Looks like I had the down angle in the wrong position in the one clip in this video. Double check your owner's manual to make sure you get the settings correct.

any advice on quickly filing down the depth guides?

I use a 4.5inch angle grinder and just give it a quick touch with the grinder when its needed. I use o e of those metal depth gauges to check when the depth guides need to be ground down.

I have a husky 440, with sp33g chain, what's the cross reference to the Oregon tool?
@sawingwithsandy

What do you mean by cross reference? Like what angles you set the grinder to?

@@sawingwithsandy The "destruction" manuals seem to get wonky on this point. Just keep in mind that when using the 10 degree drop, the chisel's corner is the high end when the grind is finsihed.

cutter length does not matter. sharp or not does. what absolutely makes a difference is if your raker is cut within spec of the specific cutter.

your down angle is rotated in the wrong direction

I’ll have to look into the settings to double check

@@sawingwithsandy The down angle should bring the point of the tooth downward, you will still end up with sharp teeth but rotating in the wrong direction will cause your pitch angle to be greater than intended. If you have any tips on how to avoid burrs I'd be super interested!

Good video I'm ordering the same grinder, but the teeth do not have to be the same size, it doesn't matter. You need the depth gauges to be the same size. Watch Buckin Billies video on it it's very educational Not trolling just spreading knowledge ✌️

Thanks for checking out the video. I normally hand file with the depth gauges and use a depth gauge tool to check for how much to file each down by. Is that what you’re talking about? Happy cutting

@@sawingwithsandy Yes exactly and the size of each cutter there is a lot of miss info on them I have heard several people say all the teeth have to be the same size in order to cut straight and it's not true it's the depth gauges that need to be all the same depth to cut straight. On the grinder you have you can do the depth gauges too there's a video on it from Oregon it's pretty cool and much much faster

Thanks I appreciate that. I’ll check out how to do that depth gauge as that can be time consuming by hand.

If one uses non-progressive depth gauge tool (oregon, stihl) then the teeth have to be the same size on both sides. If one uses progressive depth gauge tool (husqvarna) then it doesn't matter, you can have every teeth completely different and it still cuts straight and faster compared to non-progressive gauge. Husqvarna's depth gauge tool sets every depth gauge by the teeth infront of it while the oregon one sits on multiple teeth. I laugh at people that measure the teeth with caliper and waste hours on sharpening a chain, while all they need is progressive depth gauge tool. But i can't blame them because there's so many idiots telling em to count the strokes and to measure the teeth...

There is a adjustment for gullet depth

Sawing with Sandy one on the back side. The little one to the right of the head tilt, it adjusts so the grinding wheel can only come down as far as you want it to

Oh ok I gotcha, I do often overlook that one. Appreciate you reminding me of it. My memory is good but short haha

I was wondering about that myself because you don't want to cut into the chain itself. Thanks for insight Edgar!
