My dad started out in the 1950's, logging then became a sawyer for a local sawmill. He decided to build his own. So he built a permanent setup.and 2 portable mills. Years moved on and he taught.himself 2 more trades - 1 was a well driller then a backhoe operator. His love was sawmilling, so when one popped up for sale, we drove to Raleigh and helped dismantle his new toy. On weekends, my husband and I both worked at the mill - my cabinet-maker husband operated the "green end" and the edger and I, a corporate secretary, worked the cant hook, turning the logs. Oh but what fun and learning took place!! Kids today are missing those trades!!

Great operation you have there, nice running Detroit burns nice and clean, smooth. The mill works nice, the head saw saws so smooth and does not cut both ways like so many do and that drives me nuts being from lumbering back round. I have sawed on a modern mill. But always wanted one like you have.

My first time here, You Two seem to have the Perfect Operation, Swap up, Everyone doing the same thing and Perfectly too. Hope to catch you here again soon, I am down here in ELDORADO, ARKANSAS and I have Hauled Many Loads of Lumber out of The P E BARNES SAW MILL When it was down in Strong Arkansas. It was A BIGGER OPERATION, BUT NOT MORE EFFICIENT, this brings back great memories. Good People too

This is the best 'dialed in' sawmill I watch on youTube. There are many others on KZbin that need to learn your platform (i.e. height of sawyer's station/platform and the very short distance the set works is back from the first head block) set ups, heights, length of deck covering all the way to the front edge of the husk and note the lumber sawed keeps moving very quickly to the stack by using a quatrer turn off the roller deck, very effienct! Hopefully they'll see your channel and start making major amends in their operations.Well done.

I enjoyed watching your video. What species of wood were you cutting. What is done with the 4x4 piece that is left.? Where are you located, I enjoy your accents. I live in Pickering, Ontario, Canada. No sawmills where I live.
