6:00 To give more context for this trap (and the movie generally) Before Saw 3D became Saw 3D, it was intended to be two separate (not 3D) films. Saw: The Final Chapter, Parts 1 and 2. What was supposed to happen was, after the shot of Dina hanging gutted, the camera cuts to the chaos of the crowd panicking. Stoically, standing in the back, was John. He would then utter something along the lines of, “If they didn’t know who I was before, they most certainly will now.” It was meant to be Jigsaw’s ‘coming out party’ to the public at large. The twist from this scene would come back in the final act, during the Dr. Gordon montage, where after John says that line, Gordon steps up next to him as another stoic observer. This was John showing his work to Gordon for the first time, much like how he initiated Hoffman. And after Hoffman passed out from Gordon’s syringe, the other two Pigheads would unmask as Brad and Ryan- the survivors of the Love Triangle game in question. All that got royally fucked up when the producers cancelled the plan of eight movies, dropped it to seven, and forced the merger of both scripts into one. The Love Triangle trap became completely pointless and disconnected from everything. Then slapping the hokey 3D gimmick on top, all contributed to the mess that Saw VII came out to be. Should’ve been a much different finale for that era of the franchise.

Also, the 'victims' just felt so awful so no reason. It was pointed out several times how a lot of the film felt sexist for no reason, especially the first kill making no sense why her shirt was open? like wtf. The last victim (Joyce) was killed just to be killed. Jigsaw never make the iron bull for a rando. It just didnt feel like a Saw film at all. The tiny nightie. The globs of lipgloss. And then almost every other scene where a woman dies is just like that too? It's unilaterally gratuitous in a way legitimately none of the other movies are, it's so frustrating. I also prefer to pretend I don't see it

some ppl have already pointed out in the comments how Saw 3D was originally supposed to be two movies, but to add to this, it was also supposed to be revealed that Joyce actually knew Bobby was lying about being a survivor but she was pretending to be a loving wife cause she was a gold digger that just wanted his money lol. i think this would've fit in with the whole theme of "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" since she would've been a combo of all three, and arguably the "worst" liar of them all, so her getting a brutal death makes more sense. it would've still been sexist tho lmao why are all the women bad ppl 😭

babe wake up new dalt saw analysis video dropped i'm so glad you called out the bizarre sexism of this movie, the traps felt so unbalanced gender-wise & the nature of the female characters' traps/deaths were just so much more exploitive than the male characters'. I realllllly wish they had given this franchise the chance to end it with the two movies it was initially planned to be, but money talks louder than artists and writers as always lol. on the bright side, this is the movie that really brought me around to understanding and enjoying Hoffman & not expecting him to be as nuanced as John or Amanda, and the reason I can rewatch the latter half of the franchise with enjoyment. If this movie didn't exist & we never got to see Hoffman go Hoffmaninator Mode, I doubt I would like him as much as what he is, as you put it -- a campy slasher villain. it's funny how much i hated hoffman during my first saw watchthrough, and how sad i was to see him die almost as SOON as i started to actually enjoy him bahaha. something something epic bad luck. I've always hated that first trap and still do for reasons that I'm sure I don't need to explain, but I adore the metanarrative framework you put it in! I feel a little silly for not thinking about it myself. Honestly I wish the Hoffman and game story’s were separate movies. Bobby’s game story taking place ather Saw 2, The Hoffman vs Jill being the ending to the franchise. I think there was a better way for Gordon to be revealed as an apprentice, have it goes with John give him the fake leg, Gordon couldn’t find his wife and daughter so John gave him the choice to work with him, fixing some pet peeves would be that John asked Gordon if Lin would be good for his surgery and Gordon reply’s that she would be perfect as he seen her work around the hospital, and when Gordon comes in the restroom he has the same Billy Hoffman left to burn in the building and Billy laughs as Gordon Says GAME OVER.

I really do hate how in this film for some reason if the victim fails his trap some other person dies, when that just feels so wrong. It's true that in other movies there would be other people involved that the victim in question had to safe, but generally speaking the final consequence would be your own death because that's the whole point of the traps, to make people appreciate their lives and pay for their wrongs (except maybe with Jeff's daughter? But that was kind of weird too ngl). So Joyce dying just because her husband was a liar is just so mean-spirited, all she ever did was support a person she thought was being honest. It's so unfair and sadly only serves to add onto the weird misogyny this movie has that you yourself mentioned.

