Based on the Saw franchise, this custom Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter sends riders through a dark ride section before flying through 3 inversions and over a 100° drop. It's got a cool layout, but is weighed down by some pretty brutal potholes that are only made worse by the over the shoulder restraints. Let's dive into the pro's and con's of Saw: The Ride!

Fun fact, I actually won a Thorpe Park video competition back in circa 2009-2010 when Facebook competitions were popular. I created a SAW style promo teaser and won a load of Lionsgate limited edition stuff - including a rare massive 6' x 4' lenticular 3D poster of John Kramer's face used for the SAW 3D release - most were destroyed after the premieres. Thorpe Park hooked me up with 5 unlimited fast tracks for Fright Nights and SAW the ride was decently smooth back then. Btw, Billy is the puppet on the tricycle, Jigsaw is John (the old guy) and he's the one laying not he floor at 4:55. In the original movie, that's the huge plot twist (spoiler alert). TP perfectly recreated the scene and it's so cool as a SAW franchise fan how well they did the theming here. The loading station feels especially good as it feels very enclosed with so much mechanical stuff everywhere which adds the tension.

I rode this when it first opened, big fan of the movies. I honestly remember the ride themeing more than the coaster itself - which tells you something. They used to have a Saw "haunted house" next to the coaster which was really cool - they replicated sets from the movies and had performers acting as Jigsaws helpers and victims. That was really cool - I don't think it lasted that long though.

Despite its roughness (which I can absolutely understand if that's a deal breaker for some), saw is one of my favourite UK coasters and even though Thorpe Park is my local park, I get a ride on it every single time without fail. The ejector airtime is brutal, and an underrated moment for me is that drop straight after the mid course because you don't expect the trims not to do anything and it catches first-timers off guard every time!

This is exactly what bums me out. As a coaster enthusiast, Saw looks amazing in every aspect. The issue is that I'm extremely short (4'11), so I'm the perfect height for headbanging. 😩 I wanna go on Saw so badly, but I doubt it's worth the headache.

This was my first coaster! I was afraid of roller coasters, so my enthusiast friend and I went to Thorpe Park around 2012, and I asked him to help me get over my fear. Swarm was still the hot new thing, so when the park gates opened and everyone went towards that, my friend took me the other way so we could get on Saw, meaning we could walk straight on and I didn't have to stand around freaking out in the queue. Totally loved it. Even though its an intense ride that pre-life inversion is a great 'My First Inversion' for a newbie and helped me relax before the intense stuff. Don't remember how smooth it was back then but I don't think my head was banging about. A real shame to hear how rough it is now, but it'll always be a special ride to me.

I rode saw the ride on the first day it opened in the first 5 minutes of it having paying park passengers on it, because we rushed there to literally get there first, nobody actually took a look at it or saw it running as we went straight there and straight in so our experience of it was without anyone ever seeing it! We discovered that first drop and rotation in the pitch black as it was like "hang on, where did the rails go?" and whoosh, what the hell! then that vertical climb and hanging from the top for a second before the drop was an "oh sheeeeeeeeet!" moment. It was fortunate for us as we heard it actually broke down within an hour of the first opening! From memory, it was certainly smooth and fast on that first day! We were fortunate that we went there that day as it coincided with a friends birthday and we just happened to decide to go there!

Saw The Ride is a cracking ride. Worst part is the length of the queue but the whole theming is pretty immersive. The ride ‘can’ be a bit rough, center seats both rows are smoother, BUT why would you want to ride a super smooth horror themed coaster?! I appreciate it more for the behind the scenes you’re dis last summer, so much detail you miss when on the ride. If you brace yourself and ride Saw The Ride it’s good, if you don’t, the ride will shake you up, which suits the theming perfectly! The ride merch is EXCELLENT and worth a mention 👍🏻

3:50 shows the main problem. Such a huge gap between the wheel and the track. Somebody caught a photo of the first hill after the banked turn and it explains why you feel like you slam into the track. In fact, at 6:17 you captured it pretty well! The back row is a lot better indeed. Unfortunately, it is SO popular so TP probably doesn’t see a need to change anything.

I have a Saw tattoo of Billy The Puppet in a puzzle piece and the amount of times I've been asked about the ride is insane. The theming is a 10/10 but the rollercoaster itself barely scrapes a 3/10. I do find if you are in a middle seat, it is slightly less rough but I genuinely do not ride it anymore due to the headaches it makes you endure, I guess you could say it adds to the torture theme? Without a doubt the queue and indoor section is the best part of the ride. If you haven't experienced the jumpscare in the queue lucky you!

Tbh, theres only one bad coaster from the 4 you're planning to visit for are actually bad, and that's Hero. Personally I really enjoyed Saw, it has some solid airtime, especially coming off the mid-course. Do I think it's smooth? Eh, fairly, but I wouldn't say it's extremely rough if you brace yourself. My tip for Saw & Colossus, go there first! They're located next to each other which makes it easier. The rides are both at their smoothest earlier in the day. Front row on colossus is where it's at imo, if the front row queue isn't much longer I'd go for it, the ride gets rougher towards the back, so just watch out!

Calling Billy Jigsaw and implying Jigsaw is Adam Stanheight is diabolical but otherwise this is a solid review lol

Yeah, it needs lap bars urgently, same with Colossus. I remember a time my friend (also an enthusiast) was scared to ride, not because of the ride itself but because of the Saw theming

I find it rough and gives me a headache. But other friends say it’s ok. I do like the layout though. I found Hyperion smooth, and the same friends moaned about the rattle. Odd how we experience the same rides differently. I used to like going with people who hadn’t ridden before, as the shotgun in the queue used scare the hell out of newbies.

The ride is rough but I could never hate it. In a way it got me into actually watching the films

The first time I rode Mystery Mine I had my mouth open when I came in to one of the valleys and it hit so hard that my teeth slammed together with a CHOMP noise. I was genuinely worried I broke a (or several) tooth. Brutal. THAT SAID... I really like the ride. I just keep my mouth shut.

Having the ride be rough and brutal is actually pretty on brand to the franchise. 😅

4/10, needs to be more of a soap opera. Seriously, the first seven movies are like a horror movie soap opera. It’s so freaking convoluted, it kinda rules.

Alton Towers is my "home park" and Blackpool PB is my Wife's. So I've only visited Thorpe Park 5 times in my life. 4 of those times they had Saw. 3 of those times it was closed all day -.and the one time is WAS open, it was up and down all day, and so always had a 2hr+ queue - so I've never been able to "play a game" 😅

UK parks have a tendency to theme Gerstlauer coasters to Torture.... **cough** **cough** The Smiler **cough** **cough** On a more serious note... It's really sad to see how Saw has aged :( It used to run smooth like butter and the effects were top notch in opening year

It's such a shame because when it first opened, it was nowhere near as bad as this. The elements on the track come at you so fast, it genuinely is chaotic like you say, but nowadays it's just not enjoyable. Colossus is also quite bad for this if you're anywhere but in the front row, but Saw genuinely battered me around so much, I got off feeling sick and had a headache. I don't know if it's a maintenance thing that they could fix, but refuse to, or if the ride's just past its prime. I rode it last in Nov 2024, and it's the only coaster I've ever said that I wouldn't ride again.

I prefer this ride over the smiler because the forces are much more intense and offers a larger variety of elements. I always get row 4 on smiler, and because I live closer to Thorpe, i have had more comfortable rides on saw
