Hi Mark. The sharpening of the carbide teeth was very educational. I recommend that you watch this in conjunction with the Andruw's Lumber video of 19Aug24 "Taking the Saw to the Doctor… we still have our fingers" -- 28:51. They call Brett the Saw Doctor for a reason, and this video shows you why. It is truly a masterclass in an almost forgotten craft...

Hi Mark. I have been watching your videos for a couple of years now and you are doing a great job. I appreciate your approach and your good explanations. I did have a couple of questions that your viewers might want to hear an answer for. What is the advantage in the first turn of the log going back to the knees instead of down on the head block? It seems like the head block would be easier. Also what advantage do you gain by using the taper? You often say that "What you gain on one side, you lose on the other side." So why do it? Thanks and keep up the good work!
@markgalicic77885 ай бұрын
thanks John , great idea I will talk about that on a video.

Mark why do you only seem to use the Master Dog when the log is round? I don't think I've seen you use it any other time.
@markgalicic77885 ай бұрын
I don't use it on smaller logs.
@bwillan5 ай бұрын
With a 16' log on the carriage, does your number 3 head block taper give enough lateral movement to make much of a difference to the position of the log? Congrats on video number 600.

A question, band saw blades require lubrication during cutting. Circle mills use no blade lubrication during cutting. Does it have something to due with blade thickness/cooling? My wife and I started watching during the COVID. Our favorite is watching the grain patterns and always enjoy a clear piece. Thanks for your efforts. T&K
@CarrotCaptain4 ай бұрын
Bandsaws use lubricant to prevent buildup of pitch. While it does help cool the blade that is not really the purpose. I don't know tons about circle mills. I know the blades can be overheated if a piece of trash gets stuck between the outfeed conveyor and the blade.
