Geez that pitch black HUD tape?!!! How incredible that you were mentally apologising to your family when you were open to the possibility of sacrificing yourself for the SBS in dire straits. Love that the SBS unit plaque has special pride of place on your wall. Thank you both. 10 Percent True is the best

Steve, one of your best and this really meets your mission for presenting a story over just a fly bye. Ned has real maturity to open up and reveal the whole part of the story. My guess is not knowing how it was resolved as he flew back was the toughest part. Many thanks to you both, riveting stuff!

This interview is why your channel is different from all the others. They’re not just interviews about a jet and a career, they tell real, human stories. This, Kluso, and Pacos interviews could easily be commercial documentaries and are your finest (in my opinion). Well done helping these men tell their incredible stories. 🍻

I didn’t know Col. Linch that well, but I always liked him. He always seemed to be down to earth and not cocky and arrogant like some of the other pilots.

Excellent episode. I listened to it while walking and just had to watch the HUD tapes when I got home. The emotion in his voice came across when they had to RTB thinking they'd failed. Time to re-read Zero Six Bravo. Reply

Superb job for saving our SBS men. Thank you..Always sad to hear that a valiant combat fighter lost their life to a damn car accident. A stark reminder of our times. Many thanks Steve... Bravo Ned, your valour is a sign of your character: a man amongst other men. A rare-breed indeed.

I read about this in Zero Six Bravo from the SBS perspective - an utterly desperate situation. Ned was the right man in the right place but faced with impossible constraints - they did their best and saved a lot of lives that night regardless.

Wow, another gem. For anyone interested in modern-ish military aviation at more than a surface level, this channel is a treasure! Tiny technical suggestion - Steve, your mic is very good, while most of your guests are just using their built-in laptop mic. So Steve's voice is very bass-y, while the guests are all a bit mid-treble biased. Since you can't change their mics, it might sound a bit more balanced if you were to pull back the bass on Steve's track just a bit... for the easier, it would be a bit easier to find the right volume to hear both of you clearly. Just a suggestion from the peanut gallery, and offered from a place of great respect and appreciation - you're capturing history. Thanks.

Hes not exaggerating whatsoever about the level of noise an f16 makes at full burner. I live by an air force base that has an f16 wing and currently phasing in the f35 also. My house is also on the perimeter of a military aviation training area. When these guys come flying over, even just 1 or 2 of them chasing eachother, my entire house and ground literally shakes and the noise is wayyy up there. When the base is launching multiple up, you get good at guessing how many are on takeoff roll by how low that roar is and the level of vibration in the ground. Just 6 on roll gets it going for my area 15miles away. Any enemy having such aircraft making low passes and popping chaff is definitely going to pause expecting bombs any second. Those moments are all those guys on the ground need. Ned and Wolf are true heroes

Absolutely fantastic! You deserve 100 times the Subs. But you're doing it the right way and you'll get there. Great story too. Obviously the Brits are alot more secretive with their SF. It's normally only in stories like these where you even find out what they've been up to. 🇬🇧🇺🇸

this yet again highlights the pityful pre intelligence and complete lack of backup saved by trained determined airmen taking their best shot in untenable circumstances and the capability of the SBS operators in the ground however, the career officers protecting their pensions whom miscalculated the risks, should be, and still be, in jail

Steve please start making better use of audio compression. You sound like you're whispering I have to crank it up on my tv just hear you then you're guests come blaring. Turning your own voice down in your headphones will also aid in your speaking up. Love the channel but it's so frustrating that I leave the volume down sometimes even though I can't hear what you say. That's a bad sign.

@@10percenttrue Trying to help. I watch your videos on my tv. Im not going to time stamp when it is. Just take my word for it. It isn't just/or specifically this video but it also isn't always. For example, the Adam Robison interview was much easier to hear. Why is that? As a vocalist and recording artist myself it is Glaringly apparent. One thing that may be confusing the matter is that in your interviews, you are the one with a respectable microphone. The interviewees have what they have. One would think that would help you be heard better but in reality it isnt how audio works. Their mics dont have the frequency response of your's. This is where it gets strange. Many playback devices are pre-scooped if you will to make what you play through it sound better. The folly of all of the consumer devices is that they cannot all make up for a poorly mixed audio file equally. Audio compression can help equalize the volume of everything but mixing helps you equalize the frequencies. For you, your personal mic mix is carried primarily by lows and mids. Your guest's are carried by high mids and highs. That's what you want to equalize and then compress everything afterwards. Just don't compress it too far to where it erases all expression. Mids also are gatekeepers of expression. There's only so much you can do with your guest's vocals. Bring them in a little but scoop your's and run it through at least a high pass filter. A good hack is to first make yourself sound like them and then work the session from there. I can listen to your episodes on headphones and I can hear everything, but not on a regular tv. I can listen to the fighter pilot podcast on anything and hear everything. This is what I'm trying to help with. Love the channel. If you'd like to discuss this further, feel free to PM me.
