It really is amazing. A few years ago I was contacted by a major and very known outdoor shoe brand. (It was through a friend of a friend). I had been on multiple camino pilgrim & wilderness hikes and they wanted me to "test" a new prototype. It was a boot and they would award me with 10 pairs of boots/shoes of my choice from their brand. I just had to walk the spanish camino frances hiking trail in the winter. So it was 28 days in snow, rain & cold conditions. They were quite serious. A guy from the company stood ready to take the boots as soon as I reached the goal in santiago and I had to sign an NDA to never mention the brand. With slight modifications the boots are still sold today and are quite popular.

Those side pokets are perfect for when you are given a random piece of kit and told "carry that somehow". PKM belt cans come to mind.

Thank you for this superior content. It is a pleasure to watch. Maybe bit long video(s) for some people (those are mostly like tiktok-adhd-people) but it just would not be possible to make shorter if you want to show all the details. And most of us want it that way, including me. Btw, it would be nice to see these bags and pouches used in the field also. I mean like endurance room-style (hope that I correctly typed that channel name). But he is using those stuff like in a bushcraft/hiking style so you can maybe do the city/urban version of that? And the last words.. Keep up the good work and spread the love of/for Savotta!
@Tim_Keys
@Tim_Keys 5 ай бұрын
You know, this may be one of the most inspiring comments I have received so far. Thank you dearly kind stranger, it truly means a lot. And as I would always recommend Endurance Room for items in use, your idea to split into the urban realm is something to think about. It may just be something I do in the future. My only concern being that I live in a tiny ancient town, so I can't get away with camera work in public without taking some hits to a decent reputation I have built here. And as for keeping up the love, that will always be easy with Savotta
@MrNomezOfficial
@MrNomezOfficial 5 ай бұрын
@@Tim_Keys If it is not (yet?) possible to shoot that kind of videos outdoors, maybe it can be sort of simulated indoors. Like how you pack your bags (what item goes where and why you prefer that). So like a example of usage. You have (for example) some way done that with those canteen bottles but I'd like (and maybe others too?) to see the example of daily usage. Just for the future ideas and stuff. And a touch of funny side to that too maybe. Like Savotta does on some of their marketing videos. My english is not so good within this side of vocabulary so I hope that I did not say anything wrong.. And I don't want to use the translator for a good reason.. 😄
@Tim_Keys
@Tim_Keys 5 ай бұрын
I will definitely give this some good thinking, it would be something that would give some cool ideas. Haha the inside of my Askare is beautiful, and really it would just be cool to show some people too. It's hard when you think something is pretty awesome but no one is around to show it to. And as for english don't worry at all, and I get your not wanting to use a translator. I live in Europe now and do the same thing as you. But I can say that your english is fantastic, I would not know there is any difficulty for you. If you ever post a comment in your language, I'm sure someone around here may even appreciate it, and I will try my best to answer it in that language if I can
@MrNomezOfficial
@MrNomezOfficial 5 ай бұрын
Ok, I'll do that. But there are surely words that may not be translated correctly or even at all. But let's fo it: Olis tosi hienoa joskus ehkä jopa törmätä maailmalla. Kuitenki samanhenkinen porukka / ihmiset on sellasia minkä kans tulee hyvin toimeen ja löytyy jutun juurta. Jos joskus eksyt Suomen maalle ni saa laittaa viestiä. Ehkä ostetaan koko Savotan katalogin kaikki tavarat 😄 Toki muutenkin jos asiaa tulee, joku askarruttaa niin saa kysyä. Aika monesta paikasta mut löytää samalla nimimerkillä mitä kuvassakin on tekstinä. Kiitos hyvistä videoista ja pyri pitämään taso yllä! Ps. If you find that text translated funny or something, I may be able to get more corrected one for you. There are few things written that may be hard to get translated to the same thing. Or meaning of that original one.

Haha google translate was pretty crazy, but I think I figured out everything that you said. I have found out with Finnish on this journey, voin yrittää, mutta todennäköisesti epäonnistun I definitely plan to come up to Finland some time, after talking to some really awesome people up there it would be a lot of fun to visit. Especially Varusteleka. I think it would be really cool to meet other people too, like a big Savotta nerd party I will keep the videos coming and I don't plan to change my style, don't worry :)

Hello there! I found this video through the recommendation of Endurance Room; a channel I truly enjoy following. And I wanted to say how much I appreciate not only your review of this pack, but the refreshingly different way you went about it. (ie. the deconstruction of its conventional form along with suggested adaptations.) Very nice! But I think what I found most appealing is the sheer gratitude with which you received the gift from Savotta. That was the first thing you expressed in this video. And it says a lot about you. Great review mate, appreciate the vid so early - I think I've probably watched through it 3 times already waiting for Varusteleka stock. I think I'm most excited about the removable shoulders! I'll be trying two mods with this: 1st) removing the shoulders and making a system to attach it to an external frame (Either my LK35 or Kilimanjaro 229 (Did this with the Jaakari S and loved it, couldn't do it with the M)). 2nd) idea coming from an old promo picture floating on varustelekas facebook somewhere of their old discontinued battle belt. They had taken the CP15, which has the same belt system, and threaded it behind the molle panels in the belt.. Bit pointless with a 15l pack if you ask me but could be quite handy on the Kahakka 25 with heavier loads! Backpack nerds? Not us...

