@udayanadhye most of my accumulated salary (1cr+) is in FDs. I've started investing in MFs since the second year of my job, and it is ~25L now. This is not very impressive as the absolute return is 10%. Where do you suggest I should invest the FD money? I find myself restarting a 1 year FD when the current matures and I'm not that interested in real estate. I'm 26 now so I think I can take some risk.

I have many crores. Trust me its the 10L that is most important. When you save 10L you have learnt the value of postponing your pleasures, you feel like someone in this world, you are more confident in the workplace because you know you are covered for a year - you become a different person. 1 cr is important for a different reason altogether. But make the 10L happen first - you will feel respected in your own eyes

Happy for you mate. A 10 lakh corpus can act as an emergency fund, a backup amount for raising your baby or maybe as a down payment for a small home (once your income is almost guaranteed monthly).

Joined an early-stage ecom startup, and worked directly with the CEO 6 days a week. Saved aggressively (>80% of in-hand). Grew my active income by 10x in the last 5 years by gaining new skills and on-job performance. Having said that, I've also been incredibly lucky and blessed to have such a supportive family. Staying with them allows me to save on major household expenses. The market has been kind too. So it's been one heck of a ride. Wish you the best!

Yes... 10 lakh brings the pride and self respect, One Cr is like a marathon which cannot be done in a single GO, it can be completed if we break it into smaller targets like 5km each, so that instead of thinking of the ultimate finishing line, we keep targeting the next finishing line at the end of 5km, and so on....

@@sidstar593 I personally invest in 4 to 5 different mutual funds. My portfolio includes Flexi Cap, Mid Cap, Small Cap, Momentum Fund & One Hybrid fund.... As I am young I have not done any pure debt investment yet apart from PPF. Recently started a very small amount of SIP in the microCap index fund, I don't recommend it though.
