Milk and water jugs cut in half are my favorite to start seeds. I love that I don’t have to pot them up to a bigger container.

I used the regular potting soil to and I use old lettuce store-bought and lettuce containers that you get and use that as the Greenhouse Effect and I also seeing how I'm single I use my chandelier light as my grow light I just replaced the bulb with the grow light bulb

My nursery trays and my potting up pots came from other people or from the trash cans at cemeteries after Mother's Day and Memorial Day. Reusing is better than trashing or recycling!

One other tip is that seeds can be used over a number of seasons. So even if they say they were packaged for 2022 they will work in the years to follow.
@justpatty73282 жыл бұрын
Yes, try to keep them in a cool, dark and dry environment. They will loose germination rates over the years.

I found the seed trays will start to get holes, so moved over to boot trays, with high sides, that fit on my shelves. Also any yogurt container cleaned out or plastic container works great for pots. Trays from tv type meals work great for seed starting and lastly used ziplock plastic bags works great to start baby seeds so you always have enough moisture for them 😁.

You solved my seedling question - long, tall, Sally seedlings. But my metal shelves are set in place and the lights are zip tied above the shelf underneath so they are not movable. BUT I could just stack books under the trays and removed them as the plants grow. THANK you for the inspiration to DIY the solution.

Is there a way you could attach the lights to chains?? That way you could adjust them.

The seeds I buy from Dollar Tree have had almost 100% germination. In 2020, I planted tomato seeds from 2013 from Dollar Tree and they all germinated. I ended up with 50 tomato starts too many and had to beg people to take them. I had tomatoes all over my yard.

Great hacks. I also clean clean my seed pots from the previous yr and soak in a 1/9 clorox solution for about 10 minutes to help prevent an issue with disease that may be present from the previous year. I use a 5 gallon bucket with a lid and can soak a lot of little pots at one time. Not sure this is still recommended but I've been doing it for years. Thanks for sharing your information.

I start my seeds in smaller trays since I start them a little later and have only so much room in the house and no greenhouse. I’ve found tomatoes quickly catch up once planted.

Bootstrap farmer has heavy duty 1070 flats that will last forever on Amazon. I make my own mix, just coconut coir and perlite, super cheap. I reuse containers and cell packs. If my seedlings are needing repotted, I add some worm castings in the mix.

Started plants at box stores in Texas are almost $5 I couldn’t believe it. Nursery’s thankfully are still $2 but I was blown away. I did start some but will have to give them much more focus next year as we are already transplanting.

I've been using the solo cups for many years. I also use my potting mix. The only thing I do different is I bake my damp potting mix in the oven for 30 min at 350 degrees to prevent those nagging fungus knats. It works great. I learned this from Gary Pilchark's channel. To prevent cross pollination, you would need to plant different varieties 100 yards (91 m.) or more apart. This is normally not possible in the home garden. Nice greenhouse. Thank you.

Hi! Do you have a link for where you bought your shelving uniy that shows up at the 5:50 mark in the video? It is 4 foot wide, correct? It also looks to be at least 16 inches deep. I can't seem to locate a 4 foot wide unit, only 36".

Pro tip #1: You can spend the extra time, and a small amount of money to make the sifter, and sift your own potting soil. It catches those chunks that you can break down or remove completely. Just throw the chunks, that you can't break down, into your compost, and they will be ready for you for next year. You can also save your own seeds. Pro tip #2: You can save you own seeds. Then you aren't spending any money on that part. Just be sure you know which seeds you want to save BEFORE you plant so that you can protect the flowers from cross pollination and so that you make sure to only save open pollinated varieties.
