Saving a very clean, very cheap, Pontiac Grand Am GT from the crusher

If you look long enough and bid on enough cars you get lucky occasionally. This 2003 Pontiac Grand Am GT had only 66,000 miles on it and it really only needs minor repairs. I paid the same price scrap buyers paid for burned out hulks. It would have been a shame to see this one crushed so I am glad I got it. The biggest part of the repair will be the quarter panel. My first goal is to get it drivable and safe to pass the safety test. In order to do that, it will need some suspension and steering parts replaced, new airbags, the trunk aligned, the sunroof repaired, lights checked and a wheel changed.

I remember renting one and I was driving out of the airport lot I noticed that the odometer read 3 miles, so it was obviously brand new. I had the car for a week put about 400 miles on it and even filled out and mailed back the GM customer comment card that was in the owner's manual case. I didn't care for the hard plastics but otherwise thought it was a pretty good car for it's time.

I JUST found your channel. Thanks KZbin recommended. 😏 Moreover, I have a 2004 Grand Am, 182,000 miles, paid $900 for it. I've had it for a little over a year and LET ME TELL YOU, I've put a good amount of $ into it - for several reasons. The main reason being that it has appeared to me that previous owners/drivers failed to do basic maintenance. 🤦 My most extensive repair has been motor work: intake gaskets, all 6 fuel injectors & harness, etc. I'm surprised my car was still running up to that point because the inside of my motor was fried. 😩 To sum up, I love my car and I've come to love Grand Ams. It made me happy to find your channel and see this video. I've come to learn some cool things about my car. ☺️ Thanks!

Scott: I too, really like Grand Am's! Glad you saved it. Up here in Michigan, like by you maybe, they are becoming a rarer breed. For a little car, they were made well and handled pretty good. They were fun to drive. Can't wait to see what you do to it. Glad you're fixing the dog leg on it. It will look nice. I enjoy watching you put cavity wax and your normal treatment to make it last a little longer! Great work and good video!

I've had a lifelong love for Pontiac. Where GM failed you picked up the ball and I thank you for it and keeping the 'Tiger' alive. (You either have or many people think you have a SAG Award - but reality says you do your own editing and very well too.) Love that 'tie-rod' repair tool. (What a simple idea.) Always great to know the vehicle and have parts. Those cars had many hoods with various hood scoops with various 'nostrils' so the Tiger could breathe well (gladly carried in most of the Pontiac line). Listen, I care NOT what you choose to work on as long as you provide us content - YOU make the build! Thank you for another! Sonny (CT)

Cool build. I had two Montana vans with the 3.4 in them. I got about 250,000 hard miles out of each before they died. No complaints. No tricks, just kept up with maintenance. It's a people mover with decent performance. In the Grand Am they got about 1000 lbs less weight to pull so they should be even better.

I can't fix a paintchip on a rearview mirror, but this is probably my favorite channel. which is a huge surprise being that it's not a gun channel. But great work, I would kill to spend a week or two with you learning how to fix this kind of stuff. Very entertaining and they way you explain stuff and show it is masterful. LoL When you rolled down the ramp backwards. I hate doing that. Scares the crap out of me every time since I rolled a side-by-side off a trailer doing that once when the ramp collapsed.....

Greeting Scott from Buford, GA. I find nothing boring about your builds. You make automotive repair fun & entertaining, I'm always laughing about one thing or another! I guess that you'll have to get the afternoon crew to explain the lifting down thing to you. When you went to put the door on the car, I was saying make sure you lift it down. HaHaHa!!! The only thing that sucks is we have to wait a whole week to see another video. Have a good weekend! Spoke at ya later. P.S. Forgot to say nice find there!

I saw an older Grand Am today, the one with the rectangular butt. It was a blast from the past. Don't see many of them anymore in my area. They used to be everywhere around here. I think this body style has held up well. It still looks good to me. Even better than when they were new actually, I thought they were OK looking back then.

I had an 03 just like this but black. Bought it with for $6,000 & it too had 66k on it & put 104k on it in 5 years. I loved that car, most reliable car I've ever had. Only ever had a fuel pump go & oil pressure switch blew(both in the first 3 month of owning it) . Check engine light only came on once for an o2 sensor & that was it. Unfortunately it got totaled out by my insurance company after I hit a deer..I miss that car
