We take the opportunity to build one more project in the early winter season, a sawmill shed. Built with freshly milled lumber from the sawmill of course. With the posts fastened and aligned, we place and connect the beams with ties. Next up is rafters and roofing.

Nothing more rewarding than sawing your own logs for your projects. And keep those used blades handy and be sure to give them a good wipe with some WD-40 lots of life left in those. Put the sharpener and setter on the Christmas wish list. You guy rock, and let’s hear a big Whoot Whoot for the tractor. Looking forward to the next video.

Used motor oil on a rag to wipe the blades down. A couple felt wipes rubbing the blade with a drip of diesel mounted on the mill will prevent (minimize) the sap buildup on the blades. Woodmizer has a franchise in Anchorage. They may offer sharpening. Much cheaper than buying the equipment given the number of bands they are likely to use.

To save your back mount a 2000lb electric winch above the log deck with about 8' of chain on it. Wrap it twice around the log and it won't slip or put marks in a finished side. Worked a treat on the 120+ year old circular sawmill I had a chance to run. Also a leaf blower is your best friend after milling for cleanup before everything freezes. 👍

I love watching you work together. You have matured and developed your teamwork and you can accomplish so much. Especially with the great choice of equipment - and the Branson especially! Your capacity for projects seems limitless and your skills have grown exponentially. The sawmill set up is the best I have seen on KZbin - the concrete base with footers and the home-milled timber superstructure is fantastic. Well done. And - you work methodically and tidily and with the minimum of mistakes! Well done.

Eric those strong ties that you used for your post are definitely really nice to use!!! I used to have a roofing and deck business and put up quite a few decks and would use the same exact ones that you used!!! Most my customers liked using the 1/2” threw bolts instead of just using the screw holes!!! Of course some wanted both and some didn’t care but I’d say at least half wanted the three bolts!!! They help keep the water off of the posts and will help them last a little longer!!! Glad to see you using them!!!

quick tip. If you cut your logs in mid spring when it warms up you can debark your logs fairly easy for most species. Also a debarked log will help your blades last longer and will help keep bugs out while they cure.

As I watched the start of today's video it hit me you two have made a diary of your life, from beginning. It would be awesome to have these to watch again and again and see everything you've accomplished and about a life you've shared together. Fabulous 👏👏👏🤩

I would absolutely bolt those posts into the brackets, the cost and time is minimal and it is a vastly stronger connection for your building.
