Good Morning Sandy- I have a HM130 Max XL on a trailer- one upgrade I did with mine was add a hour meter that runs off the spark plug wire. The supplied Hr meter while on a trailer it records all vibration so when driving it around it is recording and add ghost hours. If you are diligent with oil changes by hrs then it will be inaccurate. I also added a stronger gas shock to the lap siding (1250Nm) attachment to raise and lower the head more easily with the head being heavier. So far it has been doing us well and been fun to learn to turn logs to useful lumber while clearing a 2 acre lot.

Sandy, two things about the blade guard for the adjustable blade guide that you will figure out over time. It is just one more thing to have to take off when changing blades and, more importantly, whenever a blade breaks or comes off it will bend the guard as it a very light gauge metal---easy to bend back into shape but just a pain to have to do it. I took mine off and haven't used it since.

Great video.. I have an older (2015) Norwood HD36 and really like it.. Couple of things I think are nicer on your new new mill vs my Norwood. Width of Cut.. Norwood is limited to 28" unless I remove a blade guide.. Your rail system for the adjustable blade guide is superior (IMO), Ability to change oil without making a mess. Again.. Thanks for posting these great Videos .. Keep on sawing..

Excellent comparison. You may want to put some kind of screen material over the open vent tube on your new lubrication system. pantyhose material and a rubber band work well. Otherwise sawdust will work into your liquid supply thru that opening and eventually will affect your valve, usually stuck open.

I agree. Right away I just used what was lying around...a small(orange) wire connector fit right on the end of the tube and just drilled 1/16" horizontal holes in it for venting. It has never come off.

Gordon here , Thank you for setting me straight on the difference between the 2 mills . I hope you know I was kidding you about the sale of your old mill. But being in CANADA not else where it is nice to comment on thing like you can go Princess Auto and pickup the parts to make a trailer for about $500 .00 can. You can DIY your own trailer with a little thinking out of the box. So I also have a mill but it is not made else where it also made in CANADA thank GOD .It is a Norwoods 2 k LM but it does the job I want it do also it is MINE not the finance company or bank. I own it with a little help with the other half (boss) lol but it is paid in full. So have a wonderful day and keep up the sawing here in CANADA LOL.

Nice job on the Video! On the lubrication tank, the thing you called a vent is actually a level indicator for the tank. While it could act as a vent if air gets in the tube, its primary purpose is to allow you to monitor the level in the tank without taking the lid off.

Good point there Earl. I’m interested to get the auto lube going as that will be a first for me as well
@CedarTrailsLiving2 жыл бұрын
Wanted to give a nod to Woodland Mills. I believe the tube is specifically for sighting. The cap on mine doesn't fit so tight that it wouldn't let air in so that would have been fine for venting. I haven't needed to adjust the auto lube at least not the valve for the handle. I make the adjustment at the tank valve but I will say I don't care for the petcock style. Using certain soaps in the water can wreak havoc on the brass and mine always seem to get stuck. I have to keep a pair of pliers handy. I think I would prefer a regular stainless ball valve.
@bryansaunter41242 жыл бұрын
I have 130max 2021. The auto lube when it works is great. I found mine plugs, soap bubbles seem to plug. I have taken it off clean empty tank an rinse, the problem keeps returning. I use 1 tsp of dawn dish soap.
@earlholmes97402 жыл бұрын
I usually have make sure no air bubbles are in the line by manually holding open auto lube valve. But the throttle play has to be exact or no flow. I have tinkered a little bit with throttle and the adjustable spring on the auto lube but not perfected yet.

