Thank you for another great session. Nothing like getting cozy and tuning into an episode of Endurance Room after a long day. No doubt that a narrow, tall, roll top is the most effective 10L+ form factor to expand rucksack storage. We're really enjoying Varusteleka's CP10 Combat Pack. Offers really smart organization and quick access to internals - very appreciated when navigating airports. We're inspired to try your idea of adding receiving buckles to the CP10 for attaching to Jääkäri. Won't be as streamlined as the Hatka but the results may surprise.. Stay tuned! Be well. - Team Theta

Thanks very much. Your spot on, keeping the ruck narrow is ideal, especially in dense terrain. The CP10 looks like an awesome little bag, and very much inline with intent behind the hatka. It should pair up well. Looking forward to seeing it. Cheers Jess

Small packs, packed effectively, ready to grab and go, can be a great asset. With the extra bags (throw rope and tarp externall) I made to attach to my 18lt military tactical support backpack (similar in design to the Brandit US Cooper), it is surprising how much can be packed in these bags. Thanks for sharing Jess, stay warm.

Ninja suit, T shirt, waffle top and bottoms, light top, level 6 parka. . Good to go. You can also get wool insoles ( not booties, just insoles ) for any boots you own. Keeps the heat from leaving the bottoms of your feet. I use them in Danner's CW Rats and stay warm to about 5°F in Kansas. The Danners still breath so no wet feet. Temp adjustable per type of sock used. 🍻

👍👍👍 Hi Jess .. a good share .. thanks. Savotta / Särma, in my opinion make excellent gear. What is nice about it is the amount of 'customization' that one can apply to a setup. It can be considered pricey, yes. That said, one must weigh that up against, durability (for life if one wishes and treats the gear well) and being able to later adapt an initial 'base' purchase as and when required whilst still holding onto and using the initial purchase/s. Nice, the mention regarding hypothermia 👍, especially in the yo-yo above / below freezing dry / wet temperature range .. something some of us tend to forget or ignore. Having something 'extra' like a down puffy in the pack for 'just in case' is never a bad idea. Depending on the weather (dry / wet) and activity, a down puffy or one, even two lightweight fleece tops go into my pack .. sometimes also, some cheap rain pants. I like your little 'survival' gear setup. To digress if I may please 🙄😏. Back in the late 70's, I read an article penned by a military-associated (I think?) then well known and respected Southern African outdoor survival expert. For the life of me, I cannot now recall his name .. and I have looked! In it he said (to this effect), "The actual amount of gear required to survive in the bush is surprisingly little" and he then went onto explain himself. I 'think' that I still have that article, hard copy, on file somewhere (it was some time before internet 'instant gratification' 😏) .. unfortunately back in South Africa. Mors Kochanski's mantra, "The more you know, the less you need" comes to mind. Once again Jess, a good one. Am looking forward to your next. Take care, stay dry .. Tommy

Thanks very much, Tommy! I totally agree with you on Savotta. Some of the best gear I have had- simple, tough and it works! You really can get by with very little, not only gear, but food, sleep water. It’s definitely not optimal, but it is surprising how much we can accomplish when we have to. Mors was excellent. I read some of his books and picked up a good deal of tips for my area. Have a good one my friend. 🤝

Hi Jess .. It's me again 🙄 .. herewith an afterthought 😏. Speaking of the Bushbox .. great stoves, I've got the LF in Stainless Steel. Yes, minimalism and keeping it to the bare minimum and where every add-on takes something away (if you know what I mean). That said, an add-on, especially in winter, that fights way above it's weight, is a lightweight folding polished aluminium windscreen. Besides shielding from wind and containing the flame inside the Bushbox and up, the amount of radiant heat reflected back towards one is to be experienced to be appreciated. Has other uses too. Take care .. Tommy
@EnduranceRoom
@EnduranceRoom Жыл бұрын
Hey Tommy! Nice. I will have to check it out. I thought I remembered you saying you had a bushbox. Cool. It is a nice little stove. I have seen some guys doing firelays in them burning top down, with the theory that it gives a longer burn time, but then heard that Bushbox said this creates uneven heat and potential warping. What are your thoughts on this? Have a good one my friend 🤝
@thomasmusso1147
@thomasmusso1147 Жыл бұрын
@@EnduranceRoom Yep, the Bushbox to my knowledge is a 'twig / hobo stove', albeit a pricy one and not designed to contain a bonfire. i think that the basic idea is economy of fuel .. twigs and small branches foraged, broken or cut to size and then fed into the stove, maintaining a consistent controllable heat. I carry, in addition to what I forage in the forest or, in cases of extremely wet weather over an extended period, balcony-dried 'fingerlings' and such, and depending on what I'm going to nosh up, a small supply (12) of compressed Charcoal Briquettes. They weigh next to nothing and give a really nice low to medium heat for a reasonable length of time. Some may disagree, but there are Bushcrafters based in here in Western Europe who also are not too keen on a 'bonfire in a Bushbox'.
