The Jerven Fjellduken (Wolverine Mountain cloth, litterarily translated) is truly a magnificent piece of gear. I have used them since 1992 or there about, and have two different versions of it,.The Original one and the Hunter extreme, the latter is the old "short" iow 200 cm version and was bought around 1997/8. Jerven also has or had tent endings for it, so one of the large duks with the ends makes for a somewhat roomy, unfloored tent, which heats up nicely with a basic kerosene storm lamp.

Hi there Jess .. 👍👍👍 .. another good one .. thanks for sharing. A nice gear loadout .. simple but practical. Those Norden Countries make really awesome outdoor gear. Practical, robust .. perhaps not with the amount of 'bling' and 'comfort' associated with Products aimed at Western Markets but boy, they do what they were designed for and more. Work Gloves .. an idea. Fabric Loops and Brass Grommets as Attachment Points. I have attached one variation to my one pair and the other to the other pair. This allows me to hang my gloves on my belt or pack .. thus allowing for easy access AAWR. Closer to home .. I recently received my Savotta Jääkäri S Backpack from Varusteleka. It came with the two Side Pouches .. the '4L'(itre) Version and a Sternum Strap that I ordered with it. WOW I am impressed .. the Quality is to be seen to be believed! These guys know how to make stuff. Presently, I'm having a glorious time 😁 playing around with various setups .. including ways to get some of my current non-molle gear to fit. Have already had a test run down to our local Migros Supermarket to pick up a sizeable batch of groceries and .. 👍👍👍😊. The pack (sans side pockets) is also EU Air Travel Cabin Bag Size Compliant. I'm currently working on the Visa to travel to the UK 🙄😏 to visit my son and family and to finally see my first Grandchild for the first time (she will be turning 2 this year .. this Covid BS scuppered previous attempts 😖). The pack should make for ideal Cabin Baggage. I can store the 4L Side Pockets (loaded up with the usual Carry-On Suspects) inside the Pack during the flight and thereafter, when required, transfer them to the outside for the additional capacity. Back to the Norden Gear. Jess, yes it is expensive .. but! As you said, it'll last a lifetime and it more than meets it's design intent. My one 30 litre Day Pack (bought some years back from my local Military Surplus Store .. a 'Store Brand Name' and prematurely showing its age) .. that pack is already down in the basement into storage (I don't readily immediately discard stuff that I've replaced .. have to 'mull' over it a bit 😏. Perhaps, inter alia, if nobody else can get good use out of it, there could be bits and pieces thereon that may come in handy later). Knowing what I know now, I would have bought then, this Jääkäri Pack (with Accessories, at close to four times the price) instead of the Surplus Store Version, without blinking. Once again my friend, a good share .. always nice hearing from you. You and the Family .. take care .. Tommy

Last winter I slept outside in a Carinthia defence 4 bag on top of that Savotta ground mat in minus 25* temps with snow and was perfectly comfortable all night. No fire , no tarp , just in the bag on the mat. I was wearing Swazi fleece Bushpants and a varusteleka Sarma merino L2 long sleeve . I’d say I could’ve comfortably and safely gone down to 40 below with that setup by adding a base layer to my clothing. Living in Canada I’ll probably go try that in 40 below this winter !

Nice one man! I found a jaakari S, 2 large verticals, 2 medium horizontals on a second market here in Australia for really cheap (very rare). Stuck the two horizontals on the belt of my jaakari L and the verticals on the jaakari S. Tried to get the heaviest stuff into the belt cause the S isn't the best at carrying heavier loads with such thin straps. Hopefully gonna give it a spin this week.

Hi I wanted to ask you more about your load out. I live in more of an arid/hot area where I need to carry water rather than being about to stop and drink at water sources such as creeks and streams (Filtered water), so therefore my pack weight is much more than I would like it to be. Question have you ever modified a camel pack/hydration carrier using pouch attachments to it with all the mentioned equipment in your video? And if so what hydration pack would you feel would be best to do mods on? Cheers. Drew.
@EnduranceRoom
@EnduranceRoom Жыл бұрын
I have not used one before, as the area I am in the cold weather can freeze the hose. If I were to run one, there is a sleeve inside of the bag that will hold a water bladder. Ideally, you want the water or anything heavy close to the body to optimize carrying. I don’t think a dedicated carrier is necessary in a lot of instances.

G'day! Haven’t seen you in a while, but I’m glad I caught you today. I just picked up a Dutch surplus 3 day assault pack from Varusteleka (?) for $60can, and it’s really pretty awesome. Just needs some foam or something to give it a little rigidity. The folding German pad works well, but I’m sure there are better choices. It has plenty of straps, attachment points, awesome shoulder straps, even a hip belt that works to take the load odd the shoulders. I’d recommend it to any viewers who can’t afford the pack you have. Did you do a video, or do you know of a review on that German bag/bivy

2:51 Don't sit on it! You're gonna damage it. At 9:06 you can clearly see the inner loops have the most tension. If you fold it too many times in that one spot eventually it will break. 9:38 That stick should have a rolled up sock or a rag on the contact point with the tarp so you don't scratch it and eventually tear it. You shouldn't need it at all if you tied it up to the trunk of a sturdy enough tree. 11:42 If you throw cotton on the ground... wouldn't that soak up all the moisture? Especially if it rained in the last day or so. Maybe place a few garbage bags under it? They're thin enough to prevent that and weigh close to nothing.

Forgot to mention, you've got a good channel here. Also, I know I live under a rock, but I had never heard of Savotta before. Checked out their website, and sadly for my bank acct, I think I'm hooked. 😁

Thanks for the video. I checked out the FDF sleeping pad at Savotta, their site rates the R value at 2. Is that the same pad? I really like the idea of the ground cloth and sleep pad as a single unit.

It must be 2. Sorry, I was told it was 4. I think it is comfortable though