Tim, those open-mouth, bellows/folding side pockets appear almost large enough to accept a pair of the *"Self Reliance Outfitter, Pathfinder, 4" diameter × 9.75 tall, 64oz. stainless steel water bottles?"* Perhaps, each pocket is large enough to accept one 64oz. water bottle nesting inside of its matching 48oz. stainless steel cup/pot along with a second water bottle without the cup? I already reached out to Varusteleka but they currently have no idea when either of the Hakakka packs will be available for purchase. *Thanks for the video and the review!*

*Tim, are the G-hook side compression straps on the 25-liter Hakakka pack sufficiently long enough to allow you to attach the 12-liter Hatka day pack to the Hakakka pack when those bellows/folding side pockets are stuffed completely full?* If so, then a 25-liter Hakakka pack is definitely at the top of my purchase list as soon as they are available for purchase. Savotta just sent out email notifications regarding both of the Kahakka packs. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for European and Canadian vendors to receive stock for either pack. *I really want to be able to piggyback my 12-liter Hatka day pack onto the front face of a 25-liter Kahakka pack in conjunction with the Askare hip pack on my waist. Those 3 packs with a judicious selection of pouches, stuff sacks, and internal organizational pouches is really all the volume (and weight) that my 70-year-old shoulders, back, and legs are capable of supporting and transporting.*

Hi there, great video, as always ; ), very detailed! Any chance to get the name/brand or any further info about the bottles you use to "test" the side pockets? Anyway, I'm a great fan of Savotta and have many packs and pouches, these last products seem to be really great. I've just got the Askare and it's great for a day in the woods, it's an essential pack but with plenty of room for anything you need.

I really enjoyed your review and videos! Nice work. This bag has my interest for sure. I plan on using it daily for my work, I am in the Canadian Coast Guard and my job has lots of remote sites/helicopter/boating/driving/ hiking in and out in all 4 seasons up here in the PNW in BC, while biking, then day hikes on the weekends and exploring with the family. Also winter use up in Northern BC and Alberta. Anyways this 25l seems to check so many boxes for me!!Average load would be 20 lbs and up to 40 plus lbs at some points. I am worried about how it may fit. How adjustable and comfortable have you found this pack? I am 6’2” 185 lbs so in your opinion do you think this pack would be too short? Thanks for the info! Cheers from Canada!
@Tim_Keys

Ahoy ye pirate of puddles! Sorry, the army wouldn't forgive me if I let that one go. For your size I believe it would fit just fine, I have seen some talk of bigger folks having no problems at all. As for the weight, 20 lbs will feel great. At that weight the padding actually forms to your body more and makes it even more comfortable than 10 lbs. But getting close to 40 lbs is something I have not done yet, I can't give you a solid answer there

Amazing and good detailed review. I have a question about how comfortable this backpack is with heavy loads. I am searching for a versatile backpack for many different situations to replace some other backpacks I have. Is the carryingsysthem good enough for wearing the backpack for some hours with heavyer load? I know about the carrying system of the jääkäri M but i like the versatility of the kahakka much more, especially for urban uses.
@Tim_Keys

Urban and day use, one or two night use, is absolutely ideal. And I have found it more comfortable with heavier loads as the padding will form into your body better.

Since the pockets on the sides are 3 liters (at least according to your demonstration), this actually may be more like a 31 liter pack. So which would you recommend more for a 2-day setup, this pack or the Jääkäri M?
@Tim_Keys
@Tim_Keys 2 ай бұрын
Yes 31 is more correct, but I think the open top and folding design keeps it from being officially counted. Choice between Jääkäri M and Kahakka 25? It depends on how far you travel and how much weight. If you are just going a short walk from the car to a campsite with light to medium weight, Kahakka. If you are traveling over terrain or going longer distance, or with heavier weight, Jääkäri

I'm leaning towards the kahakka25 mostly because it's new and improved. Do i really need the slightly larger jakarri M with that beautiful side zip? The jakkari hip belt is something i might never use and might be annoying. Decisions decisions 🤔 Does it even matter for a scrawny city boy like me? @@DanGibManI've got the kahakka 25, and i'd say it's a very nice hybrid for both. It has everything you need and nothing more, with ability to shrink it down to your casual schoolbag size by pulling the straps tight. Jääkäri M is not only bit too high for city casual, it relies on you attaching stuff to the 1001 strap possibilities, which you wouldnt in city. Then theres särmä, cheaper smaller bag especially for city, which isnt too good for hiking storage but for city, why not.
