You could have a low pressure system without an assistant tank. It would have an electronic switch to regulate the flow of water into the tank.

i use 4 x HP tubes do add heat to my koi pond for winter having built a simple cycle system myself with a relatively low flow rate and using simple pvc tubes and large dia pipe for the small tank. still working out the kinks but its a cheap easy way to heat a koi pond slightly to try to keep 3000 litres close as possible weather depending to 20-25 deg c. great video good to the point presentation etc

I have 2 low pressure tank for total of 300 Lt of hot water ,I got my system almost 25 years ago and still going strong even if 2 tubes have lost their black colour (have to change them soon....wouldn't change the system with anything else. Small downside: the 3 top floor has less pressure the the other 2 floors but still the best/simple system out there.

We have Viessmann vacuum tube solar hot water system in conjunction with our boiler and a super insulated water tank. On the west coast of Canada it works amazing even on over cast days. We use solar power for the pumps since our tubs run horizontal and the tubes are set at the optimum angle for our latitude. This way the system sits tight to the roof and out of sight. I can see how a low pressure system could make a great for off grid shower.

I've got an unpressuriesd 24T 200l system. I've just put a temp sensor at the bottom of a tube to see the water temp stratification in the night. Its still freezing outside so no water, but the temperature grows immediatly over 128C (max sensor temp) in sunlight and takes around 3 hours to fall to ambient air. Good stuff, cheap, but hard to install. I've removed with no problems a tube with water inside last year. I plan to calculate a liniarity between tank water temp and tubes so I'll know when it's safe to fill or drain earlier in the spring and farther in november and maybe install a low power heater for that .

Nick I am very new at this and have purchased two solar panel water heaters for a home at a beach front house. This house is located at latitude 11.95ª North, hence we have sun all year long. The Panel will be placed in the south to north direction and the roof has a slope of 10ª form north to South. In your experience at what slope from the horizontal do you recommend we place the panel tank to guaranty we have optimum convection flow from the tube to the tank. Thank you.

It is good work. Is it necessary to concentrate the solar radiation? I have been studying about the impact of nanofluids on heat transfer from solar radiation. I need practical work on this kind of experiment. In addition, like in Kenya, in Ethiopia, there is excess sunlight throughout the year. Please, if you have such kind of project, let me know and participate in it. Thank you so much for such an interesting video.

I have an Evacuated Solar Tube system I installed in 2007 here in south western Canada. The solar tubes are only connected to a manifold with no storage at the top. I have 4 panels of 20 tubes each. The hot water is circulated into a 160 gallon stainless tank I have fabricated. It is basically open on top with an insulated lid on it with insulation on all other sides. I coiled 100 feet of copper tubing inside the tank and the service water to the inside gas fired hot water tank goes through this coil and extracts the heat from the tank so there is no connection from the water in the tank to the hot water used in the house. There is a very small low powered ceramic pump that circulates the water from the tubes to the tank. In winter there is sometimes a lot of cloud cover here so the water doesn't get heated. We get temperatures down to -20 F and the system has not yet frozen. My tubes are the cheaper version low pressure tubes. You could describe these tubes as being like a coffee thermos. The inner tube coating absorbs infrared radiation from the sun. If you left one of those tubes outside in sunny weather even at 30 below zero the water in the tube won't freeze. In fact there would be steam coming out the top in bright sunlight.

High water pressure from your local municipality can direct water into the system without a pump. Or you can put up a storage tank above the solar heater to direct water through gravity. But this option will need a pump to take water into the storage tank
