The sawmill is back in action after we make a few repairs. We get started on cutting siding for our shop end walls and button up the sawmill shed with additional bracing and log oil. Just because we are working hard doesn't mean we don't have time to cook up tasty meals, blueberry brioche for brunch and caribou fried steak for dinner.
We appreciate you tagging along for our Alaskan adventure 😀
Thank you for watching and supporting our channel! 💙

You both have great cameraman be quiet skills. !! When I know Eric was behind the camera in the bread section I was amazed at the composure to stay silent. I’m so glad that he did as that is what makes part of watching so awesome. We get to comment in our head but not be interrupted by either of you as the other does the tasks. I’m sure you’ve both perfected that over time with your channel and other times the interaction is nice too. You both seem to know when to interact and when to stay silent. Letting the natural sounds of the tasks come through. Thanks so much for posting what you do.

If you go to the Forestry Forum, there is a whole section on what people use to keep the pitch down on the blade of the sawmill. Most do a combination of water, Dawn, and diesel fuel. Good luck!

The only things I thought of that could have been factors were is the saw still perfectly level? Because that would affect the angle at which the blade hits the wood. You put it on those big beams you cut and the wood could have been from different trees with different moisture content and the amount of solar access or angle of wind hitting them could cause differential drying which could put it out if level. Freezing the water in the wood would make them swell, which could also affect the level. The other one was the speed of the blade. I have a cheap pole chain saw from Harbor Freight and there's a little sponge in the oil reservoir that *theoretically* keeps the oil from leaking out. It can move out of place easily and then the oil drains out all over everything. Yeah, sucky mess. My neighbor has one of those cut little Ryobi ones made for pruning branches and while I am completely in love with how light it is, it doesn't have a built in oil delivery system. You have a squirt bottle you're supposed to use as needed. Whatever that means. That experience made me quit hating on the HF saw though, lol.

To help with Sap build up on the Blade use water and some dawn dish washing liquid. Or you can also use Diesel fuel in a spray bottle and periodically spray the blade with diesel fuel. The Many different kinds of Pine & Spruce are full of rosin sap and it will build up quickly on the saw mill blade and also on your chainsaw bar, So some diesel fuel sprayed periodically with a pump spray bottle will help in keeping it removed.

Eric and Arielle to avoid as much of that sappy wood, Ask the people you buy the logs from to deliver you logs cut in the fall or winter of the year they have less sap. Logs cut in the warmer months will be much more full of Sap.

I love Cabot's stain. It is what our decorating business sold. It is a good outdoor stain. I love that Eric seems to be able to fix any machine. Arielle, your baking "problems" are probably caused by a combination of humidity, cold temperatures, and a different elevation. I live a mile up, in a valley no less, and to cook pasta, I have to add half again as much time for it to be cooked, even al dente. I have a friend who moved barely a mile but several hundred feet down in elevation and proximity to the valley vs. mountain. She has had to redo all her cooking times. Something to keep in mind.

I was going to throw away a cake that didn't raise, he came along and said no don't throw it out. He sat there grinning the whole time he was eating. Nice to have someone to cherish your mistakes. Every time you showed the mill shed over the winter, I looked for those end braces. Now I can relax 😌 It’s the best-looking structure you’ve ever built! I bet you’ll eventually side it, maybe with sliding doors on the front & back? The Q-hut is by far the most substantial, but is basically a kit. The mill shed is all you, from design to finish! 🙌👏👏 Now, I can concern myself with the shop wiring issues, after reading the electricians’ comments in your previous video. Guys, sawmill trick if you are sawing a lot of pine or spruce. Get yourself a small spray bottle and fill it with diesel fuel. Spray it on the blade after each log. This will help stop the build-up of sap and residue on the blade and keeps it cutting perfectly. The build up of this residue on the blade makes it sticky and is most probably the reason its jumping the guide roller. Also works on your chainsaw blade.

When you put the snow machine on the pallet my mine went straight to hey they going to store them on top the equipment room in the new building. Have yall tried that?? The bare wood on mill house you can spray it with diesel from a garden sprayer. The over spray want hurt the metal roof or the mill. They make a meat tenderizer attachment for your grinder it tenderizes and thins it out

When you get into a log or tree with a lot of pitch, add Pinesol to your lubricant tank, it helps a ton to keep the blade clean

I’m guessing you may not even see this comment, and, in a way that would be good, b/c it means you have truly taken a break. Anyway, in case you do read the comments, I just want to tell you how appreciated you are. I hope that after you do all the family things, (that truly are the priority) I’d love it if you would do another devotional vlog. It’s been a while and you do such a lovely job of sharing The Lord’s heart for us. Enjoy your milestones with your family, and we’ll be here when you return (unless the Lord returns, first)!

Well done Eric, you fixed the saw mill, and the chain saw. Your wood will last longer with some sort of treatment on it. Especially in your climate. You might have to repeat in five years. I bet that timber your cutting smells lovely. Well done guys I enjoyed that vlog. 👍❤️👍❤️👍❤️👍❤️👍❤️👍❤️👍❤️👍❤️👍❤️👍❤️👍❤️👍❤️👍
