Looking good Dean. A tip when using the rust treatment, tip out what you need into a separate pot or it will get contaminated and not work next time you come to use it.
@bobskinner4389 Жыл бұрын
Great Job Dean. However IMO I think you're letting yourself down by not painting the calipers red again. It looks like someone has done it before cheaply but on a car of this value I think thats fine. A quick rub down and a paint with a high temp brake caliper paint in red and away you go. Small job incomparison to the work on the rust proofing underneath.

Thanks for these videos. They're not only interesting, I'm learning a lot of stuff just by watching. And I like that you usually finish the cars to a standard you would expect for a car you'd keep, and if not you're honest about it.
@MrHuismeester Жыл бұрын
Maybe time consuming but you do learn a lot off stuff you never done before, so that is one good reason to restore this yellow canary. And you can be proud on yourself because it looking so much better now ! No more rust, great looking fenders and a nice rear axle ! So time consuming or not still a nice project and so nice to watch !! See you on the next video !

@silversurfer9846 Жыл бұрын
Hey Dean, nice work as always. To stop the rust, I recommend to use Owatrol Oil for first layer. It soaks in the rust and stabilizes it. On this layer put some grease from Mike Sanders. For inside all metalparts you could use Fluid Film. With these tree, it will never rust again.
@andrjuhin87 Жыл бұрын
When using rust converter try only clean the loose rust, but don't remove all of it. I know it sounds counter intuitive, but the rust converter needs rust in order to work properly and create that protection layer. Also you can get a spray version which will save you time ;) It might be quite useful for your future cars too!) All the best!

You could have slightly diluted the rust converter since water based and applied it with a hand garden spray bottle rather than use a brush upside down. Maybe enlarge and reposition the vice on your workbench - much easier than trying to hold that hub assembly on the floor. Keep going!

I fell foul of the exact same situation 18 months ago. Bought an Octavia L&K from Copart Whitburn with an engine issue. Car looked a proper one on photos, 2 owners & good history but it was an Aberdeen car where metal rusts for fun. As soon as it was lifted on truck & i looked underneath i knew straight away where it was going. Gave £650 with charges, drove home & weighed it straight in for scrap for £300. Not good business, but i would of got bogged down with it for months.
