this is so true, my stepdad never had a birthday party thrown for him in the 40+ years he’s lived. of course maybe 1 or 2 when he was a child but after that, nothing. my mom decided to throw a big birthday party for him with a bunch of family coming and celebrating. it was one of the best memorable days i can remember with all of them. that was the last birthday he’d ever experience, im just grateful we got to do that for him before his passing. the clean up after the party was horrendous, i learned a valuable lesson that day - don’t throw house parties at your home 🥲

It's actually not about being a manly cake, or something that is traditionally male. I would be happy with any cake, even one bought in the supermarket, because, well, most men don't get a lot of heartfelt presents or cakes or anything, not even compliments. I've only ever gotten cakes from my family so far. So, I would be happy with any birthday cake, but if you made it yourself, that would be extremely special. I would be very happy. I'd start with putting away your preconceptions of what "grown men" want and just ask. But, you know. That's kind of hard to do.

@@ZeroNumerous you’ve obviously never taken a cake order from someone who has no idea what to order for someone else. There is a standard list of questions to ask when taking a cake order, but you would be surprised how many people just have no idea where to start when designing a cake. It’s up to the person taking the order to try and guide them through this process. The struggle we are referring to is that for women/girls it’s every easy to add some fancy piping and/or flowers and make it very feminine. It’s harder to make a cake look masculine, and I know for myself I always want to go beyond slapping on some polka dots or vertical stripes. Now if someone comes in with an idea, picture, theme, of course those are a no brainer. But there are a lot of people who try to order something but have no idea at all what they want but say no to every suggestion offered.

The sad thing I think is the women/men in these men’s lives ordering their cake and not even knowing what they really want. I can definitely imagine how that would make your day harder with orders. Those clients are so tough!! I’m a hairdresser myself and it’s always insane when I had someone sit in my chair and have no idea what they wanted. Or they would tell me “I want a completely fresh new look but I don’t want any color and you can’t take off more than a 1/2inch”.

To be fair, as a woman, I also am more focused on eating it than looking at it. I’m currently pregnant with baby #3 and cake has been my craving. Get me a piece of cake and a corner and I’m a happy camper. Something tells me that many men are the same ♥️

It’s because it’s hard to do certain designs with regular icing. But for this cake icing would be better because you can blend it better. Especially for the wood part.
