1:00 fun little fact, John Burton confirmed on opening day that RMC was the first manufacturer he and Thorpe approached. The only reason it wasn't an RMC is because the support structure was "too dense for the plot of land" And as much as I'd have loveeddddd an RMC in this country, MACK were definitely the right choice

@zacg_2 ай бұрын
I hope this inspires other manufacturers to realize that a tight space with frequent turnarounds does not mean you have to just do overbanked turns or low turnarounds. You can use those turnarounds to create negative G forces repeatedly and keep people out of their seats instead of just doing a spaghetti bowl layout.

Mack always has been on that level of brilliance but their rides are THE most expensive in the world hence not that many parks chose them over 1. B & M or Intamin for a hyper coaster 2. Intamin for a multi launch over the ‘striker’ coasters from Mack.
@rfastravers88412 ай бұрын
@@all-caps3927 It's generally B&M that is considered the most expensive. The bigger new rides of Mack are probably closer though. Also their rides only became slowly towards brilliant territory in the last 10 years. I mean they probably have the B&M Silver Star in their own park, because they hadn't had the experience to do it themselves, which they definitely would build themselves now. They are experiencing a similar rise as Vekoma atm.
@all-caps39272 ай бұрын
@@rfastravers8841 yeah B & M are definitely up there in price too, but I think Mack rides are even a level above that, not for the Hypers, but for the spinning coasters and the Stryker coasters. It also didn’t help that Mack has really only been building wildmauses and log flumes (family oriented rides) rather than full on rollercoasters for the thrill market up until recently (relatively compared to other manufacturers). I think in Europa Park they decided to go with a B&M because the project ‘silver star’ was produced in collaboration with Mercedes hence the ‘silver star’ naming convention. Europa Park and Mercedes probably didn’t want to risk a newly produced Mack hyper if they could just buy one from the trusted B & M, however you’re right they now have the capacity to do that. It could be argued that they are similar to Vekoma, but Vekoma’s recent rise is arguably due to them being a subsidiary of S & S - Sansei, and they’re also growing at rapid rates with their arrow dynamic assets at their disposal and their innovation with concepts like the Axis coasters and their modified 4D coasters from Arrow originally
@namevone2 ай бұрын
@@rfastravers8841 Mack is actually a lot more expensive than B&M is. Hyperia cost about the same amount to build as Intimidator at Carowinds, but Intimidator has 1 more train, and is a much longer ride than Hyperia.

Went to England all the way from Italy just to experience Hyperia and I managed to get 5 ride in the day I spent at the park, even one in row ten, right seat. The ride was great, every element delivered, but for some reason the one that surprised me the most was that stalled dive loop. I don't know if it's the profiling or what, but it didn't feel at all like traditional hangtime. Instead of feeling like I was hanging against my restraints it was like floater airtime but upside down, like the only thing holding me to the train was the centrifugal force. Sure all the other elements were great, the first drop is probably my favourite, but I didn't expect to be so blown away by that dive loop which is less talked about compared to the drop and outer bank.
@jasonjennings57832 ай бұрын
That sounds awesome.. it would be a true zero G then. The truest (and best, IMO), zero G elements are designed so you don’t feel anything excepts forward movement - no hang, no centrifugal. The most perfect example I’ve found of such, so far, is on Arie Force One.
@k_nil65402 ай бұрын

I had this exact feeling on Zadra, just amazing, you're upside down but don't feel any forces, it's like time stands still for a moment. So I was a little bit disappointed when I first rode Voltrons stall, because there you have a lot of hangtime. I was disappointed because I expected it to be like on Zadra...but now it grew on me and this hangtime stall is almost as cool as the other one.

I love this ride so much. I travelled from France last month to experience it for the first time, it instantly became my number one ride. Mack Rides has a special place in my enthusiast heart because my passion started with Blue Fire & europapark was my homepark at the time. You need to experience Hyperia to understand how crazy that ride is, every element is perfect. I guess the "splash zone" isn't splashing because of the heat generated by the trim breaks which causes the trims to rust super fast ? I also wish this ride was designed for 3 trains because the line is always super long. The single rider line is super helpful, when I visited the park, the single rider line was 20-40min whereas the classic line is a 70-90min all day long

Great review. Thorpe is my local park and you’re right, Hyperia is such a statement and is world-class. I rode it front and third row (single rider miraculously putting me front row) and both experiences were excellent. Of course front row takes the cake with the drop and outer bank. One other thing I’d say is that Thorpe did so well with the limited space they’ve got. The whole park is on an island with a few rides on reclaimed land. They needed to close Loggers Leap which was a beloved ride for many years and in my opinion the best water ride in the UK. But that’s water under the bridge (ahem). I’m so, so impressed with Hyperia.

10:22 - That hits the nail on the head with Merlin in general. I hope they get out of that mindset some day, it's like the coaster wars era in the USA in the mid 2000s where bigger was better. Yeah it works for marketing, but people want more of a total experience going forward (which is allegedly what is going to be happening) featuring strong theming on and off the ride. This is a fabulous coaster as a ride experience, but as a visitor experience it's a bit meh simply because Merlin frequently want marketing / record breaking headlines and not a total package.

I got 4 rides on Hyperia throughout the day then 10 in a row during ERT. It's an awesome coaster and the best in the UK by far. The elements are unique and pack a punch. I do agree that Hyperia could use one or two more elements. One train is smooth and the other has a pretty bad rattle. I had the rattle train during ERT and had a bad headache by the 4th ride. I pushed through it because Hyperia is that good. I hope that train is fixed during the off season. I hope Mack uses the Hyperia momentum and keeps pumping out awesome coasters.
