One of the best channels! Informative, helpful, well explained and I enjoy listening to you acting as a team! Thanks a lot!! One question: In Germany I have been told that the main purpose of poly batting is that it protects the fabric from being rubbed by the foam, not just for the shape. What is your opinion on that?... Merry Christmas!

Hey, thank you very much for taking timeout to let us know, seriously we both appreciate hearing it. It makes all the work that goes into videos worth it. That is a great question! First we both know poly batting gives no support. I have never heard of that. HOWEVER I can see that happening both ways, some fabrics (not all) have a backing that will rub down foam as it ages. I have seen that happen, so I would say yes. The other purposes is breaking the feel of a flat foam surface to the touch. It feels cheap! IF no poly is used and the cover is to loose, doesn't fit right. As well as letting the cover have movement not sticking to the raw foam. Even then it doesn't always work well. Side note a high double rub fabric say 18,000 I would believe foam would be no match too it. Thank you again please look for future videos and consider sharing the videos, we will appreciate it if you do. All the best, Paul

You two make a great pair. It seems pretty rare these days to see kids & dads that even like each other; let alone work together. Also, you're right to compare fabric glue to "Elmers" since they are one & the same. It's just aliphatic resin...I buy the cheapest brand I can find.

Also asking how you know if the underpinnings below the cushions are in good shape?
@ucsolutionsgivingmore
@ucsolutionsgivingmore 4 жыл бұрын
It’s a good question Ed, just remove the cushions and if you can’t feel a spring pushing up or maybe even pushing down from underneath the furniture if everything feels firm and intact then you should be fine. So to recap if everything smooth and flat with a cushion sit. And underneath everything is smooth and flat nothing falling down,then you’re good to go. Other than that you’d have to tear into it to check. I hope this helps you and your project thanks again. Cheers, Paul

Do you use the exact measurement of the cushion and then add the Dacron? Or do you use the total measurement i.e. 5" plus 1" Dacron for a 6" cushion.Thank you
@ucsolutionsgivingmore
@ucsolutionsgivingmore 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Ed, thank you for watching the video. If you’re trying to get an insert correct for a cover, we always make the foam insert 1 inch bigger than the finished cover size, then we add the Dacron. The Dacron we do not include in the equation. It serves a different purpose. Like for instance giving a crown to the cushion a nice soft feel. So for example if you have a finished cover size 24“ x 24“ x 5“ thick. The foam insert would be 25“ x 25“ x 6“ thick still adding the Dacron in addition to those measurements. I hope this helps. cheers, Paul

what kind of foam would you recommend for a faux leather (Vinyl) cover? I’m making a headboard, and I want it to have the comfort of a couch (back=not too firm) but I’m worried that the faux leather material from Joann’s I have will eventually sag or show indentation because of the foam movement.......which foam density/layering combo do you recommend that will be comfortable & hold its shape well (its going to have an adjustable back for back support, so it will get much more use compared to the flat/wall headboards - Thanks, you guys are so helpful! (It’s also a Cal King, so I’ll need a large piece - around 72” W x 40” H)

We appreciate you watching our videos! Great question, there are a few points that we would like to bring out about this project. First, we would honestly not suggest a vinyl, since a lower grade vinyl tends to peel after a very short period. If you were to get a vinyl, make sure that they did an abrasion test on it. The abrasion test is quantified in double-rubs or cycles and we would only suggest a 13,000 count or higher. Also in regards to the foam, we would suggest a 3 - 4” thick 26 density 26 compression foam it will hold up the best. I hope this helps! If you need any more help please don't hesitate to contact us here or at the live chat at our website at ucprivatecourses.com. And if you need a source for foam here is a link for the 26 density 26 compression foam slab that we offer: ucprivatecourses.com/product/seat-back-cushion-foam-inserts/ All the Best, Grant

I accidentally broke the cushions on my couch and can't find replacement 6" foam for less than $30 per cushion. Is there a place to find them cheaper?
@ucsolutionsgivingmore
@ucsolutionsgivingmore 6 жыл бұрын
Hello Brianna, First of all thank you checking out the video and commenting. Sorry to say no, 6" is pretty thick it can cost a lot for that reason. You could try gluing two 3" together or three 2" pieces together that could come up cheaper. Foam is an oil byproduct it fluctuates with crude barrel price, however it is usually heads up rarely goes down in price. WHAT A SHOCK!! I hope this has helped you in someway. What ever you do get a high density foam it LAST longer. Please share the videos it really helps when you do that. All the best Paul

ucsolutions And thank you for replying! That sucks to hear but I'm glad I know now. The only way I can think of is to buy a cheap couch with the same style and just use the cushions. Is there a good way to wash them? I broke my last cushions because they kept going sour after a week of waiting to dry. I have tried compression,sitting Iin the sun,sitting inside but on a window,and squishing them with full body weight. They just kept degrading and tearing. With the new cushions,should I give up on them drying and just stuff them in plastic?

Hi Brianna, Please! Explain more I do not understand. Did you put in the complete cushion in the washing machine? Without removing the cover? Sounds like you can't get the cushion to try out. If the foam is pulling apart then the foam is no good and has had its day. Let me know. Thanks Paul
