I love the SAW franchise. It is so interesting story wise. The edit is so insane. The music is industrial which I love (honestly that Nine Inch Nails crossover with Clouser makes sense) and I’m very board with it. One of my favorites.

I’m so excited to get more saw content from you. I love how you tackle these films and feel like I’m able to share my love for them with someone else. Yes, some of these films aren’t great. But I tend to always find something in them that I love and enjoy and am glad someone else does and doesn’t just tear the later movies in the main timeline to shred. Or at least does in a loving way.

Saw X, even as a biased fan who has loved this franchise since childhood, is honestly one of the most breathtaking Saw movies and horror films of all time. The marketing for the film, the pride the entire crew had in making the movie, it's infectious to feel the adoration as a fan. This film is a labor of love for the fans and the crew that's been so integral to the franchise from its inception. Bringing Tobin and Shawnee back as the backbone of the series and forefront of casting, was one of the best decisions they could've made. What's even more baffling is how this movie has sparked interest in people who've never seen a Saw film. The acting and delivery of Tobin and Shawnee tells us so much about their relationship regardless of whether you've seen the other films or not. And the deleted scene that I am sad they cut, where Amanda describes to Sears their relationship and her own disdain of her father, it layers her character even more. This movie explores the emotional layers of the "cold-hearted murderers" that the other films have established from the eyes of the cop plots. That's what I personally find was the biggest breath of fresh air, there was no cop plot. Cop plots present a good and evil side wherein you kind of have to root for good or evil, but this movie takes you to the root of the human experience. The trap victims, including Cecilia, have their reasons for being involved and doing bad things. John and Amanda are no different from them, they just have a more morally distasteful way of executing it, pun intended. Even with John and Cecilia, there was a lesser of two evils but the evil of Cecilia provides context for what John or other apprentices may look for in test subjects. Of course it's a flawed system to begin with, but what isn't flawed from us humans? Saw X recontextualized the characters so much that it's almost painful to realize where their breaking points began. John having to face the reality of his impending death, Amanda seeing that these games don't always have a rehabilitating outcome, or that survival only gives someone more of a reason to commit vile acts. Carlos was there not only for stakes but to show that John is not completely heartless or insane in who he chooses to take part in his tests. His willingness to cut his own life short for Carlos even if his plan worked out in the end displays a side of John nobody knew existed. The ending of the film wraps up this arc between films so beautifully, with the music providing hope to prospective viewers and, if it were to be the end of it all, sending us off with a thank you for the dedication we've had to them and these films. I also did appreciate that the trap plot didn't really start until 45 mins in with Diego, then we had a breath before the hour mark where the group trap plot started. Every character's trap had a connection (implied or blatantly obvious) to their role in the scheme. Valentina was the phlebotomist, so she had to draw something from her own body, being bone marrow. Albeit one of the most painful experiences and extractions a human can experience, it made perfect sense for her. Mateo was the anesthesiologist, so he was provided no numbing and had to experience all the pain that he faked putting John under. Diego of course being the "renowned doctor" removing the cancer, had to remove pipe bombs. Gabriela I like to think, represented the naivety of the predicament she was involved in. She had no idea what she was doing because she was only in it for her fix, and the radiation machine provides a foil for that ignorance. Most people don't truly understand how dangerous a radiation machine can be, even for x-rays. Gabriela didn't understand the gravity of her situation until it came face to face with her in the form of that machine. Cecilia and Parker of course, were supposed to be the players in the bloodboarding trap. No particular reason but I'd like to postulate that they're drowning in blood money so why not drown them in blood. Each and every one of these traps was a beautiful display of practical craftsmanship and narrative storytelling in its own right. Most of the time the traps are just there to kill someone or up the ante, but here they're truly displayed as a lesson from John where they're intended to win. They cannot hesitate, else they lose. In his eyes, someone who has the will would understand they need to work immediately to survive, but that also comes with the weight of fear and anxiety that everyone represented in their own rights. Hats off to Paulette and Octavio because they acted their asses off as Valentina and Mateo.

You’re so right about Jigsaw being a boring ass movie. It’s boring on all levels: aesthetically too sterile, cinematography, editing, traps, characters, plot, everything. I checked how long there was left twice in this 90min film. I’d rewatch Saw 3D in its “so bad it’s good” insanity a hundred times over Jigsaw.

@@ripdalt Saw 7 is extremely flawed (and lowkey sexist) but man, the traps go SO HARD, and it’s fucking hilarious and campy fun. Hoffminator going all Hitman was ridiculous but his murder spree is sexy ok? Spiral, as much as I really dislike Chris Rock and the execution of it, at least has a gritty aesthetic and some gruesome traps. got to give it credit it for trying something different, even if it fails. For me, Jigsaw is a 3/10 and Spiral is a 4/10. Saw 1 and 6 are 9/10s and all the others are 7/10 (yes, even Saw 3D). I have a ranking based on personal enjoyment but the Saw films in the middle are all pretty close in terms of quality to me with their own strengths and weaknesses.

God I miss when John Amanda and hoffman were jigsaw. The traps were cool some exceptions. Hoffman was an a hole, Amanda was as well, John to but Atleast u could win. And saw x was okay but it was censored compared to what it was. Also it’s another teamwork/ save yourself game. saw just like jigsaw. I believe the next saw should be a game like 3,4,6. Sure it’s not fair to the person because their life is not in their hands. But maybe they have some chance. Two games at once that connect? This movie was good and I’m glad tobin is back he’s old and doesn’t have much time so I hope they see this and do what they can with every previous cast member. They can get. No team work next movie tho. I hope saw x did well but sadly the movie company is ruining the gore aspect of it. Times have changed for movies and it sucks. I saw it at the cinema when it first came out. I’d waited a long time for a non-supernatural, non-slasher horror; Saw (and other films such as Hostel) came along at a time when stories about torture at Abu-Graihb and Guantanamo Bay were regularly in the news, and the film marked a transition into a new form of body horror that was genuinely disturbing and not merely an arrangement of jump-scares.
