Fun fact. Or rather a sad one. Back in January 2007 I played through Quake 4 at an internet café with framerates of 4-6 most of the time, occasionally reaching about 10 in some places, but falling down to 1-2 during heavier fights. I had simply tried the first level and got interested. There were some computers with better hardware, but Q4 wasn't installed on them. So I played through the first couple of levels and then in the next week or two kept playing and finished it. I have no idea why I did it. Perhaps I'm a stoic in nature, but I wouldn't have done that if I could choose again. Still I have fond memories of Quake 4.

Aw man, seeing this slim-factor Acer brings back memories. I had one several years back and it had the AMD Phenom quad-core apu. It did all of my gaming for quite a few years. I then swapped the internals into a larger case and added a normal size (and larger capacity) power supply and an actual gpu (HD-5750 if I remember correctly) and it continued to be my gaming rig for a couple more years. I can't stand Ebay people who pull that crap. I sell quite a few parts and recently I had a "Buyers Remorse" Ebay buyer. God, are they annoying.... I had sold a Threadripper processor w/ motherboard for a really cheap price. Around 250 or so. So after I send it, I notice that the new Ryzen series 5 came out. Two and a half weeks later, I get a message from the purchaser stating that the "Sound wasn't working". Yes... The sound wasn't working..... I instantly knew this person had buyers remorse, "aka: LYING". I had tried working with him saying I will either send 30 bucks OR send him a brand new boxed Sound Blaster card which was around 40 bucks. But nope, he wanted his money back and opened a case. I have built 100's of computers and servers and have had only 1 computer about 10 years ago have a sound chip not working. I had stated there were no returns or refunds on the Ebay listing. But as lovely Ebay does, they said I had to take it back. But yes, you know who you are who pull this crap..... I wouldn't trust you in real life if I knew you.

Don't know if you remember my comment on the amd dual graphics video, but the computer I did it on was actually an acer aspire with the same chassis as this one. It's a different model with a motherboard that has an FM1 socket, and honestly, the performance has been great for what it is. Warframe runs at 60fps most of the time and Elite Dangerous at a fairly stable 35. This video was actually great for me once again because I've thought about swapping the mobo in it for a mini ITX one as well, just to get some modern hardware in there. Now I know it's going to fit in there for sure(ish). I would certainly be easier off just building a new machine but I happen to love the case amd size of the aspire.

One thing you could try with the old board is hooking it up to a "real" PSU. I've seen some of those boards behave weird combined with weak (often external) PSU, for example, one worked after I disconnected the DVD Drive because it didn't have the power for DVD and HDD. On Win 7, they're good enough to watch Streams or some other light stuff.
@Kraven833 жыл бұрын
Instead of 7, you should consider using 8.1 It still has extended support until 2023 and is generally better and more modern. The tiles/tablet menus can be disposed of and forgotten after the first boot and set-up. For a machine that goes on the internet, it's a no brainer really.

Reminds me of the E350 ITX board I impulse bought for $50. It's a passive affair with a truly compensatory heat sink attached to it. (Why I bought it.) Sadly I don't think it's designed to handle the relatively heavy stuff I threw at it, and I think I cooked it. Last time I tried to use it it was prone to crashing. However, this video convinced me to dust it back off and see if I could coax it back into existence. Granted, I'm pretty sure the $5 Optiplex 745 running a Pentium D and GT 710 outperforms it....

My understanding is that the AMD E2 CPU was designed for the Netbook/low-cost Notebook market. Dual-core, and *single-channel* memory. I think the Bobcat CPUs beat the Atoms of the era quite handily, but well, almost a decade on a low-end processor-to-begin-with isn't going to be kind.

@FrozenIce3 жыл бұрын
the AMD E2, especially the mobile variant, is honestly one of the slowest processors i've ever had to deal with. it took close to 5 minutes to boot, and barely ran more than 1 application without slowing down significantly. sure, the battery life was alright, but that's on paper. in reality, the time you'd be waiting to load ANY application cuts into that time anyways. even when idle with 0% usage on cpu and disk, it still took about 5-10 seconds just to open the control panel. P.S. the only possible bottleneck would be the memory, as it was about 4 GB of generic DDR3L (thank god it was dual channel though).

I've got an old SFF Dell I think it is. Core2Duo doing nothing if you would like it for testing. Add a 1050ti LP and I reckon it would be half decent. Haha.

That PC isn't much different from my old eMachines that I got from Walmart, even a decade ago they were really only meant for basic usage so they'd probably not be that great even for that nowadays. I still used said eMachines PC as recently as 2018 and it was struggling with web browsing.

Could you like try games from like 2000-2013 era for older/poopy hard ware?

It'd be appropriate for this computer since it's a 2005 era processor released in 2013.

The AMD E1 and E2 CPUs were mostly for netbooks and low powered systems used for office or school work, so gaming would be restricted to games from the early 2000s like GTA: San Andreas. And what's with opening a box with a pair of scissors?

I ended up with a scrap system in the same case, with a slightly less crappy CPU, but still very bad, but I like the overall form factor of the case. It would be almost perfect, if only there was proper ventilation holes and room for fans for the graphics card low-profile slot, it could work as a gaming PC (not with the original components mind you, lol)

I kinda like the look of that case. I wonder if a more powerful ryzen APU build could fit in there.

I’ve bought a gaming capable card for $10, r5 240. Wasn’t much, but a bit of overclocking gave it a bit of performance in a 775 system
