Been doing it for years (Mobile). I haven't bought sliced bacon in I don't know how long. I put mine in a little electric chopper after it's rendered to make really small bits. I keep my grease in a stoneware container, with a tight lid, on the counter, but I use so much of it for my soul food, it doesn't have time to go bad. 😋 And it's not but about 100 calories per tsp., so bring on the eggs and biscuits!

I bought a jar of bacon grease from ShopRite supermarket and I keep it in the cabinet under my sink. Used it yesterday to sauté onions, celery and carrots for a pot of split pea and ham soup. Great smokey flavor in every bowl. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼

Bacon ends is a great cost saver, and perfect for chipped bacon bits to be used later. I can smell it from here!! 💕helpful hint, starting off with cool skillet, and cold bacon to start, will render twice as much bacon grease. Love Y’all💕

I love bacon grease. I am glad you put it in the refrigerator. Back when our parents and grandparents used to leave it out the hogs were fed differently usually the pork meat was smoked with wood the meat was first preserved in salt then smoked. Now days we don’t know how the meat is really processed.

OMG! This reminds me of my grandmother. She and Grampa were depression era folks. Grandma always had a crock she kept her bacon grease in. She also had cast iron skilliet she used for prepairing food. One of the depression dishes she would serve was chopped cooked potatoes with fresh chopped onions and a dish of hot bacon greese. You would garnish your potatoes, (after mashing them down with your fork). sprinkle the chopped onions over the top followed by drizzles of hot bacon grease . Bacon grease made other meats and dishes taste better, made better gravy from what we called meat drippings, (the crispy bits of meat left from frying). Shoot! Now I want to start saving bacon grease and season a 10 to 12 inch cast iron skillert.

We have so much we can learn from prior generation folks. I know I missed out on a ton of good info that I could have learned from my grandparents if I had only been interested while they were here.

@@BroussardHomestead Still....you seem to lean to the old way when it comes to bacon. I was raised by my grandparents on a farm. Always had a garden, and it was nothing as kids for us to go to the garden, pull up some carrots and radishes, wash them off under the garden hose and eat them right then and there. lol We may not have always eaten the healthiest of foods, but I strongly believe we worked and played much much harder as kids than those today. We were like perpetual motion machines. Because of that, I think the fattier richer foods didn't have the adverse effects it does today. We also ate a lot more raw fruits and vegitables back then. Bring on some more old fashioned cooking.

As Emeril said. Pork fat rules. Have a big container in the fridge as well. Love using cast iron. You don't get the hot spots that you get with stainless, aluminum, etc. Bacon grease for everything from eggs to browning pierogi.

@@BroussardHomestead But you get my comment. This local store, it's 6.50 lb of butter. I can save ends from sliced ham off bone at work, to fry. But I give or sell eggs off anyway. And my chucks will be a stopping making eggs as cold comes on...

Please, make a video about how to store bacon ends and pieces in the freezer! I'm trying to save some bacon pieces for later to save money. After use, I store opened package of bacon pieces in the refrigerator for long time and it's starting to go bad. So I end up throwing bacons in the trash can. What a waste of money.

Contrary to the conventional "wisdom", animal fats are exceedingly healthy. Think about it, ancient man didn't have the technology to extract fat from plants -- that's a modern development -- the only fats available for 99.99% of human evolution were animal fats. They are in fact *more* healthy than even the healthiest of plant oils, and a lot of plant oils are actually unhealthy for us.
