Don julio and the cabrera are more suited for tourists and they are really crowded most of the time ... For pizza you can also go to "the cuartito" or "las cuartetas" too. For several other more local cuisine you might want to talk with locals because its the best way to avoid tourist traps ....

It’s true that Don Julio is mostly catering to tourists these days, but it’s more because of the price relative to the income of locals. It is still the best for a reason though and most upper middle to upper class people will go there on occasion whether it be for a celebratory meal or when hosting out of town guests.

I have been to Argentina twice, my first time was in 2019 and second vist in 2022. My wife is from Argentina/Buenos Aires, my first visit was much better than in 2022....with the exception of the Piqueteros on the street...2019 was excellent. The food in Argentina was excellent and was not expensive for us. I have been married to an Argentine lady for 29 years.....lovely people....but crazy at times in a good way. It took me a long time to visit Argentina.....my wife wanted to see the rest of the world before returning to Argentina.

Don Julio is overrated & no argentine person would sit outside in the chilly weather, DUH😂 I have visited BA & enjoy the basically non-touristy spots or better value for your dollar. For example, Parrilla Peña, Talas de Entrerriano, Ferroviario & Pobre Luis are my stops but I'm always looking for a neighborhood locals spot😅

The two places you have chosen for pizza are of one of the two main types of pizza we have at Buenos Aires. Both are of "media masa" type, which have a "bready" dough as a base. The other type is the pizza "a la piedra" with very thin and crispy in the borders dough. As in all Argentina's pizzas, in both you'll have plenty of cheese.

@gabrieljuan-alladio6774 y @JuliaGonsalves I agree that how you hold your utensils is important. And I want to compliment you, Julia, on your response: it show a humble heart & one open to better ways. Incidentally, I sometimes think I should offer etiquette / social graces courses (I'd need to first get retraining myself), with the aim being to use those skills - in the background, unobtrusively, not attracting any attention that might distract others. Oh, and your partner's knitted cap? Ditch it, hombre, when at table! Hope this is taken in the way I'm giving it with. Again, I like your spirit. And your videos are helping me learn about Buenos Aires: I may visit, with a special interest in it helping me get started on the carnivore (meat only) diet, particularly its subset lion (beef only) diet.

This was really good. Next time go to a bakery cafe where you try some media lunas, facturas, or some deserts. There’s more to Argentine food than steaks and empanadas. Also some guidelines on prices would be good. Which places are bargains and which are splurges?

With the inflation as it is in Argentina, prices are constantly rising. What I do to get an idea of pricing is to look for online photos of the menu, look at the most recent photo of the menu.
@granaferoz Жыл бұрын

You missed many, many good places. There are better parrillas than La Cabrera these days. It’s basically just for tourists now. Don Julio is still the best, but I’d put La Carnicería and Nuestro Secreto ahead of La Brigada for the more renowned ones. Plus, there are many excellent local parrillas where you can get better value for money. Also, it’s not correct that the outdoor tables at Don Julio are first come first serve. In the warmer months, they can also be reserved. For Argentine comfort food, you have to go to El Preferido de Palermo for an upscale experience and El Palermo Cantina for a more local experience. Also, I don’t know how you go to Buenos Aires and not eat Italian food. La Alacena is the best in my opinion. For seafood, La Mar is very good, but not as good as the original in Lima. Also, you don’t get meat there. In addition, if you want seafood, Crizia is excellent. La Choripaneria is good if you’re in San Telmo, but Alto Chori is better and the best are around the football stadiums. For other international cuisines besides Italian, El Niño Gordo and Gran Dabang are awesome. If you want something upscale, Chila is the best in my opinion (better experience than even Aramburu). For cocktail bars, La Florería Atlantico is cool, but it hasn’t been good for years. Tres Monos is much better these days and even Cochinchina has more interesting cocktails. For a rooftop cocktail bar, you should go to the Alvear Palace Hotel.

