@@oxysz It's bitter sweet tbh. Check out the C8 A6 owners' reporting issues on Audi-sport.net . One of them had the entire dash replaced. It was under warranty of course. But for a car costing as much as that, one would expect it to not spend that much time in the dealership getting fixed. The payment's still keep getting paid every month but what Audi give you for a "courtesy" car is not an A6, most likely a manual A1 or A3 ! My own C7 A6 developed a rattle one month from new and the dealers could not locate the source. Recently when looking for a long term replacement, I test drove the C8 A6 myself, and in 15 minutes of test drive, the test car developed the popular rattle/squeak. Also, the driver aids stopped working, the dashboard lit up like a festive tree. For me I would personally not go near a VAG product. But fo course, YMMV :-)

I bought a 2023 540i a couple of months ago and hands down it's the best sedan I have ever driven in my 36 years of being a licensed driver in the USA. I've owned a lot of vehicles, some real beaters when I was young and didn't have money, and several different luxury choices in the last 15 years or so when I had money to get what I wanted, and the BMW 540i has beaten them all in terms of performance, luxury, fun, drivability, looks, value, and service. This includes Mercedes, Genesis, and Lexus to name a few, all of which I have owned and ran screaming from eventually. Mercedes because of the terrible performance and painful suspension and road noise, Genesis for the horrific customer service experience (thanks Hyundai, you ruined what could have been a monster of a brand by treating your luxury customers the same as the folks with 500 credit scores buying a turd), and Lexus, which always felt like I had overpaid for what i got, which was an hyper expensive Toyota. BMW mitigated all of these issues for me. I don't think I will ever buy another brand at this point in my life.

@supaahflyy3 жыл бұрын
@Aria are you getting confused with leasing vs borrowing money to pay off the car? What you're describing is borrowing to pay off a car which is still owning a car once you've paid it off. Leasing is just a rental basically. Is the terminology used in the US different to the UK and Aus for example?
@supaahflyy3 жыл бұрын
@Aria I don't know your financial situation so I can't comment. But do your due diligence, if you're saving is $100 a month or $1200 a year and that's the make or break point for you, it really goes back to my first comment. Leasing is a strategy used to get people who can't afford a car, into that very car. Because at the end of the day pay $1200 more a year is piss change considering you get to keep the asset (depreciating asset admittedly) at the end of the term which you can then either keep or sell. There's plenty of videos online by financial experts much better at it than me that illustrate the type of situation where leasing makes sense and long story short, there's very few situations. Only if the person switches cars and wants the newest and most up to date car every 3 years. It's definitely not for people who want to make a financially sound choice. Again, I have no idea of your finances and don't claim to. But it's worthwhile doing your due diligence, it can't hurt

I had one, the 530i, with the 4cyl-engine. At no point did I feel it lacked power. The lack of turbo lag was almost magical. The interior was beautiful with very high quality materials with no rattles or bad panel gaps. The fuel economy reminded me of a 3 Series, which was impressive. Going 85 down the freeway felt like 50. The driver seat was probably the most comfortable seat I have ever been in and all my passengers were always comfortable. It was a heavy car and driving it you could feel it yet the engine and transmission made it drive so well as so smoothly. In the 3-year lease I had it, it only went to the dealer for oil changes and software updates. Never have I been more impressed with a vehicle especially for the price point. I am a big fan of MB, but somehow BMW managed to make everything extremely consistent and near perfect with the 5. I would happily recommend the 5 to anyone looking for a quality, sport-oriented luxury 4DR sedan. To this day I still think about how well the car did everything and the people who designed that car really are at another level.

I had a 530i as a loaner. It's a nice car the way Lexus is nice. Boring to drive, very comfortable. So why not get the Lexus, get the reliability and resale value instead? It costs less, too.
@dailyrant40683 жыл бұрын
Because Lexus are Toyota powertrains which are not even as performance-oriented as the very base models... there is simply no comparison between a "300 hp" Lexus and a "335hp" BMW... they will feel like a 100 hp difference, not 35 any day. Lexus literally has the slowest vehicles out of all the luxury brands, not to mention mostly FWD. And LFA is a super niche product that is simply not mass market.

Because the Lexus is less attractive, the interior and infotainment are less thought out, the ‘new’ Lexus engine options are boring and weak and arguably no more reliable than the B58 engine in this 540i. This is such a great review! One thing I noticed however: this is the first implementation of the B58 mild hybrid system from BMW besides the M440i. The 48V starter-generator motor not only competes with Mercedes M256 straight six, it add 3mpg to both city and highway driving (now 32 highway according to the EPA). For a car that does 0-60 in under 5 seconds, that’s incredibly impressive! While it may not have much of a soul, I actually can advocate for this. As an enthusiast, it’s nice to have that one boring car. A car to cleanse your pallet, that just works, won’t complicate your life, and reminds you when you get out and step into a true driver’s car... just how special that 2nd and 3rd car is in your rich ass garage... because that’s exactly who’s going to buy a 5 series.

These 540s start becoming a VERY viable option in 3-4 years when they hit the used market at a much lower price point 20s-30s. It’s not a competitor at 80 grand, but after the built in depreciation has hit, its definitely a real option for plenty of people. What’s important to know, is that the 540i has one of the most reliable, efficient, and powerful drivetrains BMW has produced in probably 12 years. At this point I would be perfectly comfortable owning a 2017 or 2018 for 30 grand, with 35,000 miles on it. I am aware it will have a cost to maintain just like *any* modern car, but that $50,000 discount makes up for it. I also don’t see myself trying to drive it 150,000 miles into the ground, like some of you assume be default. For me, and many others it will check all the boxes just fine.

