iPad mini is certainly the most underrated iPad. it is the real iPad that one can really use outdoor and on the go.

iPad mini 7 is the only real iPad left in the lineup. you can use it without getting tired and can take it anywhere. everything else is trying to be a laptop replacement and after using a few Pros I realized you're better off just getting a MacBook air, holding 11 inch tablet for even a short period of time is tiring and it costs more than a macbook when you include the pen and Magic Keyboard

I don't run any apps that challenge the speed of my mini 6; whileI do have some really under powered Android tablets and even underpowered Chromebooks, (Lenovo 10e!) almost anything that runs iPadOS 18 is plenty fast for me , I'm basically a KZbin/Google Docs/Microsoft Word kind of user. I'm am envious of the entry level 128gb you just got, however; 64gb should bd ancient history on a premium brand like Apple.

I upgraded to the Mini 7 from the 5, which is a big upgrade. I also have an iPad Air, and I love both of them. They’re both iPads, but to me that’s where the similarity ends. Because of the size and weight difference they have totally different uses, which makes comparing the two kind of a moot point.

mini only important if you need small screen. but the price doesnt make sense. it used to be we are paying for bigger screen now we are paying for smaller screen that doesnt have compelling features.

I have 4 iPad minis. 2,4,5,6. Hand me downs galore. Comes down to size and how you use it. I’m a grabber and rest it on my stomach. The glare of the larger screen of the air and the weight of holding it for long hours would be too much for me. Mini is perfect. If you rest your iPad next to you or on the table while using, air is a no brainer. Might want to wait for the m3 or m4 version though.

@ I bought all of them new. Hand me downs are to the kids. So when I buy another one, it’s not like the last one is being wasted or I have to sell. 2 is useless now. Too slow. 4 the kids cracked the screen but still usable. I can still get the 7 and hand down the 6 but it’ll be $430 with tax and as you said, not much of an upgrade. Pity they didn’t put in 18pro or even an m2

thats what people said when the m1 came out. how long we gonna keep waiting for a new model to come out just get whats out now dont wait on anything. the m2 is more than enough clearly if the mini has a a17 and does just fine . the m2 in the air will last YEARS its literally a fucking macbook chip in a tablet it might last at LEAST 5 years i expect a good 7-8 years for the air and 3-5 for the mini

Screen Size : mini-7 = 8.3" Air-M2 = 10.9" Battery / 100% Brightness Playback : mini 7 = 7.5 Hrs iPad Air M2 = 5 Hrs Single-Core CPU / GPU : mini 7 / A17 = 2870 / 25608 Air 2024 / M2 = 2591 / 41943 Both come with 20W fast-charger. ** So basically : mini-7 = portable + battery Air M2 = bigger + performant

I have the 6th, the m2, along with my iPhone 12 mini. All together they are the ultimate replacement for folding phones and desktop computers. I reach for the mini more than any of them and it’s been a blast. I don’t think you need to upgrade to the 7 if you already have the 6. I use affinity designer suite on the m2 and it rocks doing my vector graphics. The large 13 size has been amazing. I live off grid so the long battery life is crucial for me. My three year old dell hasn’t seen much use with that i7 sucking up power. I also have one of those carrier bags I put my iPad and phone in and I’m set traveling. Since I started with android I bought the a9 and had the a7 lite. Both are great and slimmer than the iPad mini. They have been great getting into Gmail and having my custom nova set up. The a9 is a major upgrade to the a7 lite for sure. I hope that helps some people making a decision, if android had a great illustrator app I would probably go with xioami or one plus. I had the xioami note 8 pro and just loved it but they don’t support the phone long enough. Well good luck everyone.

The iPad mini is perfect for field workers who need an apple compatible tablet; It will fit in a men's suit pocket so it doesn't even need a carrying bag or case. The camera is in a bad location for desk zoom conferences, but in a good location for holding it up in portrait mode for such zoom conferences. It's just a lot easier to hold it like a book when it's narrow; A full-sized ipad is just too wide whether it's in portrait mode or landscape mode. That being said I was recently on an overseas trip and found the iPad mini 6 sufficient for all my needs. Usually I hate the fact that the iPad mini screen is set up to duplicate a full-sized iPad screen; the iPad mini doesn't make anything bigger for these tired old eyes - it's literally just shrunken full-sized iPad screen. Google does much better with Anroid on 8 inch tablets than Apple does on their nearly 9 inch tablet in terms of right sizing the type fonts and the icons.