@@ripdaltI can personally see this to an extent, but when you consider it is one movie in a 7 movie franchise, and one of those movies happens to be a bit more mean to the women. Most test subjects in the other movies were men. Men being portrayed as corrupt cops, rapists, murderers, abusers etc but it never becomes a thing of men being portrayed in a bad light. I do agree that some parts of the movie felt mean spirited, but it’s a horror movie, and people go as far to say it’s “misogynistic” Also there is a slight irony in the fact one of the leading actors of saw 3d is Betsy Russel…who, despite being a very nice person off camera, is not a good actress and only had the role cos she was engaged to Mark Burg and was friends with the producers. So there is room to be made that her securing a leading is quite unfair
@laura611895 ай бұрын
One of the main points of the movie having strange misogynistic undertones is that the nudity in Saw was always done mostly in a respectful manner or only when it's necessary for a trap. It was a breath of fresh air among horror movies. Saw 3D flaunts some the women actors to an uncomfortable level. Dina has to be strapped between her breasts for some weird reason and Jill's dream sequence is anotner can of worms. Nudity and "eye-candy" in horror movies can be done tastefully but Saw 3D was not it. You could almost think that it's a start of a porn parody considering how it's presented and acted out.
@davidfairweather33015 ай бұрын
@@laura61189 first saw movie…guy was locked in a room in his boxers and smeared with flammable jelly. If it was a woman you’d say it’s using women as props, but if it’s a man there’s no issue. Ivan in saw 4 was strapped to a bed wearing a tank top and boxers/shorts. Again if it was a woman it would be seen as misogynistic and objectifying women, but if it’s a man it’s not sexualised. I do see your point, but there is definitely a lower threshold for women to be viewed as being objectified, whereas men being portrayed in a bad light isn’t even considered. It’s certainly not as bad as people make out. In saw 3, a woman was tied up in a freezer completely naked whilst water was sprayed on her. People didn’t make a big deal out of it cos it was only one example, but that seems far worse than anything in saw 3d

9:51 That joke killed me. As for this one… ouch it’s painful to watch. What do I actually like about this one? Well actually it’s two aspects… The first is Hoffman’s Terminator/Michael Myers style rampage through the precinct. It’s over the top and ridiculous, but it sure is very entertaining to watch, and of course I won’t knock watching Hoffman be a total badass, this was where the film redefined him as the Michael Myers of Saw. Sure, he would put you in a trap, but if you got in his way when you weren’t a target, he would just kill you there. Also, as I always found Gibson annoying, I laugh hysterically at his death scene. Jill’s death is brutal and it was kind of cool to finally see what the Reverse Bear Trap would do if the target failed. The other strong point is what little we saw of Dr. Gordon. I really liked what they did with him, it just needed more explanation. The glaring problem to me is when they combined the two scripts, they mainly used the one for the seventh entry and only used bits from the eighth one, and it was the eighth one that was supposes to full explain Dr. Gordon. I think it would have been a better idea to switch it around, where they ditched most of what they used for the seventh film’s script and mainly used the one for the eighth film, as then we would have both had a more complete film and likely avoided the BS that was in this film like Bobby’s game, which on paper is fine but was horribly executed to me, or the unecessary 3D gimick. Hoffman vs Jill to me did work, it was just constantly interrupted by a lackluster trap plot. Seeing Hoffman go fully crazy after Jill’s failed attempt at killing him was awesome. Perhaps the biggest missed opportunity other than fully explaning Gordon was what they did to Jill. At the end of Saw 6, the way she got Hoffman made it seem like she was as crafty as him, and the next one would be not a “cat & mouse game,” but a “cat vs cat” scenario similar to Laurie Strode vs Michael Myers. But instead… she does nothing, becomes helpless, as if she just got lucky once and that’s it, age even gets a bit annoying at times. This one was easily the weakest entry in the series, this was where the series went downhill, and thankfully Saw X happened to finally get the series going once again. Pretty much everything else wrong with Saw 7 was said in the video. Well done.

