I went to Venice for a long weekend in November and there were just enough people so that I did not feel lonely. It's a wonderful place to walk, outside the tourist areas. There is an Arts university there and there were art exhibitions and short concerts everywhere.

Mose ?? Must it be so complicated! Dam walls with gates letting water into/out off the lake? Why this complicated structure ?

Part of the problem is that it is a lagoon, rather than a lake, and the scale of the project. There are significant financial and political issues as well.

I love the Mose project, lol. That was a brilliant solution and I'd love to hear the cause for criticism and what naysayers would propose instead. People love saying no without offering a better yes. Now I know there's a Jamaica Bay up there in NY. I wonder what it's like around that way... 🙂 It's a bit strange that I'm more excited at the prospect of visiting there than Venice itself, but either way, I do hope humanity can find and quickly implement solutions to these environmental issues.

Ha! Well Jamaica Bay is amazing for its wetlands but also not so amazing for the constant stream of jets in and out of JFK.

What are the arguments against Moses project?

There are numerous issues: cost, corruption, general distrust. One specific argument is that the high water in the lagoon also comes from runoff from the mainland during a sustained storm and thus Mose might trap water that could otherwise flow back into the Adriatic.
