SawStop JobSite Saw Pro - First Look

I recently purchased a SawStop JobSite Saw Pro and wanted to take some time to review the features of the saw for those who might be considering a similar purpose.
For specific features and videos around the safety aspects of the SawStop, I recommend going to the company website, sawstop.com. They have a ton on information on the topic to help you understand those features to help you make a decision.
I neglected to cover the miter gauge in the video. As other have said, I wasn't to impressed as there was some 'slop' when inserted into the miter track. I'm not sure if there is a good way to tighten it up but if you have a suggestion, please leave it in the comments. I have an Incra miter gauge and will be using that for miter cuts.

For sure! Changing blades is a pain but it does make a difference .... you'll love the saw! Can't beat the safety and if you're concerned about dust, it does a great job as well. If you didn't watch the entire video, I go thru a dust collection setup (not my idea) that captures dust at the back of the saw as well as from the blade guard and it really makes a difference .... In the past, with my old saw, I would always move the saw outside .... with this setup I no longer have to. Thanks for the comment and good luck with the saw!

@@DIYwithDennis I thought I'd block the dust port on the blade guard and draw it all out the back. Lot's of trial and error with dust collection.

@@cerberus2881 I tried your approach this evening and it works great! Ran through some 5/4 cedar and a douglas fir 2x4 and hardly any dust on the table. Tried the same with only the splitter with similar results. Actually, almost not discernible difference. Has to do with the way the underside is designed. So you should be good. Enjoy the saw!

Ive watched a ton of videos and no one has mentioned the lack of the fence guide having a table height support when extended out. The Dewalt fence had a mechanism that flipped over so your wood couldnt sink or tip into the open area when ripping sheet stock. Its def something that could make this better and more error free.

Thank you for the review! I’m considering buying one and reviews on it are hard to find. Can you tell me the folded dimensions? I have a Bosch 4100 that fits under my workbench when folded, I'm wondering if the sawstop will take up more space.

HI Greg, glad the video helped. My previous saw was a Bosch 4100 as well. If i fold the sawstop up and lay it down it's about 26" from the ground to the top of the table (not including blade guard), about 39" long not including the handles which sticks out about another 6", and it's about 28-1/2" wide. I recently bought the Job Site Pro. I assembled it and adjusted the fence for parallel.. somewhat convoluted instructions and mechanism, got it done. What is not acceptable is sliding the fence... mine wobbles and catches. Additionally when I set the correct distance by the scale and then close the locking latch, the fence jumps , usually to the left by as much as a 1/4 inch. I have tried to correct this with no luck. I notice when you close your latch it appears not to jump. Was this condition a problem for you and what did you do to correct it? I returned my first Saw Stop Job Site Pro saw I bought 4 months ago because of defects. This is a replacement. My skill level.. 20 years as a professional furniture maker, 50 years making stringed musical instruments. My 12" sliding table, 3hp , 3 belt, 220 saw is in storage while I am in process of building a new shop. I bought the SSJSP as a small saw in the interim to use in my available space.

Hi Jeff! I'm having the same issue. I seem to feel that the condition didn't always exist but honestly can't be sure. I have tried a lot of adjustments and i just don't see anyway to tighten up the fence to reduce the wobble unless you tighten the allen screw that adjusts the lock lever, but then the lever becomes to hard to lock down, so that doesn't work. As you know, the movement in the fence is due to the fence squaring itself to the rail. So if I use the measuring scale to set the fence and lock it down, while I may see the fence move to square itself to the rail, the actual distance from fence to blade is right on target. So no issues there. Where I do experience the issue is when I try to align the fence to the blade without using the measuring scale. I may be using a measuring gauge to zero in on a very precise distance from fence to blade. When I go to lock down the fence it moves and throws off the measurement. So my workaround is to move the fence from the back of the fence, closest to me as the operator and where the fence lock is located, while putting a little pressure to pull the fence towards me and that does a good job of reducing movement on those precise cuts. It also reduces the chatter you're experiencing when sliding the fence across the table. I've also been in touch with SawStop to see if they can shed any light on tightening up the fence and they could not. In fact, when the support person told me what he did as a workaround, it was exactly what I've been doing. So if there was a workaround, he most certainly would know it. Give a try to what I do to mitigate the problem and see if that works for you as well and let me know how you do. Hope that helps to some degree Regards, Dennis

Curious what your experience is after using the saw over the past year? Do you feel it's underpowered, any issues with cutting hardwoods, etc.

Hi, I've been pretty satisfied so far - I've cut many different woods (plywood, pine, cedar, poplar, hard maple, oak, construction lumber, PVC) and no complaints. I've cut 3-1/2" cedar (see my planter video) and at the time I thought that was a little slow but I was using a 60 tooth blade. Subsequently i moved to a 50 tooth combination blade and cut 4x4 douglas fir and thought that it cut faster without giving up too much quality. I've also ripped 2" hard maple (kitchen prep table video) and no issues there. My biggest issue is with the fence and the fact that you have to apply some pressure at the base of the fence in order for it not to move when locking the fence down. See the comment down below from Jeff Hildreth and my response for more on that and how I get around it. Hope that. helps, let me know if you need more - Dennis

Hi Martin, Thanks! I did not, however, I was using a 60 tooth blade at the time of the video and that slowed things down a bit. I've since used a Diablo 50 tooth combination blade (www.diablotools.com/products/D1050X) on 4x4 Douglas Fir and I felt like that cut faster and the quality was pretty close if not the same as the 60 tooth, at least to me. I also tried a Diablo 24 tooth rip blade and that cut faster as well but the finish was rough. Hope that Helps! Dennis

Or were you referring to a video specifically showing the dust collection?
