Hi Ed. Beautiful black oak! I ❤ the knots in the wood. It has a lot of character. Your fellow U--Tube Helmsburg Sawmill does some 20 inch to 28 inch wide black oak. During thier past videos. Beautiful lumber. Compromise: Both parties can agree on certain things. Some people aren't happy. But. They go along w/ the compromise. Well. You had a nice vacation. Looking great. Thanks Ed. Say Hi to Mark. Have a good Wednesday evening. 🥰😊😉👍❤️💜🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Nice to see and hear the operation once again with a flash back of you working without ZZ being there. Boy times have changed. Compromise is a necessary thing in the world and can be associated with acquiescence which can be defined as "the reluctant acceptance of something without protest" or with some protest. As it is often said re-evaluate, adapt, and move on.

Hi Ed. You are a soft soul. Love your words. Once again have you thought of a calander highlighting your words of the day? week? month? I'd buy on for the house and one for my son and daughter. I'd also buy one for my classroom. Maybe the kids would read it while looking at sawmill operations amd/or the lumber yard, forestry operations, etc.. It would also pose an excellent discussion starter. Lord knows we need it. Have a good week.

Maybe it is low grade lumber but I've seen the more popular ballroom dance floors that look like this. They are beautiful all polished up. Grandpa danced on those floors like those back in the day with Grandma and all their friends. He could throw insults but fortunately no rocks. We knew when we began overstaying our welcome and it was time to get back to work.

Just a thought, watching Mark on his channel, gives us a view of what happens as the log is sawn. What his channel doesn’t show, is what happens to the board then. I worked in a saw mill so I know the drill. Perhaps you could consider placing the camera in a position to show what you and ZZ et al, are doing from that point on. Maybe that would give viewers a more completed picture of process. Actually much more is happening there in my experience. I very much enjoy your channel and appreciate what you do. Keep it up!

Identifying wood by smell is an art only gained by experience. For example Mark describes black locust as having a "peppery" smell, but when I cut some for a picture frame it smelled like creosote to me. A natural "treated" wood, I guess, and I know what treated wood smells like since working with just about every noxious kind they make.

Welcome Back Eddie Kotter. I did a Horvath/Horshack joke the other day on Galicic's channel. Grandma was real mad at me that you didn't mention HER, but only some estranged Grandpa Goomer. She bounced one of her pocket rocks off my 'Grandma-Time' helmet saying, "Compromise this, Buck-O"
@anthonyhengst29084 ай бұрын
Grandpa says maybe that's her way to get you to mind your manners a little more 😂, I hope you picked up the rock and gave it back to her.??
@richparks19664 ай бұрын
@@anthonyhengst2908 How is my catching a head rock at speed, going to change Edwardian's manners of not thanking Grandma too? Grandma always gets real mad at me when Grandpa starts spouting-off again, she says, "Next time get that gag tight enough he won't slip it." I can't give the rock back, it's helmet imbedded, Grandma's got an arm too.
@anthonyhengst29084 ай бұрын
@@richparks1966 well if that's how it goes, take away the rocks and give the old lady cotton balls and convince her they are rocks... We took the whips away from Grandpa and gave him rubber bands and lived to tell the tale. Now when he gives the evil eye (and yes he will give the evil eye) we pack up our butts and get 'em the heck out of there!!

Is that black oak thick enough to be strong enough for a decking surface? I would think it needs to be a minimum of 1 1/2” thick to get the job done. Preferably 2”.

Eleven thirty at night that’s nice grain in that black oak , having supper after a fifteen hour day working on a forward reverse gear box on a mortise machine made about the First World War grease was solid dug it out and a gallon of break cleaner then a hot water washer , find the timing marks and rebuild it trip back to the workshop to make a shear bolt couple of gallons of grease and it was back working , they do have a new one it’s a heap of junk collum isn’t square to the table retracted it’s sixteenth of an inch off and fully extend it’s five sixteenth out of line it’s going away to be remachined , word of the day is compromise I don’t compromise my reputation by doing second class work , anyway have a nice day

Hard to tell with how aged that log is, but I don’t believe that it’s a black oak. Red/Scarlet Oak or a very,very clean Pin Oak perhaps. Black Oak has yellow inner bark and is sometimes called Yellow Oak for that reason.
