Some of these alternate Nilsson tracks just strikes a cord that pulls strings you didn’t even know your heart had. All Nilsson is pure gold. This one is pure magic. God Bless Harry Nilsson.❤😎

I remember his death, because at the time I was living a hellish existence and his music was one of the only things keeping me grounded enough to not commit suicide. My baby son had been kidnapped by his criminally insane father in August 1993, missing for more than 4 months. One of the detectives "working" on the case had told me that I needed to accept "reality" and the likelihood that my son was dead. I was losing all hope. Something about losing Harry, my idol since I was a child, brought back the fight in me. Not sure why. I asked the police department to assign our case to a different detective, a wonderful man who had worked tirelessly for 5 years on another missing child case I read about. They listened, and he took over our case! This officer, Det. Spiegelmyer, did not ignore us and went above and beyond his job description. He even prayed with me, and I found out later he had his family and church praying for my son's safe return. Five month's went by, I called this detective almost every day asking if there was any news. He was so kind, and proactive. He made sure my son's picture was being circulated all over the country, he even got his photo and information shown during a nationally-televised movie about Adam Walsh. It wasn't long after that, a police officer in S. Carolina saw my son's father walking down the street. This cop told me later that when he saw him it was like an alarm went off, but he didn't know why. I'm so grateful that this officer pays attention to his instincts (he's a bit of a local legend in his community, he foiled at least two store robberies because he was driving by and something seemed "off"). There was an FBI warrant, so he was arrested, but he refused to talk. Six hours after his arrest, my son was found at a daycare after all the other children had been picked up. He was terrified, not okay, and I took the next flight out to pick him up. However, he was just a baby when he was kidnapped and he had been missing (and abused) for almost a year. When I met the social worker at the airport, my son didn't seem to recognize me. The social worker told me there might have to be a court hearing to determine if he should be allowed to come home with me, since my own son didn't seem to know me. That's when an idea popped into my lame brain! His favorite song that I sang and rocked him to sleep, "Little Cowboy". I blinked away my tears, and sang in a shaky voice, "Little Cowboy, put your saddle in the barn, tie your horse up tight so he'll know no harm..." He lit up, ran to me and fell into my lap. The social worker (wiping away tears) told me to take my son home, there would be no need for any court hearing. Thank you Harry! kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3bWZZeqfraGbZY

Lazy I Ranch, Oh my gosh, what a beautiful story - or I should say a beautiful ending to a tragic story. Praise God you got him back. Would have been easy, in that state of mind to forget about the song, but thank God, you thought of it. What a beautiful tribute to Harry as well. I'm so happy for you!!

I read your comment and ended it while this song ended. It had me in tears, literally. I am so glad it had such a happy ending. I’m truly so happy for you and hope you’ve remained happy w your son in your life. I hope he’s grown into a healthy young man and maybe has given you a grandchild or two or more. Take care.❤️

Sheer brilliance, Sort of haunting. Interesting that the writer was wheelchair-bound and everybody and anybody danced with the bride except for Doc Pomus. Apparently she would go out dancing with truckers and Doc Pomus wrote this as a sort lament...

His voice is sooo much better than the "Pussycats" LP. So sad he ruined that instrument of his so young. Love Harry!!
@Robutube17 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Harry was of course a very heavy smoker (A Touch of... was edited for wheezing) and then on top of that, he sang "against doctors orders" on Pussycats because he had only a limited amount of time to record with John Lennon. We can only imagine how superb his cover of this song would have been when in full voice in the late sixties...
