The albums that Savoy Brown cut with Chris Youlden on vocals are among the best British blues ock lp's ever recorded. Even now, 40 plus years after last seeing them live, I'm still blown away by how great this incarnation of the band was. "Train to Nowhere" is one of Youlden's masterpieces.

Chris is still alive and singing, you probably can find a live cut by him on youtube. The Savoy Brown management, really Harry Simmonds, kept driving band members away. Harry was the main reason why so many band members left. I also wonder what Foghat would've sounded like had Chris left and formed the band with Lonesome Dave, Tone Stevens and Roger Earle.
@jaycharlesjohnson63693 жыл бұрын
@@1blastman Thanks for the background info, I always assumed the constant turnover in Savoy Brown was due to Kim Simmonds ego, or that he was difficult to get along with, but I imagine he knew what Harry Simmonds (relation?) was doing and didn't object. I knew Chris is still with us as I did see something fairly recent from him (like from the last 3-4 years) on KZbin, which is probably what you are referring to. I am still mystified after all the great songs he wrote, the well ran dry in his solo career with LIttle Cog In A Big Wheel about the best he could come up with.

Everything about it is awesome: the muted horns, the lyrics, the vocal! I remember when it came out, I was 23; many years later I dated one of them and I remember the details but not the name, sorry… A real classic, I love trains and just got off a long distance train yesterday, I guess that's what made me think of it, I actually passed out and missed my stop, first time I've ever done that, I was super exhausted and I'm old now. Three men were shaking me and yelling, thank God or I would've gone all the way to Canada at that rate, of course Canada would've been in a better place but that's another story… I loved this song for 47 years now, thank you so much for sharing our memories! Update: out of the blue I wanted to hear this song a few days ago and I started thinking about Kim who I dated around 1990. When he came up to me he said do you know who Savoy Brown is? Of course I knew, I loved this song. I started thinking about him and decided to look him up and discovered he died about a month ago. From the other side he was trying to contact me. I apologized For blowing him off because I had a boyfriend then. He said “it’s OK I was kind of a jerk then. But I am still alive. I’m still a live wire. There were plenty of girls then, but You were the one that got away.” Oh I am crying because I also met Jeff Beck who died about two weeks ago. Then David Crosby who I met before he was in the birds, because I used to live in his cousins house. Our generation is dropping like flies😢. Now there is a memorial for my sister that I will miss
