Do you prefer grow pads vs dirt? Is there a benefit?
@KeepOnGrowin
@KeepOnGrowin 4 жыл бұрын
Grow pads are easy but you need a lot of circulation to cut down on mold. That dries it out faster and you need to keep a closer eye on it.

Mike: Also, do I buy seeds for growing microgreens - are they the same seed to use for sprouts? Also, how many ounces of seeds are in a "packet"? Or are you talking about the kind of seeds you purchase at a regular store like Walmart? - Thanks for any response. - Susan Burns

Its pretty cool that you are still doing the micro's Mike. No drought or fires here in Australia this year, so I am excited to get my garden really cranking and become more self-sufficient. Love what you are doing my friend Blessings. Marty

What is the purpose of the fan in your growbox
@KeepOnGrowin

It circulates the air, drying out the top layer of soil and cuts down on mildew.

Can anyone address my concerns about growing micro greens and the possibility of salmonella or other pathogens? I’ve read that this is a possibility even with home grown greens.
@KeepOnGrowin
@KeepOnGrowin 4 жыл бұрын
Sprouts are more of a concern because they are in a moist environment. Micros grow above the soil where the moisture is so there is less chance. Don't trim close to the soil and always wash your hands before handling them. Clean containers between harvest. 😎🖒🌱🌱

Have you tried vinegar instead of bleach. I Googled & found this. Vinegar can also be used to rid of algae. Use a mixture of water and white vinegar to spray down the area and kill the algae.

Cool. I use vinegar sometimes to break down some of the build up. Will try it on the algae. 😎🤘🌱

I used freezer dinner bowls just the other day to sprout some black beans and wheat! The bowls fit nicely in gallon bags, too. I actually germinated by filling the bowl with water to the point of coming up over the seeds and then straining (by lifting strainer and dumping water) about 8 hrs later.

Could you show a pic of the steamfresh frozen dinner box. That container looks perfect for growing mung bean sprouts. Thanks. Oh, I am having trouble finding pool noodles. Any suggestions or do you sell them all nice and sliced?
@KeepOnGrowin

I have seen them online but it gets expensive. I would sell them but I need them to go in with my growbox orders. Some cloning collars are not too expensive if you only need a few.

why did you say use coton wicks vs synthetic ones?
@KeepOnGrowin
@KeepOnGrowin 4 жыл бұрын
Some syntheic ones may have chemicals. Some people may get a cotton wick confused with strapping which looks the same, used in furniture and may be treated with fire retardant.
@dianemyers250
@dianemyers250 4 жыл бұрын
New to this....what do you use for wick?
@KeepOnGrowin
@KeepOnGrowin 4 жыл бұрын
Here, I just used paper towel, heavy duty, not the cheap ones, or a wick you use in an oil lamp. Make sure it is 100% cotton and not treated with anything. I have also used a shammy, cotton washcloth or old tshirt.