My choice is the Samsung Tab S9. Much more useful. But the Mini 7 has no competition in the small tablet space. Having both the Tab S9 and the Mini 7, it still amazes me how limited the iPad is.

I bought the mini 7 specifically b/c you can attack a telescopic controller to it w/o having to mod the controller. It might be possibly with some diy to do something similar with a larger iPad but there’s no native support. Attaching a usb-c controller to an iPad mini creates the closest thing to a dedicated gaming device for iso, since everyone is using their phones for many other things. You can game on an iPhone & attack a controller but it’s certainly not dedicated. An iPad mini with controller attachment can serve as a dedicated gaming unit.

Many reviewers of the new 2024 iPad Mini (7th generation) seem to be missing the point-by a country mile. The real focus here is price point. From Apple’s perspective, the iPad Mini needed an update, but it wasn’t about creating another high-end, desirable luxury gadget. Instead, it’s more in line with what the iPad used to represent before Apple’s focus shifted to large, powerful tablets with limited portability. The iPad Mini has never been a massive seller, but it has a loyal niche market that appreciates its unique size and functionality. And with this new model, Apple’s hit the right price. With this budget-friendly focus, Apple didn’t set out to pack the Mini with high-end specs. So, out go ultra-smooth screens, bigger batteries, and high-performance CPUs and GPUs. Instead, Apple made use of A17 Pro chips-those with one failed core from iPhone 15 production runs. The result? Perfectly usable chips that don’t drive up costs. More RAM and storage upgrades were manageable without bumping up the price. And the design? It’s built with one-handed use in mind, so slimming down the bezels wouldn’t be practical. The addition of the new Apple Pencil support and promises of more Apple intelligence down the line will appeal to users, even if some features aren’t available at launch. Plus, the Mini’s improved internals mean it can handle more “grown-up” apps-a nice perk for fans who need serious functionality in a portable form. This should set out the practical approach Apple took with the iPad Mini, making it a solid, cost-effective choice for those who value portability over luxury.

This is a well written comment with the underlying truth. Apple wanted to upgrade a niche product and not to create another high end device. I wish your comment would reach more people as I am tired of seeing the constant complaints about unrealistic wishes.

Only shame is it didn’t get the 18 pro chip. Mini always gets the latest chip as it’s been on a 3 year cycle. Unless Apple plans to update the next one a lot sooner. Btw folks, it’s already $100 off on Amazon

In the distance, a wall looms, faintly inscribed with something I can’t quite make out. But there's a feeling, a hunch, that whatever’s scrawled there holds a hint about the future of Apple's iPad mini. I don’t need an M4 processor to divine its meaning-just a little intuition. Reaching for my Pixel 8 Pro, I tap into its impressive 2400-nit bright display and activate the 30x zoom. The image snaps into sharp focus, thanks to the phone's AI processing, revealing the message as if it were carved in stone: “THE IPHONE MINI IS DEAD.” The words hang there, a harbinger. And I realize that the iPad mini 7-the newest addition to Apple’s lineup-may well be the final descendant of Steve Jobs’ compact tablet vision. In my mind, I’m already picturing the next step. The scene sharpens in my imagination: a small, tight-knit team of genius Apple engineers are gathered around a prototype of the future. They’re working on what could be the iPhone 20 or 21, and I catch sight of a futuristic, scrolling OLED screen unfurling from the side of the device. It snaps open, revealing a sleek 8.3-inch OLED screen with no ugly folds. The display is flawless, capturing every detail with almost impossibly high resolution-the culmination of all the specs the rumor mill had clamored for in the lead-up to the iPad mini 7. Just for an instant, I glimpse the price tag-a four-digit figure, gone as quickly as it came. The future is still taking shape, but one thing’s clear: Apple's journey with the iPad mini may be nearing its end, but the spirit of innovation isn’t slowing down. The message is as clear as the image, you have to pay for Rolls Royce quality tech.

Ofc the iPad Air is going to have double the performance in the GPU that is expected for a M2 processor, but that doesn’t meant the A17 Pro chip isn’t good. I would have loved to hear your comments about the actual performance of the mini vs the Air while gaming. Is the double the performance a difference between them knowing both screens are locked at 60hz??

How can you compare those two ipads, completely different sizes aimed at very different users. How many people can carry a monster tablet like the air around with them. The mini is portable, fits in a pocket and you can use it anywhere, plane, train , automobile and the air is for those who carry a back pack or similar. If you want to do a comparison at least compare same size tablets.
