Cones on the wheel at 3:05 must be screwed onto the rim because if you tried to weld them, the welder would probably just blow holes through the metal. We had a lady welder, my age 62 ,in my welding class recently. Thanks for the video so I could enjoy looking at you too.

you're correct..the constructed tempered alum. cones are bolted to the metal frames ( not screwed ).

Hi Savanna...You do some amazing work. If I may ask, what are you using for wind driver cups? I see you are using the same type for a lot of your sculptures. Are they commercially produced?. Thanks.
@savannaswildnatureworkshop7810

Hi Alan, I use tempered alum. sheet, they are simply folded and bolted together. Different folds produce different shapes and ratios of pitch in cup shapes. Just get some printer paper and try it out....

There are several people building this design as far back as 10 years ago. It is a beautiful design. The ones at the tire shops would have had to be motor driven because of the weight. In my experience building kinetic sculptures the one thing I have learned is that weight causes friction. In other words the heavier it is the more wind it will take to move it. Therefore tire rims would be to heavy for the wind to move it.

Your'e 100% correct.... the manner in which I spin the "tires" ( on a wheel is new.......I first saw tires setup like this in a tire store in the late sixties
@JohnDavis-yz9nq
@JohnDavis-yz9nq 2 жыл бұрын
@@savannaswildnatureworkshop7810 your piece is absolutely beautiful. It takes lots of experience to find the center of gravity and create a balance point. Every spinner is different. They will work out of balance but it will take more wind to turn them. I have been building kinetic pieces for 25 years and I learn something new everyday. I have people ask me if I am a mechanical engineer. I always tell them yes but not on paper. My degree is that scrap pile I have created over the years that did not work out. Keep up the good work girl. I sure enjoy watching your new projects.

@@JohnDavis-yz9nq typically..it takes me about 2 hours to get the balance done on one of my wind toys...with perfect balance, the pices will fly in the lightest of breezes and in strong winds the toys will spin super smoothly, with no destructive wobble. Common to ALL commercial wind toys,

The wind / kinetic art segment of the world is quite small, I checked your channel and saw that you have no videos about how to create these? There's not much out there, haven't created one yet but want more movement in the yard and she does beautiful work and would like to see other artists also

@@GreenCanvasInteriorscape kinetic art is something that you have to be born with. It’s not like watching KZbin and how to cook a pot of cowboy pinto beans. You have to have that magic touch in your being. I’ve tried to teach 2 master machinists how to build kinetic wind sculptures and neither one had the finishing touches when it came to angles and balance. One little thing could be off and neither one could figure it out where the problem was. We are talking about 2 very intelligent men. You have to have that magic feeling in your hands. That is the most important part and it cannot be taught. You have to be born with it. Thank goodness I was.

well...as rodney dangerfield once said, It took him thirty yers to become an overnight success.. there are many you-tube sites to describe how to make simple wind spinners...best to start there and get a few builds under your belt..before you tackle a design of your own...also..balance of the wind toy is critical..otherwise it will not fly correctly. see ya out there...

Greetings John ! Yes I make the driver Cups as well. I call this style of cup, a "Jet" more streamlined and hence turns faster and gives good drive with less drag. it's a 4" x 8" piece of thin aluminum folded in the middle and bolted together using small # 6 bolts and nuts.
