Saw Man Begging For Change So We Booked Him A Hotel

Aleks is a roughsleeper and has been homeless in Soho, London. We saw him begging for change to get a chance to stay in a Hostel so we decided to get him into a nice hotel nearby for the night. Aleks was really grateful for everyone that donated money towards The Unseen homeless. We also gave him a £25 giftcard for his local supermarket.

Homelessness is a growing issue for the UK with more than 300,000 people living on the streets. Many of these people don't even make it onto the official figures.
The Unseen is an organisation we set up to give Homeless people a platform to have their stories and their struggles heard. We also want everyday people to have an opportunity to understand what leads a person into being Homeless. We at the The Unseen believe that everybody has a responsibility to help the unfortunate.
We want employers and regular people to support the homeless towards getting back into work and off the streets.
We hope their stories can touch the hearts of many.

Yes hotels in London are not cheap. There are some cheaper hotels to be honest but it depends on which location we are in and if we have enough time on the day to take the homeless person to a further away hotel that may be cheaper. Yes the hotel room had a shower too and he managed to get his other homeless friend to also stay for the night in the room.

Thing is this guy will get of Street work n get a place n better himself alot of English donnys rely on handouts to help them u gta want it urself n get urself out the system don't help

I now checked. I had to spend on a dormatory which may not much be private but could let someone have a bed for close to 1 week. Next time if I donate such a sum we should try an option of a dormatory... One could have a 6 days rest at a dormatory for 100GBP... I am so sorry that I did not know there was such an option... The Z hotel was really expensive...

Z hotel was £80 for the night. Hostels are much cheaper at around £20 a night but they are usually really bad quality with lots of drug users there and also are not always local.

Thank you for the compliment and the advice too. We will try to look for cheaper accomodation next time but it's not so straightforward when we're out interviewing homeless people because many times we are in a location where there isn't any cheap accomodation nearby and the other issue is that we may also be in a rush sometimes because of family commitments. We don't live in the areas that we visit so at times we may be heading home for the evening and on the way we come across a homeless person and we are already running late to get home and then to search for cheap accomodation on top of that and to take the homeless person there - it becomes very time consuming sometimes. But that being said we will continue to do the best we can and will search for backpackers traveller hostels next time. I wasnt aware of those to be honest.
