Born in Virginia, John Apperson came north as a young man in 1900 to work for GE in Schenectady, New York. As an avid outdoorsman, he soon discovered Lake George and the Adirondacks. Realizing the threat on the land from commercial interests, he became known as an active preservationist earning the respect of influential politicians and philanthropists. This is a pictorial history of John Apperson’s work to save Lake George and the Adirondacks for future generations.
