One tip, put all your fresh-gathered seeds and place in a cup of water. Slowly pour out all floating seeds. The seeds that sunk to the bottom should be good for planting. I didn't know that the peppers will continue ripening after cutting,Thank you.

I don’t know about jalapeños but I’ve spent the last several days testing seeds for viability. My jalapeños were all green not yet red and I have placed 10 seeds I had dried for a week by my AC unit where air was very dry. I had 90% viability and had plants trying to grow in the mini hothouse I made out of plastic food containers with clear plastic top and folded paper towel I kept mildly wet! They germinated about 2 eeeks and I’m thinking I may plant them and hope I have enough time! I’m in zone 6 so we will see!

I ate a green bell pepper and for fun took the whole pepper and planted it in a large pot on my deck. I now have around 23 plants ! I have had them indoors under a grow light for the cold season. They are still growing strong. Were my seeds immature, it was a green bell pepper like yours, or was I lucky?

Instead of trying all this just buy a red bell pepper. Easier and faster. Red bell peppers are actually ripe green bell peppers.

Hi Robbie, I'm a newbie to gardening so excuse me for this question. Can I plant the whole cap with seeds in a pot?
@sometimessnarky1642 Жыл бұрын
Probably not a good idea. You'll potentially get twenty seedlings in that pot which you will then have to separate and replant or just snip off and kill. Once dried remove the seeds and plant 2-3 in a pot. Then thin the weak ones.
@A.C.71 Жыл бұрын
Would it be better if you waited until the green bell peppers turn a little red..I have one that is turning red and it was the first to appear so the others are probably not far behind. When it turns red does that mean the seeds will be ok to plant even without cutting the top off like you did here?
@saltlifegull40912 жыл бұрын
Awesome! How about the yellow, red and yellow peppers? Do you think most of the peppers are hybrids in the store?

Funny, I just found a little, dried up cap of green pepper with the seeds still on and tucked it in a pot with a pepper that is already producing. In fact, that pepper came from that pot. The cap had not turned red, and almost none of my bell peppers ever turn red. But, if even one seed sprouts and grows, it will be a good thing.

I saw a video from a gardener in Eastern Europe who advises that the pepper seed should have the little nub at its edge carefully snipped off, which will allow the root to poke out more easily and not have to waste energy trying to force its way. Any thoughts?
@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy9 ай бұрын
Never heard of this at all, and I grow tons of pepper seeds, I can’t stop them from germinating, it sounds like a click bate video
@jackmacswan71839 ай бұрын
I have since learned that most peppers start out green and turn red, orange or yellow when they ripen. Seeds taken from immature fruit will never sprout as they are premature and not sufficiently developed to sprout. To accelerate ripening, the gardener I watched CAREFULLY sliced through the flesh near the stem, leaving a bit of the flesh on, to remove the end of the pepper WITH seeds attached. Put the severed stem (seeds and all) in small dish, put it on a window sill and wait until the pepper has turned color to red or yellow or whatever color they reach when ripe. This will take a week to 10 days, shorter if it gets lots of sun. Then collect and plant the seeds.
@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy9 ай бұрын
@@jackmacswan7183 I do it as I did here in this video, leave the seeds attached to the Mother center part of the pepper, and all the seeds continue to mature
