@@CountryHomestead1 just found your channel from the woodland mill group. Enjoying so far! Question-I’ve got a mill shed I need to build too. Was planning to use cede for posts but don’t have any at moment. I do have a lot of SYP. So can you talk me into using them? Think torching and oil/diesel/tar treatment provides just as good rot resistance? Thanks!!
@CountryHomestead1
@CountryHomestead1 2 жыл бұрын
@@Vincentfamfarm I hope they do last, I just had the SYP and I figured if I start to have a problem later with them rotten I will drive spikes in them and just pour it concrete around them, but I did burn, oil/diesel, and I put tar on the places that made ground contact, I will keep everyone posted and up to date as I find out how it goes, thank you for checking out our channel, we have started the front porch of our house that we will start posting after our next shed video gets posted

How long did you let your post settle before framing it up?
@CountryHomestead1
@CountryHomestead1 2 ай бұрын
We dug the holes down to red clay bottom, 3-4 feet each one and packed the post good and started building, been over a year and still just as straight as when we built it. We appreciate you watching our videos and commenting, we hope you are doing well.

Why didn't you tar the bottom of your posts? And is the plastic cover over tar a bag or just wrapping?
@CountryHomestead1
@CountryHomestead1 Жыл бұрын
We burned them then coated them with oil and diesel then we put tar on the parts that went in the ground, we just wrapped the plastic bags on the tar to keep it from coming off when we tamped the ground around the post. Now we didn’t tar the bottom of the post because everything I read they said to leave that free so water would exit the wood grains
