Away from international spotlights, war has torn apart Sudan, a country located in the Northeast of the African continent. 8 million people have so far been displaced by the ongoing fighting. 💔 As with all human conflicts, animals are strongly affected as well. Almost 50 wild animals had been left behind with little access to food 🥫, water 💧 and veterinary care 🩺 in a center run by Sudan Animal Rescue. Before things could get even worse, they reached out to FOUR PAWS in a cry for help and with a single wish: to get the animals out of the high conflict escalation zone in the south of the capital city Khartoum.  
Despite our experience with operations in conflict zones, this would turn out to become one of our most challenging missions to date. Getting to the animals required meticulous preparations, as well as arranging their transport 🚚 and making sure crates are available. While we tried to plan out everything in advance, a mission like this one always brings unforeseen challenges. Once we arrived on site, we had to acknowledge that the animals were in a far poorer condition than expected. Last-minute route changes due to the ongoing conflict forced us to constantly update our plans, all that while we were trying to keep the injured and famished animals alive. 🩹🦁
In an incredible team effort 🤝, we managed to get the animals to a safe place within Sudan and handed them over to the Sudanese Wildlife authorities. What we did not know back then is that we would be back only two months later. 
Unfortunately, the situation in Sudan worsened, conflicts escalated 💥, resulting in the taking over of Wad Madani. The animals were once again no longer secure. We had to face the fact that the only option to permanently find a safe spot for the animals was to get them out of the country. ✈️ If our first evacuation had been difficult, arranging international transport for such a large number of wild animals made our previous visit look easy.  
We pushed through and managed to get the animals to Jordan 🇯🇴 and from there on to our LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary in South Africa 🇿🇦. Our incredible colleagues on-site are providing an entire Special Care Unit to make sure they are settling in well. Although we cannot forget the dark hours, like the passing of lions Leo and Karim and will continue to mourn for the lives lost 💔, we are incredibly grateful and proud of our achievement!  🐾

These humans are the most amazing people. The most wonderful work they do in saving the animals. It is always the animals that suffer. I wish I was rich in money so that I could contribute to the organizations that do this great work. A magnificent piece of film. But sad, losing Karim. The tears flowed here for me.

First of all, I thank the resilient, persistent, dangerous and daring rescue team Four Paws for this mission. They put their lives in the line of fire literally to rescue these animals who went through so much trauma than any other living beings could have. Four Paws you require a huge recognition to have accomplished such a feat. Guys Four Paws channels require a lot of subscribers and likes and comments so that at least the guys who work on the dangerous mission like these will have redemption. ❤❤❤

"Release them into their enclosures". Born free or life is not worth living. GOD bless each and everyone of you for the unwavering love and care given to His animals.GOD has confirmed with me He will be bringing all His creatures home with Him in the rapture very soon! Everyone who calls on the LORD Jesus will be saved. Not a coincidence that I hear spoken "peace and safety on yet another video today. To your comment, I would argue that experiencing these situations in real life would be so dramatic that nothing could accurately convey it. Just *one* of those checkpoints in the first journey would severely test my courage, I'm sure. The danger the people were in along a lot of that journey was real. People fighting for their lives, beliefs or territory do not care about animal welfare. And managing the extreme medical conditions while transporting them, which is ordinarily a stressful experience for even a healthy animal, must weigh so heavily on the Four Paws staff that I, who have run a Rescue for companion animals in a suburban setting, could not even imagine all the issues faced and responsibility undertaken. I'm glad you're an ongoing supporter of Four Paws though, as am I. xx😊

Rescuing these animals from Sudan has been challenging - not only was it highly sensitive due to the difficult political situation and ongoing war, our team was facing great uncertainty with the changing circumstances as they rushed against time to rescue highly distressed animals who have been suffering severe long-term starvation.
