I have been watching Shag videos for years trying to find the basic steps broken down so I understand. Some people prefer counting, “ 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5-6.” I prefer “triple step, triple step, rock step.” Thank you so much for the clear understanding. Nobody else has been clear.

I disagree. I have seen many people stand in one place just thinking in their heads 1,2 3 1, 2 3 back step. Counting that way works but there is a back and forth movement involved, as well. BTW, I think that the second "triple step" should be performed at the same plane as the starting plane because your rock step takes you too far away from each other.

I did Ballroom and Latin for years, and this guy has an excellent instructional style - very clear speech, and well explained. It's a good idea he had to indicate which side was left and which side right, because some of the ladies have a problem with telling left from right, especially in a split second.

This is a great instructional video but they could lose the bell bottoms because the movement of the fabric can be confusing for someone who does not know how to dance.

lol, a few people said this, but in all honesty, I think knowing the elements of dance would clear up more than tight pants. We could have danced naked and people would have asked us what we were thinking 💭... but sure tight pants, got it. Can’t wait for the pants comments next.

People perform shag routines in bellbottoms of the time so maybe it's just the attire of the genre. I agree with Alonzo Boschulte's post. IMO if you want to learn the dance and have any level of skill, those bellbottoms would not have bothered you a bit. As a student of the dance, I LISTEN to what they say in addition to watching what they do.

Christine Jones our legs are a trade secret. That’s we hide them... actually their chicken legs and you’d be so freaked out you wouldn’t be able to pay attention anyhow. Just kidding. Once you learn the elements of dance, pants cannot hide the moves. It would probably be confusing no matter what without that knowledge.

Too vague about the footwork for both men and ladies. It’s not enough to stay the triple steps are different You should EXPLAIN WHY the two triple steps are different. You should show the gentlemen’s and ladies footwork separately. Additionally, you don’t mention connection, hand hold, arm tension etc.
