015 C300 for a 2022 ES 300h. I wanted something larger, but NOT a SUV and I wanted a hybrid.The C-Class was soon going to get expensive to repair too. I agree that the ES does everything just a little better and the ride is like a magic carpet.

Last night I drove my Q50 through the local MB dealership for fun. While peering at a $60k C-Class a salesperson asked about my interest. We chatted about my current car & how great the lease is. I learned that the C leases for over $900 a month?! I would expect that for an S class, not a $50k 4 banger. My Q has more HP, a perfectly nice interior, AWD, etc. Do people really pay that much to drive the baby Benz? Or is that crappy car market price? I figured $500/mo or so.
@myemailiscool Жыл бұрын
not to be crass but even a base $110k S class will lease at well over $1700 per month most likely. A C-class lease, with tax, for a median model should run you maybe $650-700/month with a minimal down payment. $500/month gets you a GTI these days. Lease money factors are high due to interest rates. Also, cars are just expensive. Infiniti cars are from a bygone era of prices + design.

this starts @56,700 CAD. As a professional business man, I'd have a hard time justifying something like this and not in love with the idea of throwing my money into a luxury product. 6:48 I'd say the B58 alone is worth it. You basically get a four door Supra. That said, the new all-screen dash is so gross. Pre facelift G20 is the way to go.
@aprtur Жыл бұрын
Pre-facelift was pretty fantastic....BMW didn't make it ugly like the rest of the range, and the interior was fairly straightforward. The only Achilles heel that it had was that you didn't get anything standard, and that meant optioning similar to an IS, Q50, or G70 made it severely more expensive. Tradeoffs, at that point, of giving up some features for dynamics. Current model year, the G70 is a pretty phenomenal option, bar the god-awful choice of making customers deal with a Hyundai dealer.
