I hate having to play these games with the supermarkets. These games they are playing leave out a whole segment of the truly poor the people that need the reductions the most. They don't have cell phones, don't understand aps, the ones we have in the U.S. you have to link your bank to. Ibotta is one that gives you cash back which is all well and good if you give another company access to your account. I already have two bank accounts due to selling online, one for online selling and one personal, the bank accounts are not linked, now will I need another one just to have a couple of dollars go in a month. I know the corporations are gleaming information about us off of every usage but, really how much do they need? I have just gotten so ticked off that I'm not shopping as much as I did before. We have changed the way we are eating and what we are eating. The government is fibbing saying the economy is getting better and yet the prices in the stores don't reflect that.

We don’t have a smart phone nor do we pay our bills online. We refuse to give our bank numbers out. So, we shop the sales, use the online coupons that don’t need a phone and look for the markdowns. And, we pay more, sometimes. That’s just how it is. We ALL can’t get EVERY deal out there. Plus, my husband and i will sit in line at the food pantries and get food for people who can’t go. Sometimes, when i see a huge markdown on something, i’ll grab what i can and pass it around to several people who i know can use it. I’ll bake brownies and drop a plate on porches. Community is important, too.

Everyone poor person can get a smartphone for free or as low as $5 a month in the US. The major savings/rebate apps allow you to link the app to your store savings card, it becomes automatic. Easy-peasy! I live in the USA in the 5th most expensive city in the US. There is an abundance of stores vs areas that are food deserts and I have a car. I can easily feed a family of 4 varied nutrient dense food (meat everyday) for $55-$60 a week. I rarely use Ibotta but pic receipts for Fetch and Receipt Hog. I get maybe $150-$200 back a year. Though I shop 2-4 stores a week, grocery shopping only takes 1hr a week. I take advantage of sales and keep a pantry of 3-4 months to take advantage of the lowest prices. Ex. This week chicken quarters $0.59lb, this sale happens every 3-4 months. My goal is to spend $2-$4 a meal. Breakfast $1.75, Lunch $2, Dinner $2.50-$4. My total cost is $6.25-$7.75 a day. Ex. Dinner Meat $0.75-$1, carbs $0.50-$1, vegetables $1-$1.25=$22.25-$3.25. Fruit with breakfast and snack. Meat - chicken $0.59lb, ham $0.62lb, $turkey $0.63lb, hamburger $2-$3lb, fish $3lb.

Agreed. I have found over the last two years I do better without all that. In the long run my information is more important. Cooking from scratch at home and stocking up everything.. you don’t miss those apps and games. And you’re right about the cell phones etc and leaving some out (even with a cell, it’s still tough) here in the U.S. I used to love the coupons and apps.. now I love the peace and free time and feeling more secure with privacy.

I got VERY lucky when I found laundry liquid in a super deeply discounted clearance area in Walmart recently and stocked up. I found 2 bottles of clean cult for $1 and 10 cents each in refill size along with the glass storage bottle also for $1 each- if bought for regular price they could have been as high as $9/carton. I also found hex detergent for $1/bottle in the same section and bought 2! I have enough laundry liquid for the next probably 18 months for less than $5!

I love that you get money back on your store card! I looked into a few "cash back" programs here in the US, but the discounts were always for items that i would never purchase anyway! I started using a couple of " receipt picture" apps and at least can get gift cards once I've submitted enough receipts. Every little bit helps!

Some great tips and bargains there Jane, especially the meat, which as we all know, is very expensive now. I get my discounts and freebies through the supermarket apps. I signed up to more of them after watching one of your previous videos about store apps. Iceland has 10% discount for over 6O's on Tuesdays, which is handy to know when stocking up the freezer. I will however pay more attention to receipts now. Thanks to you both for sharing this useful information. 🤗

I tried something new. I went into a grocery store and looked around. I bought a few bargains I needed. But the shock was it was 10% senior discount day which was not listed anywhere. A lady in front of me in line told me she plans her whole months meat and major expensive items and then shop that day. She showed me her receipt. She saved $40.00. In. US that’s a nice savings.

Does everyone shopping at Kroger in the U.S. know about the $1 red mesh bag produce deals? When they put out fresh produce, they bag up the older stuff into $1 bags and often it's a great deal! Often 1/4 of what you would pay otherwise. Just get there early in the day!

I usually turn down the till receipt in SuperU, I have a loyalty card so they email it to me (mind you, the thing about doing without the receipts to save the scrap of paper when there's so much waste and excess packaging anyway seems like straining at a gnat). However, I do still get the paper vouchers, if they don't give those to you that's their oversight I imagine and you should ask for them. I only really find the fruit and veg one worthwhile, the others always have too high a minimum spend on stuff I wouldn't really buy otherwise. My friend who does most of her shopping in the local Carrefour Contact has been overcharged and when she's gone back she's been told it's her responsibility to check at the time, (as I have been in Lidl in the past) and I don't know how you're supposed to do that if you don't take your receipt!

My supermarket spending is now so low I don't get a lot of vouchers back but I mainly use Tesco as it gives me the most back. So far since 1st Jan I've accumulated £4.50 of vouchers plus I get Clubcard prices on certain items. I also use my M&S credit card to pay for everything (food, vet, fuel etc) as I get vouchers back. I pay off my bill every month. Each quarter I get between £5 and £10 back to spend in M&S. I treat looking for supermarket bargains as one of my hobbies as it takes time and effort to save money 🙂

I wait til Target runs deals then shop. Here in my area people aren’t doing a lot of pick up or click and collect so Target offers $15 off your grocery order if you use pickup. They also run deals where if you buy $50 of household goods they’ll send you a $15 e gift card (and no they don’t raise the prices on the items. Last time the household goods were all 15% off😮). If you order in the app you get rewards points (knocks off a buck or two) and they let you use manufacturers coupons (last time I got $2 off my toilet paper)

I always get a receipt just in case the store has made an error. I have a local shopping center (mall) which has two grocery stores that I visit and both have a store card and or memberships (either free or paid for versions to get extra discounts or freebies) I have one paid for membership (cards) and two free ones to the stores. Both of these grocery stores have cash back if you hit 2000 points which equals to $10 back or you can save up the cash for a larger amount.

I use my supermarket loyalty cards all the time, I’m not loyal to any particular store I buy what’s on offer at multiple stores like yourself, I remember years ago the b.o.g.o.f offers now they’ve changed them to 4 for 3 but these offers still give a good saving, being retired gives us more time to hunt the bargains down, and we need to, food prices are eye watering! great tip about asking for the receipt, but then savvy shoppers do that to check prices are being rung correctly through the till because we know errors occur usually in the supermarkets favour.

Good evening. You did really well. I like how various food you pick up when you shop. Well,I think we all know the promo items in advance. They distribute even the paper catalogue for next weeks. So everybody knows. And for some items you really have to be ultra fast to get it. Gone literally for hours, crazy. I like how you are not paranoid to register and use those cards. Many people are freaking out about data selling and etc,but if you ask me,those who deal with data already know all about everyone anyway, got in in another way. However, back to the food- great shopping- thoughtful. 3 free t.paper packs with points, super. The % off from the receipt-who wouldn't use it and why not?!
