Are you sure they were dead? they look like a typical pupae when you opened the cocoons, they might have left them outside to temperature regulate? Also bull ants are always hard, don't feel bad about yourself.

Just wondering if you have any tips for these ants. I caught a queen of slightly different species myrmecia fulvipes but assumed myrmecia have similar care. Specifically, how often and what do you feed, recommended things in outworld such as why you have so many springtime and do you recommend Ytong nest over test 4ube inside outworld because others said use tube and that is what I have currently, but I see your setup worked very well. Also what sugars do you feed yours, just jelly? I feed mine honey, just wondering. Also how often do you check on them not to freak them out as well as how you get such good footage without scaring the Queen. This is kind of long but the help would be much appreciated considering your experience 😊

I've noticed that messors, in my experience, are difficult to found sometimes. I have maybe nine queens, and most of them could never settle down in their test tubes for whatever reason. Only one of them thrived and produced workers. Five months later, she has nearly two dozen(maybe more) with more on the way. No signs of torpor yet, so I guess colony growth will continue. I prefer polygynous inbreeding species, but Messor barbarus has to be my favorite.

Bull ants are a very difficult species of ant to keep and I don’t think he was ready. He didn’t transfer the colony correctly or make sure the dirt was clean by baking it then moistening it. He’s also trying to push the ants towards hunting when they have been stressed by all the light and being moved terribly

Breeding fire ants is a bad idea. They are an invasive species that will destroy everything in their path. I fought them in Texas for 20 years without luck. It should be illegal.