Went through numerous tires, thankfully no rims. iDrive is ergonomic (and you're right - the BMW way since the 745i), but has many idiosyncrasies that wreak havoc, such as when the A/C fan stops blowing and its HOT in the cabin (this was looked at multiple times by technicians and its "By Design"). Ha. The handling has limited feel through the wheel, controls are nice. It does go fast in a straight line, but that's it. Carplay integration is terrible and not utilizing the entire screen. Brake pedal is soft and can't be easily modulated, car comes to abrupt stop especially with auto start/stop on - too aggressive to shut down engine. Compared to a Porsche in these areas (handling/suspension, comfort, infortainment, brakes, etc.) the Porsche is superior in every way. I've been driving this (the 530 Xi) for 2 weeks and could not agree more with you guys. It is a clear step up from the 3 series, and does everything great. The question is about its price point and diminishing returns...yes it's better, but not twice as good as an accord. That said once the novelty were off it really is a no-nonsense car that just works. The notable exception being (i) the object sensor thinking it's hitting walls everywhere when it's snowing and (ii) the cheap plastic clicking sound of the volume knob on the steering wheel. Otherwise, it's solid

Exactly, and gives you a little sense of speed when you hammer it on to the freeway. Thats it. Shit I even live in an area to "go for a drive" but never do anyway. Too many big stupid trucks on narrow canyon roads ruin it.

Get the Lexus LS then, it's better built, more fun to drive, will hold it's value better, more reliable, and pampers you much better for a similar price.

Comparing the 540i to Accord or Camry is a joke. Even the 530i is a far more exciting car than either of the Japanese options. The BMW is miles ahead of either the Camry or Accord. Get a two year old 540i for the same price as a Camry, there is no comparison. The Camry is the most boring vehicle I have ever driven. The interior while ok on the surface is still cheaply built and so is that terrible Toyota motor. The Camry v6 offers no refinement. In typical Toyota fashion, Toyota under powers the engine for “reliability” and pairs it with a transmission from 1990.

A number of years ago, I purchased a two year old (at the time) 2014 535i with X Drive and the M Sport package. The car had 23,000 miles on it, and was stored during the winter. Now, it's six years old with 53,000 miles on it and still looking like a showroom model. This spring, I plan an buying a new M5, I can hardly wait.

that was a misdirection by Toyota, the LC500 should have been the new Supra or at least a variant of this as was the case with Lexus SC/Supra platforms in the past

@@paulsolovyovsky1702 I still don't understand the whole BMW/ Toyota thing, since Toyota has literally every ingredient to create their own sports car apart from an inline-6 motor, including a 6-Speed manual trans made for 300-ish hp They literally have a manual V6 RWD 4 door that's based on the IS/RC platform, they could literally just shorten the chassis for a 2 seater. On the speculation side of things, since they're partnering in Mazda for the next IS/RC platform ( with an inline 6 twin turbo on the works ), let's hope they will come back to their senses because the combination should create interesting cars.
@paulsolovyovsky17023 жыл бұрын
@@thatcopenguy Yep, I think they're waiting for the Mazda inline 6 to come out for the next iteration. Just bought a Mazda for one of my kids, with the same engine and drivetrain in all their vehicles it should be drop dead solid for many years

It is a mark of capitalism: Artificial scarcity causes fear and panic and businesses try to find reasons for why things aren't working great anymore, so they do the only thing they can: Do everything different. Because they won't look at the systemic cause for the difficulty. They can never understand. Headless chickens.
@paulsolovyovsky17023 жыл бұрын
@@Dowlphin Dude..this is a luxury item and is purchased as a want not a need so nothing to do with capitalism per se. On the other hand in socialism/communism you get the car they give and it takes 10 years in line to get one..speaking from someone who lived through the Soviet Union and has visited Cuba (where taxi drivers make more in a day then doctors make in a month and the doctors work in private industry to make ends meet)

Yeah, BMWs are better. Don't know why they are complaining about them being no longer sports cars. Nonsense. Sound dampening is good 'cause you can listen to music with more comfort. Even the McLaren GT adds sound dampening and some luxury touches such as a good sound system. And it's still a fully fledged sports car. If the 540i is not nimble enough, they should look at 3rd and 2nd series (as cars are getting bigger). Those lower series BMWs are more nimble and fun but they won't have the same luxury or noise isolation. It's a good alternative between el cheapo cars like Hondas, Toyotas, Hyundais, etc and something like a Bentley. The latter is gonna cost an arm and a leg in terms of upkeep and possible repairs. Yeah, the Bentley is gonna have way more luxury but BMWs are more fun IMO. It's so ridiculous them complaining about this BMW like if BMW didn't produce 2nd and 3rd series. They should praise it; not compare with worse cars saying they don't see much difference. The difference is huge: BMWs do 0-60 in 3-7 seconds depending on the version. Japanese and Korean cars can't do that unless they are dedicated small coupes. In the latter case, the Porsche Cayman and the BMW M2 will also shred them to pieces, but they might still complain about exuberant price tags.