The vent for the lubrication tank also tells you how full / empty your water tank is... Also, I finally got my 130Max set up and man the screws just like to rattle out, the blade guard set bolt worked itself lose and destroyed a blade, and the bottom clast for the right side door just fell off. Hello Sandy, we have a 2021 130 max on a trailer. It also has an engine hour meter. However I want to warn you that if you take it for a drive, the hours will go up on it as it works on vibration. (so not good if you do plan on moving it). So to fix that we installed a different engine hour meter that actually reads engine compression. I also find the new adjustable blade guide kind of sticks and doesn't move easily after a bit. I think I prefer the old method. Your new log stops don't have any cut marks in them yet. lol. Need more time. I found the stop to protect your blade from the log stop kept on falling with the vibration and didn't work. (now we have cut log stops). Perhaps you have advice on that? The only thing I see different from our 2021 and your 2022 right now is the new sticker on back that says 20-25 lbs. The tensioning in the book we received said to tension it until the bearing was flush, but that wore out a set of belts after two hours of use. So now they have added the torque recommendation. (and sticker - which I might ask them for one). No other issues with ours. Thanks for the comparison video, I really enjoyed it!
@sawingwithsandy2 жыл бұрын
Hi EA! Glad you liked the video and thanks for the idea about the hour meter. I’m fortunate in that no marks yet on the saw stop (hopefully I didn’t just jinx myself). I’ve heard others have put loctite on the small threaded bolt which Honda the angled log stop piece to keep it from vibrating out. Good to hear you’ve had such good luck with your mill and how similar it is to mine. Im hoping for the same . Thanks again for watching

Your new HM130MAX ( if w/o trailer) as compared to your old mill costs $4,999.00, considerably more but has a 7" greater cut, which is huge as you stated. When did Woodland Mills make a 30" mill?. That lube vent will collect sawdust andget clogged, recommend adding an aquarium air bubble stone, as a lube tank aìr vent filter 😀 👌

Good idea!
@wallacefrey62472 жыл бұрын
You may want to consider putting a U-shaped piece of tubing in the top of the vent tube so it faces down to prevent sawdust from getting down into the tube. I have seen this brought up in a few other videos. (edit.... maybe even a cheap little plastic in-line fuel filter, or an airstone for a fish tank would work as well.)

@@wallacefrey6247 not necessary. That medium hard plastic bung doesn't seal. Even if it did, you could cut for a 100hrs and not have to burp it. You don't want it streaming out like a faucet, drip drip drip...

On the 2022 and newer models, using a torque wrench is not recommended for proper blade tensioning, the company actually recommends not using a torque wrench for blade tensioning, what are your thoughts on this subject ? 🤔
@sawingwithsandy Жыл бұрын
I'd agree that whatever method they suggest would be a good method to use. I"m used to the torque wrench from my 2017 HM130 and since it seems to work well on my sawmill that's what I use

@@sawingwithsandy They cut the round bits off ,, in Aussie we call them flitches ,,, then start cutting their boards ,,they dont even cut their cants to width , eg, 10, 8, 6, inch ,,, just start chopping off the top and nearly always finish up with a thin board as off-cut ,,, just a waste of a cut

I may not be the only one to say..... you do not have the safety angle metal that keeps you from hitting your log stop in your older model. At the same time I understand that it can also be a pain in the behind with certain logs and mine vibrates loose.
@sawingwithsandy2 жыл бұрын
You’re right about that. It rattled out at some point and I haven’t got it back in yet
@Cacheola2 жыл бұрын
I'm not a fan of the log clamps, they suck!!! I've got my mill sitting on a concrete slab because it's easier to roll BIG logs onto. This makes the clamps fiddly b/c they're constantly bottoming out on the concrete and you're forever trying to find the sweet spot. Regardless, when you've got a log with some weight, they DO NOT easily release from locking on the slide and you need to hit them with something or pry your log or both... only to have it release and get stopped up on one of the two spring pins holding the contraption together - grind these flush. Add to this, the fact the clamps are not symmetrical... you may need it swinging to the left OR to the right... to the left, you risk clipping the offset handle :-|. That said, it's really my only beef
@sawingwithsandy2 жыл бұрын
Yeah can imagine over the years some small things you mentioned can be a bit of a pain

@@sawingwithsandy I'm hoping you sell your old mill and drop a honda powered LM30, woodmizer, or perhaps vallee in for comparison. You've done so well with your channel, any one of these suppliers would be fools not to cut you a deal. This WM was a great price and hard to beat cut width. It does "twist/shake/wobble??" more than I'd like and would be interested to know if the other brands control this better - yes I have all the guides, bushings, bolts all snug. One of the things that attracted me to WM was the skookum looking frame design over the anemic looking woodmizer's. but... is this something inherent with these smaller mills???
