I had the same problem on Camponotus nicobarensis. From 100w they dropped to just 30w. It took 3 weeks of lemon therapy quarantined, as I didn't have predatory mites. I had to take out infected workers. It eventually worked. They are now recovering. Edit: you should get predatory mites (ones that kill parasitic mites) for an outbreak this large. You can still save a thousand workers in the old nest if action is taken quickly.

You can place a piece of paper that beekeepers use in a tube, the paper has some acids in it so the mites will die after an ant walks over the paper.

@@AntHolleuferI'm watching your channel for this reason... To see if these are Vero mites which also infest bee hives. If they're the same mite, then ants stealing honey etc. May be the source of the infestation to which ensuring ants don't get in your hives would prevent the spread of the mites to the bees. Your set up could be cooked or use boiling water to kill the mites, but you might need to fumigate your ants with the stuff used in bee keeping. Just search for beehives with mites fumigated. Yes you can get the sticky traps but they might also trap the ants. What mites are these? Your local state university extension office just might be able to help with info on the mites or a university professor studying insects. Just call around, would love to watch videos on your journey!

I know folks have recommened this before however, Predatory mites would indeed solve your issue if you had a good starting population. Or at least, isolate a small section of your ants with a queen and introduce a few predatory mites to kill off the blood sucking ones. I know AntsCanada used beneficial (predatory) mites from rhino beetles he caught and grew and they helped him salvage his infested colony. I would also recommend springtails and isopods to help with keeping the feeding area cleaner as they won't hurt your ants and limit the population growth of harmful mites by eating scraps left behind. A bioactive setup wouldn't be the worst thing to try.

I can tell you like ants Canada because your videos mirror his a lot. However, it also mirros the problems his videos have as well. [A confusing mix of fakeness and genuinity from the tone of voice used, a Clickbait-like feel to the video(that frustrates many viewers) due to 'not getting to the point' (for dramatic effect), slow pacing that makes the video drag, etc.] You should probably do your own thing instead. Good luck with your ant colony, those mites are a piece of work Hope they grow healthy!