You went over this in the beginning of the video but I want to hammer how always it was funny that Saw 3D being crushed from two movies to one movie was due to Saw 6 worse box office (when it's basically the best movie in franchise) which is due to Saw 5 being not well-received so people just assumed Saw 6 would be more of the same or even worse. Personally, I am kind of sad because I believe that Saw 3D being broken into movies as was originally planned would have allowed for more space to Lawrence coming back and more depth to everything that happened in between, and it will always be biggest what-if is to see the movie(s) as they were planned
@davidfairweather33015 ай бұрын
One thing that really didn’t help Saw 3D is the perfomance of Betsy Russel (Jill) and Gibson (Chad donella) - They we’re so bad and dragged the movie down so hard. The fact we had such great minor performances across the franchise; then you had those two in leading roles, and then both of them in a room together was just a disaster
@mindmomo5 ай бұрын
@@davidfairweather3301 that's a fact for sure and in defense of Jill she was cast as John's wife in Saw 3 as just a cameo during his hallucinations bc she was the wife of one of the producers at the time (can't remember the name) and that was it. Ofc when Saw 4 came around and was a continuation of the trilogy, she had an expanding role which had to put her acting skills to test and every subsequent movie just kept rolling until we got her in this one.
@davidfairweather33015 ай бұрын
@@mindmomo yeh she was engaged to Mark burg. Betsy Russel seems like a nice woman in real life, but she isn’t a good actor, so her and the producers are at fault for giving her more screen time

well, first of all, no one _needs_ to die in any of these traps (except ivan from 4)... but to have her trapped in this glass case for all to see, to have her personal dirty laundry aired out in front of everyone feels incredibly cruel, doubled down by the unneeded removal of her shirt and constant down cleavage shots of her. it all just feels icky. also thank you for watching! :)

So in the ending Adam and Zepp were skeletons. And in Saw 2 they were still corpses. Knowing that saw 3 and 4 take place 6 months after saw 2. And saw 5 takes place exactly after 4. Same happens with 6 after 5 and 3D after 6. So doesnt that mean that in less than a year Adam and Zepp went to corpses to dirty skeletons? (Or maybe i just i that is seeing them as skeletons and they are in reality still corpses, in that case sorry)

I am sometimes downvoted on the subreddit for saying that 3D/7 is considerably worse than Jigsaw and Spiral. It doesn't *have* to be - but it is. The cruel misogyny, the pointless remnants of a bigger story, and the awful acting from Gibson and Jill Tuck especially are just too hard to look past. I skip it on rewatches at least half the time. Curious to see if you agree when you put out the Jigsaw video. I know some people claim it's the worst in the series or an embarrassment, but I think that if you can suspend disbelief, it's one of the most entertaining standalone films.

So let me get this straight, Saw 3D is "sexist and misogynist" simply due to the fact that some women die gruesome deaths on a RATED R SAW MOVIE??? where most of the "victims" in previous films have been men?? are you serious dude? So no women should ever die in a saw horror movie?? I was just starting to like this channel but I guess you're one of those PC warriors. Honestly the Saw franchise is literally a Rated R horror franchise what do you expect??? They didnt show any crazy amounts of nudity or un-needed s3x scenes.
@ripdalt3 ай бұрын
it's moreso the overall feel and reactions to the deaths, especially bobby's. if pointing out how nasty this film is towards women makes me a "pc warrior", and therefore ruins your enjoyment of the videos, sorry you went outside of your echo chamber. have a good one! :)

I’m definitely one of those weirdos that enjoys the circularity of Dr. Gordon being back. I can acknowledge it’s a lame twist that anyone could see coming, but I was so over the excessive gore and watching Hoffman get away with stuff that when the pig mask revealed Lawrence, I was all glee. Maybe it’s just my editor side, but I appreciated that he was a set-up that paid off and it made sense for him to be a part of the scheme, given all of the surgical needs for so many traps. However, I wholeheartedly agree with your criticisms of this movie. It leans so hard into the gore, which is always the worst part of the series for me, while simultaneously making it cartoonish. While I enjoyed the psychological element of “you’ve profited off Jigsaw’s games and the suffering of others, time to prove your worthiness,” I didn’t find the main character likeable or worth rooting for-I just listened to your whole video and I can’t even remember his name. The only one I cared about was his wife, and that was mostly because her death is one of my worst fears. It sucks that this was two movies shoved into one, truncating what could have been a compelling wrap-up to the series into a rushed jumble of happenings. I probably enjoy this one more than most people because the “twist” is something I appreciate, but I will happily join in a discussion about where it failed. Omg, every time I watched this movie, I knew I recognized him but never actually took the time to check the cast list-Chester Bennington being in this film is wild!

it's a good way to tie up the (arguably) biggest loose end in the series with gordon, though i always gave john the benefit of the doubt in thinking he is just naturally gifted at everything lmao. i genuinely do think that combining the two films was the final nail in the coffin for the series as we knew it, and took over a decade to come back from