@@JuliaGonzalesTravels, Here’s an extended list of restaurants for upcoming trip: *Parrillas* 1. Don Julio- still the best; best to make reservations when they open three months in advance; more expensive than all the other parrillas, but we’ll worth it and still cheap compared to US prices, especially if you’re paying in dollars 2. La Carnicería- probably my current second favorite; excellent mollejas that are a little bit fancier than your average parrilla; sit at the bar if it’s not hot outside 3. El Ferroviario- real Porteño experience, as not many tourists go there; huge portions at very good prices; a bit out of the way and not fancy at all, as it is under a highway with the majority of the seating outside; good for large groups 4. Nuestro Secreto- parrilla of the Four Season; different style asado; beautiful garden seating; you pay Four Seasons prices so not cheap 5. La Brigada- wasn’t as good as when we were back in Jan, but still a good option, especially if you’re in San Telmo for the Sunday market; great atmosphere 5. A few others to consider if you can’t get into the other ones- La Cabrera, Parrilla Peña, El Pobre Luis *Argentinian (not asado) * 1. El Preferido de Palermo- best Milanesa Napolitana in my opinion; book a few weeks in advance 2. Chori- best choripán that’s not in front of a football stadium 3. Palermo Cantina- good local neighborhood spot in Palermo Hollywood; good and huge Milanesa; cool atmosphere; cheap 4. El Baqueano- more upscale and unique takes on classic Argentinian dishes 5. Peron Peron- old school atmosphere honoring Socialism in Latin America complete with typical dishes and the theme music; locations in Palermo Hollywood and San Telmo 6. La Choripaneria- good choripán option in the permanent San Telmo Market *Upscale* 1. Chila- my favorite fine dinning option in BA; nice atmosphere located in Puerto Madero so can walk along the water before or after dinner 2. Crizia- excellent upscale seafood restaurant; go all out and get the tasting menu with wine pairing 3. Elena- another restaurant in the Four Seasons; mostly Argentinian cuisine, but more upscale *Ethnic Cuisine (everything besides Argentinian) * 1. Niño Gordo- Argentinian-Asian fusion 2. La Alacena- my favorite Italian restaurant in a city full of Italian restaurants; good brunch option 3. Mishiguene- Argentinian-Israeli fusion; has become quite famous so need to book in advance 4. La Mar- offshoot of the original Gastón Acurio cebecheria in Lima; excellent ceviches, chaufas, etc. 5. Oviedo- Spanish restaurant good for seafood; nice atmosphere, but casual and good price 6. Gran Dabbang- excellent and innovative Argentinian-South Asia fusion in a very casual atmosphere; doesn’t take reservations so go when they open *Pizza* 1. La Mezzetta- best fugazzetta in BA; well worth the trek to Colegiales if you’re staying in the city center, but go between lunch and dinner (say 3:00-6:00) because there’s always a queue 2. Pizzería Güerrín- not as good as La Mezzetta in my opinion, but a good option if you’re just in the commercial center *Bars * 1. Tres Monos- world class cocktails and solid snacks in a bit of a dive bar atmosphere; gets crowded so go early or I think you can make a reservation for the new section that opened earlier this year; my favorite cocktail bar in BA 2. CoChinChina- newer cocktail bar with excellent drinks and solid Asian food; nice atmosphere 3. Florería Atlántico- internationally acclaimed cocktail bar, but not the same since the owner and cocktail guru has moved to the US and the previous head bartender went on to open Tres Monos; very cool concept though, but gets extremely crowded since it’s famous so you have to go early or book a table for food; can also wait at the bar next door, which is the same owner and has solid drinks,but not the same experience 4. Rooftop bar at the Alvear Palace Hotel- best for aperitivo when the sun is setting; book a table in advance 5. El Federal- old bar classic bar in San Telmo 6. Uptown- if you want a party, this is a good option; don’t know what the food is like, but you can book a table and eat there to avoid the usually long queues 7. Frank’s- just down the street from Uptown, this is the original speakeasy in BA if you want something more than a bar, but not a massive party *Cafes* 1. Cuervo- my local café in Palermo Hollywood; there is another location in Palermo Soho 2. Oli- another Palermo Hollywood cafe where I would recommend if you want pastries or lunch; excellent brunch option, but gets very busy 3. La Mulata- after Don Julio cafe just a block down Guatemala 4. Coffee Town- good option if you’re in San Telmo market and need a quick coffee 5. Atis- also in San Telmo, but a much nicer atmosphere if you want to have a longer relaxing coffee 6. If you’re interested in the classic Argentinian cafes for the atmosphere and don’t care so much about the coffee itself, you have El Petit Colon and Cafe Tortorni in the center as well as Montecarlo in Palermo Hollywood

@@oldpelican5181, I live in Buenos Aires. I have eaten at every reputable parilla in the city, many multiple times. Is it the best value for money? Considering the relatively high prices, of course not. However it is the best based purely on quality for a reason. @@oldpelican5181, I get excellent service there because I go quite often, but everyone should get excellent service. It’s not an excuse, but they are very busy obviously, I think they feel like they are serving tourists most of the time who they will never see again, and they are probably understaffed. If you are going for value for money, El Ferroviario is probably the best, but it’s a bit out of the way. La Carnicería and El Pobre Luis are also cheaper (not super cheap though) and in better neighborhoods. El Anchioita is very good too, but very pricey and a pain to get a reservation.
