Hi Tim, have you tried carrying kahakka 15 with askare on your back? I mean wearing askare as a fanny pack on my waist and then carrying a kahakka on my back. But I don't know if the bottom of the kahakka will press down on the askare if I wear it like this, and therefore cause weight
@mistrerjack5 күн бұрын
The khakka 15 ia such a workhorse. I travel with it with a week worth of clothing and stuff when i attach my hatka 12 to it and its perfect. I also can go on 2 day hikes with it and take it for trail maintenance and attach my chainsaw to it. I love it.

Gidday Tim, so what quality is the stitching on the bags? Is it as well built as say 5.11 or maxpedition packs.
@Tim_Keys4 күн бұрын
Howdy friend, the stitching you find here is absolutely top notch. They actually found a lot of times they are wasting time with some of the over-binding they do with webbing on top of some stitching. Even the stitching without additional binding survives being issued to dozens of Finnish conscripts over decades, which is higher level than what I saw in the US Army. And the new stuff is even better

In a perfect world we would have maybe seen the pack by end of 2024, but there was always an explicit warning it could take into 2025 depending on circumstances. A big circumstance being war in Europe, and while we wait a bit longer for a camping bag we can watch a ton of Medic Packs and other gear hitting the frontline. I don't know anything about the upcoming packs yet, I have not asked and I assume if I was supposed to know someone would tell me

Greetings from Denmark. Thank you for a great and detailed overview, as always :) This is like the (VT) CRP15 with an added extra 3L zip pocket? Seems like the perfect edc/daypack IMO. Pleased to see you can tuck that bottom room away when not needed. It seems though that the buckles are on the bottom, when doing so? Or can you adjust the position of them?
@Tim_Keys15 күн бұрын
Thank you for the kindness :) and yes you are exactly right, aside from a few other major additions it can be viewed as a CP15 with a big butt. And you do have some material to play with when it's all folded up so you can easily find a million ways to keep things tucked away and protected

In the world of combat jobs we have to laugh about everything. Smiley faces and wieners drawn everywhere, jokes all the time, a separation of the seriousness of it all from your mental state. Because if you crack, you also have a gun, and that's not a super good combo

@Tim_Keys sure. but if they had direct contracts, they wouldn't need marketing. so it's more likely that the majority of these will go to some tacticool bros. Varusteleka likes to present themselves wacky, and it can be out of touch sometimes.

I've talked to a lot of folks up there, and I really think they are absolutely genuine just without a filter. It's not that they are trying too hard in one direction, it's that they gave up in the suits and ties direction
@OverCowboy22 күн бұрын
@@Tim_Keys I've been their customer for a long time and I'm for the most part pleased with their products, and they have excellent service. Yet I've been alienated from them because of their PR moves. maybe it's just me, but I don't like being overly positive about the product I buy and the people I buy from. especially if I a) rely on their goods and b) on a budget. right now I'm moving through the snow in the boots I bought from them and with a savotta backpack and I feel confident. but when I see they ponder a lot with their product I feel that the priority is to sell it, not to install it as a tool, and that makes me uncomfortable with it. or maybe I just don't like the machismo attitude and prefer clean to-the-point message
@Tim_Keys22 күн бұрын
I think I heard it best when someone up there said that the biggest fight is not selling the product, it is getting the customer to buy the product from THEM. It's a tough fight in today's world to keep people's attention but they pull it off. And I understand everything you say about wanting something simpler, and it very well may shift that way. Even by the redesign of the website you can see they're getting older just like all of us but they're still having fun. And one thing you see once you get behind the scenes of youtube, is a lot of folks like to live vicariously through what they see, who otherwise wouldn't have a club to be in or would find one that says they're some sigma alpha top werewolf or whatever. It's a weird game but I'm getting to understand it more. Even my little club I built over the past year, I know I can't give it up now because a few folks in there I know just need somewhere to be

I still have a decent amount of nice black compost in the far corner I plan to use, planting some hardy and low maintenance but beautiful scenery. In that corner by the birch I'm thinking a fruit tree or two, as it's common here for people to grab a snack along fencelines in the warmer months

I wholeheartedly agree, but the big one out back had a huge water well at the base and was also overhanging the building by quite a lot, the risk was very high. As for the birch, it was dead and tall right next to a children's park, every storm brought down more of the top branches. The other trees I had no issue with, and some I can't find an excuse for. If I was there it would have been different.

If you don’t mind me asking, what brand is that buckle box? I’ve been looking to get one since, similar to you, over the years I have amassed an obscene amount of split buckles, triglides, ladder locks, and a ton more types of pack hardware. I’ve been looking on Amazon, but it’s hard to tell from only the pics and descriptions whether or not the individual compartments are big enough. Yours looks to be just about what I would need. Thanks

Idk if you sew or not, but if you don't, then I reccomend getting into it. Find yourself a walking foot sewing machine (i have a juki 1541s). I can tell you will enjoy the hell out of it making and modifying packs/pouches etc. The walking foot machines can sew all the thick stuff like these packs. It may give problems with thin materials like lightweight nylon etc, where you could get a cheap home machine to do those materials. Thanks for the vid!

I just came back to this review a second time after watching it a couple of months earlier. Back then I thought while this is a cool bag I don't really have a use for it. But now I think I'll maybe get one of these as an EDC bag to replace my older TT Patrol Pack MkII. I also got the Hatka in the meantime and I love the way it clips on to the Kahakka. I wonder how the rubberized inside of those packs will stand the test of time and after how many years it will start to come off. Anyway, thanks for the in depth look at this pack!

@Tim_KeysАй бұрын
That is a problem between US and EU size measures, and where an entity says your "hips" exactly are. I wear an American jeans size 30 in summer and 32 in winter when I get a bit fatter. The Savotta 80-90 belt is perfect for me at an average 85 cm waist. Please don't ask me how that rocket surgery works out, but you need one size up.

The 25mm is the sizing workhorse here, you don't want that 40mm touching the end because you would lose all adjustability downward in size

does this backpack have waterproof coating?
@Tim_KeysАй бұрын
There is a PU coating along the inside of the material. It can handle the first rain but you need a rain cover after a bit, unless your stuff is in secondary dry bags. The weak point as with anything is the seam, these are not taped but that can be done easy at home with some GearAid stuff. Still maybe not 100% water PROOF but a damn high level of resistance
